"Care to join us then, miss? There should be some in the kitchen."

"<That bad? Do you know have any idea where it might be now?>"
You really don't like the sound of that '<now>'.

There's a few clohhing stores and restaurants in a good position that watch the front of the quest hub. Windows aren't open and front door opens and closes, not to mention it's where the most foot traffic is. Best bet would be to fire either through a portal or from elsewhere within the building.

The receptionist shifts a little closer, their voice dropping low "<The bioweapon.>"

The train ride was mostly uneventful. It's smoother yes, quieter too, scenery wasn't too hard on the eyes either, but no matter how much you magic it it's just a train ride. The only real curveball took the form of a few people who wanted to take photos.

Guild's not too far from the platform, the building looking shockingly mundane all things considered, a fairly corporate looking building with wide open gates jammed between an assortment of shops and restaurants. The only particularly odd feature being the quest pylons outside. Adventurers wander in, out, and generally around the building.

The interior is cozy, warm, somewhere between lounge and hotel lobby with some jaunty tune playing overhead. Adventurers browse quests from the pylons and turn them in at th desks. There's also a group of weirdos hanging by the door looking like a buncha Pokemon villain rejects.

The moment you enter the door they're upon you, two dozen firearms leveled at your face.
"<The boss sends his regards.>"

You arrived a little while after the pair. Coupla social media posts gave away their position when they disembarked. A coupla more gave away half their damn movesets, these all by an account speaking in that classically lcsonoc Twitter-y "as it happens" kind of manner. An account only created a few hours prior, the only posts to its name their running commentary of the fight you left.

So, they know Yuki has those arrows, that teleport, and that awfully threatening mix of shielding, regeneration and raw unbridled force. They know Noriko has scarily accurate homing spears, the power of flight, a spell-eating flame, and something about going all Old Country For Old Men on a motherfucker. Who they are, you find also intermixed amongst gossip articles with such wonderful titles like Is Patricija's Girlfriend A Brocon? Apparently, the people who attacked them were students of the military academy here. By the sounds of it, there's practicals going on, and the test is to try and beat both the girls. Well, you know their foes at least, even if you're still not 100% on your own.

You're outside the guild right now. The trio are working within. Baghead and co are watching from afar outside the building. Red is there too, doing her damnedest to appear distracted by all the cops and medics inside the building. You won't be recognized should you enter, Sakurako will however.

Noriko and Yuki
With an awful lot of poking and prodding, the officer finally gets the henchman off the chandelier. Their belt had been caught when they got launched up there, and with the beating they just took, they weren't really feeling up for resisting arrest. The rest of the mob's scattered and strewn across broken furniture, nursing some broken bones and wounded pride. No blood though. Yuki had been so kind as to use the reverse edge of her chainsaw. Noriko, simply had no need to stab them after the first wind blast. They went down like complete bitches. Turns out standing right in front of the people with the windblasts and black murder tide is a terrible fucking idea. Who'd have thought?

With that mess sorted and Noriko well salted, the trio approach the dark spectacled receptionist.
"<Ah greetings Miss...>"
He glances down, checking his terminal
"<Master of the Holy Flame, and... Miss Harbinger of the Divine Wind.>"
He leans forward ever so slightly.
"<Do you have the package?>"

[Now Playing: Emperor's New Clothes]

What emerges from Gandiva is not an arrow but a chain of fire tipped with the point of a blade. The Bodhisattva takes the blow to their left arm, the limb armored and metallic as if to match the hand that rose to seize you. The flames constrict around their arm as they grip the chain and hurl it backwards pulling you right out of the path of their own trap and straight towards them. They're not planning on running though. They're not planning on beam you either. No, they're gonna meet you head-on. Angular plating crystallizes out of their body giving them a distinctively more armored appearance as they use their left arm as a counterweight to drive their right fist forwards sending it on a collision course with your face.

