AIA cannon is crappy, IMO.  Nice siege gun and that's all. Tanks will laugh at it.

kahn1234, Multi role is what I dislike, it may work for a small caliber, but I'd prefer to have howitzer or dedicated AA gun.

tryrar, we have naval guns already
______________________-

I really think my proposals are best, heavy coastal gun will help us in all future wars as all enemies will need to land at our  island, and helicopters can make our air-force unique and provide mobility for our land forces

And remember, we are designing weapons for the next wars, not this one...

Why dont you go tell the Germans their 88mm was crappy?

Why dont you go tell modern tank commanders they should only take AT shells as the only thing tanks should fight is other tanks (the British made that mistake in WW2 and paid the price).

Multirole is far superior to specialised. Sometimes specialised can be superior, but a Multirole AA/AT gun is the way to go either for emplaced guns for defense or on mobile platforms as support platforms.

Hell, the British Commonwealth and Empire troops used the QE 3.7inch AA gun so much there were thousands made. if only they had thought of using thema s AT guns they could have held North Africa whilst aiding Greece, instead of getting pushed back to El Alamain and having to take Libya a second time.

And the defence of France would have gone much smoother as well.....

kahn1234, Centurion never had 160mm armor, it had 76mm front, 51mm sides, 32mm rear. Turret was thicker  200mm\112mm\90mm. Where did you got 160mm from?
And it had 650hp engine. And early modifications had 76mm gun.
And that's a tank developed in 1945 using all WW2 experience

Back on topic... What happened with the  gunboat?

I said i BASED it on the Centurion. Obviously i added a few improvements and touches of my own.
Anyway i already conceded that for a small country it would be hard. as i said, i thought we were playing the USSR proper, not some small communist Mediterranean state.

Take off the mask,

You take off the mask and finger apparatus and drop them on the floor of the vat.

and put one hand up then tell the guards to "stop." If the guards try to grab you, push them off.

You put your hand up and tell the guards, who are advancing towards you, to stop. They seem surprised you took the initiative and stop. They turn and look at the scientists, as if asking for direction or orders.

Get up on your two feet then start walking towards Ala-Shar and stop about a few feet in front of her. Say "I will not be merely a tool a war for her." Resists any commands she gives to you.

You get and try approaching Ala-Shar. However, at a nod from her, the guards shake off their momentary confusion and grab you by the arms. They are far stronger than you would have thought just by looking at them.

Ala-Shar approaches you.

"I am impressed. I knew you were mentally powerful for a human, but to have the willpower to be the first of your group to awaken..." She studies you for a moment before telling to the guards to follow her. She starts walking parallel to the lines of vats you noticed in the room as you stepped out of yours.

If the guard gets violent, fight back.[/b]

However, you promised yourself you wouldn't go quietly. Taking the guard holding your left arm by surprise, you headbutt her and then kick her in the shin. She doesn't show any pain, but she is knocked off balance long enough for you to trip her, causing her to fall flat on her face. You then use your free arm to punch the other guard, who was reaching for something on her belt, in the face, sending her staggering back into a computer console.

Ala-Shar turns to see what the problem is. Her mouth drops when she sees you free. She tries to subdue you, but only manages to get into a stalemate.

You are struggling with Ala-Shar, neither has the advantage. The guards will be on their feet soon. The other scientists have seen the commotion and are coming to help, whilst some are alerting others.

What do you do?

Problems with your tank

a) 52 tonnes is not a medium tank. Tiger was 57
b) 160 mm armor is ridiculous for the tank of that era, tiger had 120mm.... And only on front. Tank with 160mm steel armor on all sides would weight something like 200 tonnes
c) 105 mm gun is an overkill for that era and heavy.
d) 1600HP engine? Thats more than Abrams have.

And so on

I based the tank on the British Centurion. it weighed in at 51 long tons and had 160mm all round slanted armour.

And remember, tanks aren't just for attacking other tanks. they are for breaking fortifications as well. 105mm is fine for AT and anti-infantry, and the 120 and 150mm cannons are for fortification busting.

and i said prototype 1200HP not 1600HP.

and why are so many people intent on following history 100%? if we build this monster, we'd be able to sweep enemy Armour and fortifications out our way. we wouldn't need large numbers of them. we could use a core of the as our spearhead supported by light tanks.

Plus, the chassis gives us a good base for other types of vehicles, such as Self propelled(SP) artillery, SPAA, combat engineering vehicles and armored troops transports.
Primarily people want to stick to history to a certain extent because I want to.

but then we make the same mistakes.

The thing is, what i proposed could have actually happened in real history. its just all the major powers were so intent on building tanks that were infantry support focused they never really thought about building larger until the late 30's. All engineers (and there were some) who wanted to do something similar to me, were ignored.

If we get there early, we get a huge advantage.
Short answer: No. Primarily the part about MAJOR POWERS. Forenia is not a major power. It is a communist island with a few amateur engineers, not the cutting edge of engineering.

my mistake then. i thought we were playing the USSR.

