[Linux] Dwarf Therapist 25.0 | 0.40.10 | amd64 deb

Thank you for providing this.

I ran into some trouble running it; I'd be grateful for any help:

Code: [Select]
/usr/bin/DwarfTherapist: error while loading shared libraries: libQt5Qml.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

My distro is Crunchbang 11, based on Debian 7. As far as I understand it, Qt5 isn't supported. I tried following the instructions to build from source and "qmake" gave me this:

Code: [Select]
Project MESSAGE: Release Mode
Project MESSAGE: Setting up for Linux
Project MESSAGE: Warning: unknown QT: concurrent
Project MESSAGE: Warning: unknown QT: widgets

After that I ran "make -j$(nproc)" anyway to see what would happen. Result was a lot of output that looked promising but ended with:

Code: [Select]
make: *** [bin/release/dfinstancelinux.o] Error 1
make: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....

Are there any relatively easy ways to fix this (that is, without installing a different distro or risking the operation of my current system)?

Thanks,
James

So...either it doesn't work or it might sort of work...

izraq:  What kind of hardware are you on, specifically, and do you have any tips on how to get it running?  I am open to the possibility of blood sacrifices to Armok.

DF Announcements / Getting DF to work in Linux?
« on: July 04, 2010, 07:12:38 pm »
I'm stuck on my outdated ibook G4 for at least a couple months until I can save the money to fix my PC.  I decided to try out Linux as I can't afford upgrading MacOS.  I have Xubuntu running fine now...it was easier than installing Windows XP, though I still need to get a few non-essentials working.

Which leads to my question: can DF run in Linux on powerpc hardware?  And if so, how?  I've tinkered around with Linux many years ago, but I'm essentially a newbie.  I've downloaded the linux 31.08, but clearly there is more to it than just double-clicking.

OS X 10.4 or 10.5, I believe.

Damn, I was afraid of that.  Thanks for the response.

May I humbly suggest to Toady that info to that effect on the download page or in the readme is appropriate?

On a more useful note, I'm playing with a PPC Mac and my colors are normal.

I'm on a PPC Mac (iBook G4, 10.3.9) and I can't get 31.08 to run.  What am I missing?

I have an iBook G4 running MacOS X 10.3.9.  I am unable to run the Mac/SDL 31.06.  Dwarfort.exe doesn't do anything, neither does anything else.  Do you no longer support PowerPC macs, or am I missing something?

I believe that it's actually in the preserve of the artist?

True enough, I suppose.  Though I'm glad I brought it up; I'd never heard of Cloud Gate.  It's quite extraordinary.

One could argue, however, that it's a sculpture that takes on the aforementioned attribute of a statue whenever it is being viewed.

I threw in some basic art images associated to statues and figurines.

Extremely minor quibble, but probably extremely easy to fix as well:

Use of the word "statue" implies person(s), or creature(s).  Since they can now be of inanimate objects, it would be more accurate to call them "sculpture" instead.

Wow.  That sounds like a good way to make a tough game.  Good work.

DF Modding / Re: Slow learner tag works on dwarves

So I finally had time to play for long enough to get a fey mood.  My proficient armorsmith became a master upon completion of the artifact.

I was hoping this would happen.  It's a nice big jump, particularly for a profession like that one, but still requires a fair bit of work to get to legendary.

In addition to the slow learning, I added [SPEED:1100] to the dwarven entry in creature_standard.txt to slow things down a bit further.  In general, I'm happy with how things are going.  The first year was as challenging as I've seen since the first time I played the 2-d version.  I had to prioritize my dwarves' actions much more than I usually do, and when the first caravan arrived I had to choose carefully which items I needed more (I'm used to just buying them out).

The real test will be combat; I'll post my findings once the goblins pick a fight.

DF Modding / Slow learner tag works on dwarves

I couldn't find any evidence that anyone had tried this, so here you go:

In a new and unmodded world (version 40d) I embarked with 7 peasants to a random hillside location and assigned three of them to dig different tunnels (to my knowledge rock type doesn't affect the experience gain from mining, but I figured it was an easy way to be sure).

All three gained Novice Miner after digging out 50 tiles of rock each.

I reverted to a backup copy of the world, and added the [SLOW_LEARNER] tag to the dwarven entry in creature_standard.txt (I don't know if it matters, but I added it directly below the [INTELLIGENT] tag).

I embarked to the same location with 7 new peasants, and assigned them to dig straight tunnels in the same places as before.  This time they couldn't finish before taking a booze break; I made sure they returned to the same tunnels they started.

Each gained Novice Miner after 84 tiles of digging.

50*1.67 = 83.50

I didn't have time to test this further, so I suppose it's possible that there is a sliding scale or something.  I hope so, as a 67% increase in experience required to gain a skill level will still create invincible champions far too quickly.  Still, assuming all jobs are equally affected, then those of us who feel that it is too easy to create an ultra-powerful military will be able to lessen the problem somewhat.

I don't have time to play much right now, so I'd like to hear from anyone who tries this out whether strange moods will no longer give enough experience to create legendary dwarves.

Also, I'd love it if someone managed to hack this to create a *3 or *4 or *5 multiplier, but I'm afraid that goes far beyond my skills.

Are there any utilities/cheats that will make a creature of my choice pregnant?

I have a tamed female cave crocodile, but there's no male on the map.  I'd really like to breed them for my moat.

Alternatively, is it possible to mod the creature raws to increase the number of cave crocodiles that appear in an underground lake?  I've never seen more than one.

You said you took children out of the game.  I vaguely recall a thread where someone determined that setting either of those numbers to zero caused an immigration bug.  Try setting the entry in the init to [BABY_CHILD_CAP:1:1].

DF Bug Reports / Re: WIND-- ER, water does NOT WORK THAT WAY!

In real life, a glass/plastic/whatever mason jar filled with water, with a base with a single hole in it screwed onto it, turned over so that the base is on the bottom, does not overflow - the water doesn't flow over the sides of the base, and more or less only fills the base up to the top of the hole, if that.

And then there's the odder example of a drinking straw that you fill with water, block one end, and hold it up with the open end down without any water getting out.

Both of those examples rely on air pressure to function, and the latter also requires surface tension (which is only relevant in a very narrow tube--like a straw).

DF Bug Reports / [38c] Major graphical glitch
« on: March 01, 2008, 12:13:00 am »
I recently upgraded from Windows 2k to XP Home w/ SP2.  When I play DF I now get this type of view, which changes at a rate that appears to be my g_fps setting (10).

In most frames the streaks originate from the upper left corner of the game canvas, as below:

http://img213.imageshack.us/my.php?image=glitch1re7.png

Every several frames or so there are starbursts like this:

http://img404.imageshack.us/my.php?image=glitch2tb0.png

The pictures shown here are from a save I imported from the previous OS, and 33g--however, these glitches also occur during the intro animation as well as the embarkation screen on a newly created world, so it seems safe to assume they aren't caused by a corrupted save file.

The game appears to run fine and at the speed I am used to, but it's unplayable as far as my eyes are concerned.

Computer specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ on an Asus A7V8X-X mainboard
ATI Radeon 9800 PRO (128 MB)
1 GB RAM
Samsung Syncmaster 172x LCD display

I have the most current drivers for the monitor, mainboard, and video card.

Thanks.