Iron. She tasted iron in her mouth. Had she made a misstep? Was her brilliant strategy a little less stellar than she'd care to admit? Of course not. That was simply not possible, a proper maid like her unable to best a pair of such lowly scoundrels? No, this, this was simply a small setback, like any other.

Life has its twists and turns, its caprices and its vicissitudes. This world is cruel. This world is uncaring. It will assail you, with doubts, with obstacles, bombard you with its slings, its arrows, and slander you with how you're "not a real maid",  with how "horses are not allowed in this bar" over and over and over again, and again, and again, until finally, finally it breaks you. But it too can break, it too has its limits.

Cast your heart in steel

Cast your will in iron.

This world will not break you.

So long as you hold that unshakeable will, there will always be a way forwards. So long as adversity begets determination so too shall calamity beget providence. And in this case, that providence took the form of a healing spell cast by a stranger clad in the attire of a butlet. Just the little pick-me-up she needed. Wounds closing, she staggers to her feet. Like hell would she give up now, and like hell would she let her story end like this.

Watch out world! Marcia Henry has the power of stranger-subsidized healthcare on her side!

"You have my thanks, good sir."

"<To be fair, I don't think they're going to be monsters or trying to rip you apart.>" She pauses, resting her hand over her mouth for a moment as if in thought. When she speaks again her expression brightens, well sort of anyway, it's a bit mixed with uncertainty. "<Though... if you're here for training anyway, why not use this as a chance to train? Wouldn't it just be like sparring. Plus... you'll be able to take your anger out. C'mon, you're from the old world right? Haven't you ever wanted to smash something? Like a wall or a building? I'm sure no one will mind if you do that here...>"

You backpedal, staying the hell out of range. You know why things are the way things are. You know you need to stay on your toes if you want to protect yourself, protect Minato. You know you need to grow. But, it doesn't make the steps any less painful, the failures any less frustrating.

Children play in the streets. Couples visit the stalls arm in arm. Tourists flock beneath monuments. If you could, if you had the choice, would you be in their place instead? Would you be taking in the sights rather than taking another fucking celestial body to the face? No.

No. But it doesn't stop your wishing, and it is from those wishes you forge your new shield, a shield of distraction and indifference, of apathy and inaction. It won't stop Sol. Hell it won't even protect you against him. But you don't need it to, you just need to burst it, manually if need be. Give him a bit of pause, a little dash of hesitation. That should be enough, enough to delay his retaliation, enough for you to blast him away without taking the hit.

He's still chasing you, not really making any moves though. Slow down just a bit and you could do it. Dodge the initial sun and pop it right in face. Leap out of there before he can counter. That, that should be enough to hand you the win.

In theory at least.

Care to test it?

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Re: Tengoku no Owari OOC

Just a table to track possible hexes Faith can take for her rework. I'll be making a similar one for new skills Shef can learn once he actually has a few more fights.

I've omitted hexes she either has no idea how to replicate (e.g. Soul Resonance - March Au Supplice) or too similar to what she has already (e.g. Bankai - Godslaying Crimson Thorn).
Essence
    Source
    Compatibility Rank
    Details

Essence of Wither
    Harvest, Nico
    C
Obtained from observing Harvest's ability Sanctuary Inversion - Killing Fields.
An inverted sanctuary with a barren earth that leeches the lifeforce of those who tread upon it, like an ancient libertarian burial ground.
Recalling Nico's weaponization of Doki Doki energy, you wonder if you could leave a similarly entrapping field using radiation instead.

Essence of Frost
    Harvest's Familiars
    C
Obtained from observing the familiar spell Frost Arrows.
Arrows of frost debilitate and immobilise foes with tendrils of frost.
Your spells are currently more exothermic but with your energy manipulation maybe you'll be able to leech heat out of objects too?

Essence of Madness
    Luna
    B
Obtained from being struck by Luna's spell Light of Madness.
A moon-turned-wrecking ball that bathes its surroundings with insanity, twisting reality and inflicting psychological damage.
Perhaps if you could further infuse your spells with your feelings you could replicate the mental damage, or at least make sure your foes are about as miserable about the whole situation as you are.