Try to Remember your past, concentrate on unused parts of your memory.

You concentrate on trying to remember your past. You manage to remember you were a successful secretary for your age, which was at the time 20, highly prized by your very busy boss. You had a fiance and you were going to get married later in the year. You were close to your family, which you think was rather large. Any more than that eludes you. Names, dates and other information seems impossible to remember.

Also, try to apply some pressure on your restraints by using your anger of being merely a tool to them for war , and been taken from your home without your consent.[/b]

Using your anger as a catalyst, you manage to break the restraints! You can now move about.

Attempt to mould our self-image. Become a star-fish.

You fail, although your surroundings do flash the image of a King of Spines starfish.

*Special event role*

As you start to mentally congratulate yourself on your new found freedom, the mental world you are in begins to fade. A few metres from you, a vortex opens, sucking the entire world into it, including you. You feel like you are falling. It is pitch black.

After a few moments, the sensations stop, only to be replaced by another barrage of feelings. Cold, sticky and confused.

You open your eyes.

You appear to be floating, suspended in a 12 foot high vat filled with some sort of greenish gloop. Covering your mouth and nose is a mask which vaguely resembles a full face scuba mask, connected through heavy duty industrial looking tubing to connections in the roof of the vat. Clipped to the ends of your forefingers are more wired up apparatus. You can see an array of screens at the foot of your vat. There is a red flashing light, which you believe must be some type of alarm.

As you look around through the surprisingly clear gloop, you see Ala-Shar and 4 others, two wearing what looks to be futuristic battle armour, rush towards your vat. You see Ala-Shar start giving orders. The gloop begins to drain out the bottom of the vat, slowly lowering you until you can stand on the floor, just a little higher than the team of Morey on the other side of the glass.

Once the gloop is fully cleared, the vats glass front begins to raise.

What do you do.

Current Status, Condition and inventory:
Completely naked.
Wearing mask.
Hooked up to machines by clips on fingers.
Unfamiliar with bodily changes.
Angry.

Seems pretty advanced for 1920's tank doctrine. I was developing the LAT-35 this turn and having an engineer sent to specialize in tanks so that we could potentially fit it in a small light tank like the MS-1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-18_tank

Not sure how realistic kingfisher wants to keep this, but something like that would be much closer to something built at the time.

Really it is a medium tank with rather advanced engine + suspension and a big gun. nothing too advanced about that.

Lets not make the same mistakes as they did in real life.

also, we could always petition the government to give us more engineers.

You struggle against the constraints, almost breaking them. You can feel the power fueling them weakening to what you would think of as dangerously low levels. Their mental containment systems seem to be failing.

Break the bonds, in order to get her attention again

Your struggling against the bond brings her back in. She looks exasperated and angry. She scowls at you. The look sends shivers down your spine.

Ala-Shar, I am not going to be your weapon! Why should I get involved with in a entirely alien conflict?

"You do not have a choice. The stage you are at now, and the physical and mental changes that have been performed on your body, have made it so that you would never, ever, fit into your society again. It has already been 10 Earth years since we acquired you. The only reason you are conscious now is because your brood is nearing completion" Ala-Shar retorted angrily.

How do I know you didn't provoke these Vanguards into this war?

"You do not know them. They are highly intelligent and they have spy rings that rival those of the Torun. its a miracle this facility has remained secret so long. The Vanguard are not easily fooled" She said, letting her annoyance shine through.

By the sounds of it you could easily manipulated them into eliminating these races then swoop in a claim now dead races' resources and territory....

"Three of the eliminated races were pacifistic. They were also our allies and close friends. Another two were young space-faring races, just setting out to master their own solar system. The last was, once, the Grand Forums guardians. None of them had done anything to us and none had things we coveted." Ala-Shar's expression briefly became the image of grief. You believe she may have lost at least one person close to her.

and you are so "advance" why didn't you just clone humans in order.... unless I am a clone and you just implanted a conscience into a body. [/b]

"You are not clones. Nor are your brood sisters. We tried clones once, but they were easily sniffed out. Some betrayed their inexperience by making mistakes no-one of their supposed age or rank would make. Others betrayed their ignorance of Vanguard tech. Most were killed on sight as they lacked something every Vanguard has which works as the ideal IFF" She takes a deep breath, which seems to steady her nerves and flush away bad memories.

"I suppose you are similar to clones, in a way. We have....acquired.... innocent, usually female, teenage humans and used cloned Vanguard technology to mold you into our version of their soldiers. We can only go so far due to only having access to equipment that was, to them, obsolete but with you, we should be able to stem the tide."

"You will also be useful against our other enemies."

Ignoring your continued questions she turns her back yet again and disappears. You deduce that something important must be happening back in reality that is holding her attention.

1259
Thoughts race through your head. Options? Why am i here? Where am i actually? what are they doing to me?

After what seems like an hour, Ala-Shar returns. You quickly open up a barrage of questions.

