What previous life?

Well, the third boat's status is a little ambiguous; it says they were driven off, so I'm assuming they managed to get back into the boat and GTFO.

Also, I just realized something. These guys came right up the river for us correct? remember what's between us and where the invaders are camped out around the Duke's city? That's right, the Count's town!

For them to simply sail up the river past all the fortifications on the river the Count likely has means either two things; the count really IS complicit with the invaders(unlikely, but not actually out of character or impossible), or something's very wrong and the Count has his own problems(like a force seiging HIS town as well, or even he's been sacked!). Either way, I'm seriously doubting we can count(heh) on any help from him at this point. We should still send a messenger to his town tho to at least see whats up, but we operate right now assuming the count is incapacitated(this also means having our knightly friends rush down for a war council)

If they took the 3rd boat, 4 ships would have sail back down the river.

I think our archers slaughtered them before they could take the 3 beached ship back down the river.

Unless I read that wrong, we also killed everyone on the second boat, so we have two of their craft. If we follow them at a two hour's delay, we would go in fully loaded boats and our felluca, since speed is no longer a factor. As many as 50 men.

They probably don't expect the usual sheep and peasants around here that they've been slaughtering to give chase even after a victory, so they'll feel safe after putting some distance between us. They'll make camp, tend their wounded, etc. We'll spot these campfires and hit them again, for good measure.

we have 3 of their longboats.

there were 6 longboats in total. 3 escaped.

That first boat is empty and we're right here. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? If we get us and ten good archers in that boat, we can chase them downriver for good measure, and possibly capture some of the ships that are laden down with more men.

We are low on ammo, dont know how many casualties we took for sure, what condition our standing troops are in and we dont have anyone competent enough to sail the long-ships at then moment.

The Harvest is closing in and if we dont get the harvest in, we will stare, we need the women and children back, take in the harvest, resume production and construction of the walls.

If we really want to send harassing troops out, send out teams of dragoon archers and rangers to harass the enemies supply lines.

Also, no to chasing them straight away. It would negatively effect morale as we could be seen by the troops as abandoning the fallen and wounded.

take stock of the casualties.

I think it is OK to send a messenger to bring back the women and children, at least some, anyway, which could help resume production and agriculture. If we dont get the Harvest in, we'll starve.

Check the bodies of the fallen enemies, and check the longboats. If possible, moor the longboats at our docks so we can easily use them if needed.

i'm just interested on how you plan to introduce them. it is a fantastic chance for hilarity (which i will leave in your capable hands). She is sassy and vocal and she wouldnt be afraid of Burnie or his power.

(PS: no dresses. She will probably be wearing tight fitting (but leather, and reinforced) riding leggings, have knee length boots and maybe leather armour for the torso and upper arms with elbow length gloves. She isnt a wallflower or a weakling.)

how about a combination of volley and constant fire?

Some squads fire at the same time, other keep the enemies heads down with a constant arrow barrage.

Did we send messengers to the other two knights who we are allied with? are they coming to help us?

(sorry if this is overpowered. i can tone it down if you like).

Name: Alexander 'Reaper' Gorin

Gender: Male

Biography and Acts of Valor: Born on a large space station orbiting earth in the mid 20th century which was under the command of a company called Vanguard. Technological advances had increased a thousand-fold over the last century. Space travel was becoming common and Vanguards technological marvels were unmatched. Due to its dominance, wars were fought between the Vanguard Corporation and the world superpowers. Worried that the wars would wreck their prized home world, Vanguard built and took to huge continent sized space stations in which Vanguard preserved all the cultures, flora and fauna of Earth, with the numbers of humans, animals and plants numbering in the billions. Eventually, when these became full, Vanguard built and expanded onto 6 artificial worlds in a young solar system several light years away from earth, connecting them through instant transport gates known as Q-Gates.

He enlisted into the Vanguard military at 20 (very for the near immortal augmented humans the Vanguard are) and worked his way through the ranks until he was eligible for the elite T.I.T.A.N squads. Before his promotion to the elite, he was a model trooper, brave and resourceful. He served on many new colonies, needed as the artificial worlds themselves were becoming too full, and on many campaigns on the worlds held by their enemies.

He showed promise. First on the newly colonised planet under attack by a marauding alien war fleet, then in his single handed destruction of a solar system to stop the world reaping aliens known as the Purge. His list of achievements is too long to list. One of his greatest feats was the destruction of several dozen solar systems in a neighboring galaxy when the threat of yet another civilisation destroying organic space swarm was sighted preparing for a galaxy jump using a captured Q-Gate after the destruction of three Vanguard colony fleets and 3 colonised Solar Systems.

Description:
Height: 7 foot 9
Eye colour: Gold with a red crosshair when in battle mode, blue when not.
Hair colour: dark blonde
Physique: Godlike

Mental state: Honourable, duty bound, brave, calm, loyal. Prizes humanity over everything and, like the rest of his universes version of humanity, shuns cybernetics, genetic mutations and manipulation that changes the human body away from the human shape. He has no qualms about using nanotechnology, particle physics and genetic manipulation to augment and enhance the basic human body.

Aptitudes: Tech and Shock (I'd have also like Physique, but alas, only 2....)

Other: He can be your greatest ally, or your worst enemy. He doesn't talk much. Highly intelligent and highly augmented using stem cell/bio based nanomachines and nanomaterials.

When in combat, his armour (a mind boggling combination of nanomaterials, synth-muscle protection and shield generators running at least 3 dozen shields) is secreted as nanoswarms from his skin, creating Vanguards ultimate weapon: the Maelstrom Armoured Bio-Nanosuit, or MABN for short.

Without his armour active, his skin is protected from many types of attack due to the threat-reactive nature of the bio-nanomachines in his body and skin. Even more bio-nanomachines reinforce his bones, tendons, muscles and organs, making them extremely tough. Organic, bio-nano-quantum-computers augment his conscious and unconscious mental state and nano-scale memory chips are used to store all technical, engineering and scientific information he could possibly need.

Even with all this, he can still be outsmarted, outgunned, or overwhelmed. However it takes a lot to take this tough cookie down. Usually tanks for the rest of his team.

for roleplay:

"WATCHMEN! get to the mines, manor and other important places outside the town and keep watch for approaching enemies. alert us if they do.

ARCHERS! get to advantageous positions in which you can fire on the enemy! I want as many of them dead as possible before they try to land.

RANGERS! harass the enemy. keep moving. Kill as many as possible.

HALBERDS! Line the docks! DO NOT LET THEM THROUGH."

Edit: Wait a minute, if this is based on middle age England, and if these really are LONGBOATS then that means only one thing: Viking expys!

Or Scandinavian (or this worlds equivalent) mercenaries employed by the foreign power to cause destruction and disrupt the country.

+1 to that as well. Don't forget to pass out any fire arrows we might have and have our archers' first volley at the boats be that

not enough time. we need to have accurate arrow fire to kill as many on the ships as possible. it will also disorganise them.

the key factor here is: They will not be expecting resistance. they think they have taken us by surprise.