Essence of Expeditious Discharge
    Sol & Luna
    D
Obtained from being struck by Sol and Luna's spell Minuteman's Curse.
A timebomb-like cursed utilized by the twins. Exactly one minute after infliction, the victim's body is forcibly purged of spirit energy, leaving them weakened and vulnerable. Apparently it's fairly unreliable but your low magic resistance combined with their time magic makes it a dangerous combo.
Maybe you could leverage your energy manipulation to siphon away people's spirit energy?

((Ah right, the actual game will/would have an actual OOC for recruitment and whatnot.))

Consume shrooms with response or without.
Day turns to cavernous night and mushrooms begin to sprout from in the corners and edges of the room. A rhythmic pulse ripples through them, a wave of light traveling through the fungal masses, the shrooms glowing a ghostly blue before disgorging their light as clouds of drifting spores. Judging by the direction it's coming from, the source of the pulse must be coming from outside the room, traveling inwards. Maybe from somewhere in the building, maybe from outside, definitely not here though.

-snip-
You cannot see the world through Jin's eyes. You cannot see her hallucinations, you cannot bear witness to the world she finds herself in now. Oh wait, you totally can. You open a link to her avatar's sensors, hardly a difficult matter given that you two, your real bodies are in the same office after all.

Huh, more mushrooms, trippy.

Ptw does yjis have an OOC thread?
((No. Didn't think this would need one since it's just a system test.))

A blur in your peripheral, that is the only warning you get. With a pulse of energy you launch backwards, a bit dramatic sure, but by now you know better than to stay close, close quarters is death. Sol's right on front of you, you could nail him with a beam right now. Could. Last time you did that you got trapped in a burning star. You drew blood first that time sure, honestly you're surprised he bleeds all things considered, but what's it matter? Your life to take another's, it's a poor trade, especially against that Aramitama, against Harvest. She'll just come back, you won't.

You do a leap now, wide angle, too wide to hit Sol even if you refocus, but that's not the point - battle's as good as over with those cards intact. You end the leap early, dodging to the side as a curse bolt tears past you and bust your own shield to blow away throwing knife follow up. It's as good as worthless against it anyways. You keep a mental note of where its remains land.

That miniature sun, that is Sol's ability.

A burning star whose intensity scales exponentially with proximity. It's fine faraway. Up close even its tidal forces become a threat. And he can hide it. In the ground, in a building. In a knife, in a deck of playing cards. An ever present threat, lurking, looming. It's probably inside the ground right now, racing forwards, just waiting to erupt out from beneath you. He can do more with it too, but you've taken care of that. Energy manipulation poisons it, counters it, but only when it's unleashed, only when it's in the open. And now, it's rarely in the open. When it comes out, if it comes out, you won't have the time to stop it. So best eliminate that option.

This is the situation you find yourself in now, your little dance of mutually assured destruction, the next part of your training. You wanted to gets better at fighting right? You wanted to protect Minato right? Well you better learn then.

So this is the scenario, you're free to wander around, do whatever the fuck you want, but the twins, they'll just up and jump you, just outta nowhere, just like now. One at a time, but that's not much of a consolation. Still, you're getting better at it, slowly but surely you're getting the hang of it.

Sol's the bigger threat of the two, if only because Luna nerfed her spell; it was some kinda moon-turned wrecking ball, a reality warping psychic weapon that really just confirmed your suspicions that your mental defenses aren't up to scratch. Still, she's a threat, just less so than Sol.

Thing with Sol is, you can hit him. You're sure you can. You've done it before too. Issue is, he can hit you too, and he hits hard. It's a game of mutually assured destruction against a foe with nothing to lose, it's not a matter of landing it hit, it's a matter of hitting him without him hitting you too, and that, that is hard.

"Well done. You are learning quickly."

He closes in now, a swift slash followed by a screening scattar of cards. You can hit him now, but the star'll come out, be it from the ground, the spear, or the cards.