I'm guessing I am being operated on but the question is why? You wouldn't need a super-solider especially a human one since they could do it with their own people. A lab rat, maybe. No, it would be more effective for me not be aware of your existence or for you to even talking to me. Some type of sleeper agent then but you wouldn't be giving me "options" then.

What are these options?

"You make many assumptions, human." She purrs mildly, her mind obviously elsewhere. "Although you are half right about you current state being a type of surgery. You are not lab rat, you are far more advanced and precious to us, just like your sisters. And you are quite right, if we wanted sleeper agents, you wouldn't be here, at least, not for long....." She falls silent and turns to her side.

"I think it would be apt to start from the beginning.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

My race, the matriarchal Moray, are an old and powerful race, yet there are enemies even we will not antagonise blindly.

There are 4 such factions. Each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

The capricious Slinkar are the most insidious, an insectoid race hailing from the Fortus galaxy. I will not speak more of them. they make my blood boil.

The Abridan, a race of brave warriors who are a hybrid of avian and mamallian, famed amongst the lesser races for their stubborn yet honourable ways.

The Torun are a cunning and sly race of creatures, given to bouts of vanity and lust. They have caused us no end of problems both politically and militarily.

and finally, the secretive Vanguard......"

her face falls when she mentions the last one, casting a glimpse your way, seemingly to gauge your reaction to the name.

After it becomes apparent you don't know that name, as far as you can remember, she continues.

"The Vanguard, as they are known to us, are not technically a race, yet they are different from what their origins suggest. They are tall, powerful and highly resilient, even without access to their technology. Brave, uncorruptable and loyal to the last. and...." she pauses, again glimpsing at you "...they are human".

Your mouth hangs agape. Humans? in space? But its only 2013! at least, you think so. how is this possible?

Nodding at your reaction, seeming to confirm her suspicions. "I thought so. Even the people of their home-world don't know about them. The fact is, they have been warring with the non-human civilisations of the universe for almost 14 Earth years, paying special attention and eradicating when they can the non-humanoid ones. They need to be halted. Six races have already been banished to the sands of time by them."

"However this is easier said than done. As i have said before, their technology is extraordinarily advanced. And it only works, as far as we can tell, on a 100% human anatomy and it is very hard to reverse engineer it for anyone else. Too much tampering and it self destructs." A wry grin tickles her face "Still think you haven't been chosen as a soldier?"

"How do you know all this?"
You ask.

"We managed to down a Vanguard frigate which was performing various missions on the fringe of Morey territory. We salvaged some of their more primitive equipment, as well as the bodies of the crew. Using what we managed to reverse engineer, we set in motion the current project...."

As she is about to continue, her head suddenly jerks to the left. She frowns and quickly disappears, leaving you on your own.

What do you do?

Break the hold.

You push against the constraints, they are beginning to give. You believe a little more effort may help you break the hold maintained by whoever or whatever is out there.

Do everything we can do eject her from our mind

You try to eject her from your mind. The only thing that happens that you can see is the creation of a huge grin on the face of the alien woman. She seems to know you tried to eject her. You think to yourself that this may be a bad thing.

"Strike one".

and wake up.

Also, you try to wake up. Whilst you do think you have better success at this objective, and a few tiny cracks seem to appear in the sky near the horizon, they quickly disappear as Ala-Shar clicks her fingers. Her smile deepens and she chuckles to herself.

"Strike two. Naughty, Naughty. Would you like to know what we do to naughty little girls?" Her grin becomes mischievous. You do not like that. However her train of thought is interrupted by your next performance.

Maybe we can awaken some previously unused section of our mind that will allow us greater control over psychic intrusion.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You fail, badly. You only bring on a headache. Which has predictable but pretty results for the world around you. It starts pulsing and changing colour like some freaky mental disco. It stops after a couple of minutes. Ala-Shar bursts out laughing for a few minutes more.

But do it without showing any outward exertion.

You try to cover up your physical exertion when straining against your invisible bonds. You succeed. Whilst Ala-Shar seems to have noticed your mental acrobatics (or should that be stumbling?) she doesn't seem to have noticed your physical exertions.

Meanwhile, try to keep her talking until we can break free. "What do you mean? What path that I'm about to travel? The only path I plan on taking is out of this messed up place."[/b]

Ala-Shar stops examining you and looks into your eyes.
"You can try to break out of this 'messed up place', but i can almost guarantee two things. One, you will not like what you find at the moment if you awaken and two, against myself and my team, a human in your current condition is pathetic and has very little chance of escape.

As for the path you are to travel, wait and see. Your physical and mental conditioning is almost complete. The sheer fact you can perform any psychic feats at all, understand me and stay so calm in unfamiliar territory is testament to that" her smile fades. " Havent you wondered why you cant remember anything of your life on Earth? How you got here in the first place or even why we might have brought you here?"

She gives you one last look, before turning away and continuing.

"Everything seems to be in order. I will be back with your.....options....in a while. i just need to converse with my team. have fun....hehehe".

What do you do now?
