Thanks for the replies. I made a pocket size world with short history, now it works better. So the conclusion: DF adventure mode's code isn't optimized very well when modern computers cannot run it properly. Still i love the game <3
The question is where were you when it lagged this hard?
If it was a dwarven fortress then I can tell you that it lags like all hell has broken loose.

Movement speed doesn't affect much unless there are creatures - and especially chatterbox humanoid ones - around.
(and there are a lot of such chatterboxes in fortresses)
Did you pick up a crutch? There's a new bug where if you pick up a crutch, your speed drops down like you're using the crutch, even if you aren't. Even if you put it down, your speed stays really low.
This bug existed in the previous version too, albeit only triggering if you threw the crutch away while using it. (Now it also triggers when you 'p'ut it away somewhere.)
To fix it, have a crutch in your hand and drop it.

Well considering that any kind of bone hit (and they are shockingly frequent when using (cross)bows) results in an instant loss of consciousness due to pain this version and that (cross)bows are faster to fire now, calling them anything but insta-killing crossbowmen would be an understatement.
Because all they need is to shoot you in the knee once before your ass is grass.
and it doesn't help that the utterly armor-piercing behavior of said launchers hasn't been fixed either

There's nothing to update because it's just a bunch of custom base tilesets.
Which means that you just have to dump the tileset into the \art\ folder and change the

line in init.txt to something like

(and the same for FULLFONT:***.png if you're playing fullscreen)

and that's it

I'm not sure if you're just fucking around but as far as I know then bogeymen are supposed to always try to murder your face.
Which is exactly what this one bogeyman wasn't trying to do for whatever reason.

Something is seriously wrong with aggression at the moment.

This is not supposed to happen.

DF General Discussion / A good DF machine?
« on: July 09, 2014, 05:46:20 pm »
As we all know, DF isn't exactly the strongest in terms of using fancy CPU features (and we're talking about SIMDs and not only multithreading here) - what do you think would make a nice, solid DF machine?

Intel recently released an unlocked Pentium G3258 processor (which can go above 4 GHz if you so wish), so I'm wondering whether or not it's a solid (and cheap since DF doesn't use fancy shit) choice.
An "alright" GPU would probably help, but I don't exactly know how much DF utilizes that.

the question is just whether or not i am incorrect in this shit
i probably am :^)

GM-X: Since you're puzzled over what name to pick for your mod, you should consider being so classy as to rip off Fear of the Dark.
Remind me to check it out once you get it ported over to DF2014.

And Xangi you should check your messages more often.

Yes, but far too rarely.

Which is silly considering that they say "It was inevitable." to you shouting about how you killed this titan that they really wanted dead.
and then they go right back to telling you that it would be great if you killed this titan you just talked about killing.

good job listening knuckleheads

It can be explained by your character going insane.
Nobody said ARMOK's duty was an easy burden for the mortal mind.

The new combat is a great improvement over the previous combat system, what with manual dodging (wow strategy) and multi-attacks being an actual thing.

Although there seems to be a problem with pain being far too strong this version, because everything human faints the moment they get their bones whacked.
which is rather impractical since that means whatever fainted (including you) will soon suffer a cranial explosion.

A slightly less beta gothic font! (All big letters should be edgy enough now.)

Caught in action with Vherid's Dark Sand color scheme.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Worth noting is that they can turn your head into a pulp with a single punch thanks to their immense strength.
oh and you'll pass out the moment they turn any other part of you into goo (for some mysterious reason pain knocks people out far too often now)
and then your head is the next thing to turn into a bloody pulp

have fun

Yes, we are all too used to bloodthirsty berserkers with an unquenchable hunger for your mushed brains.
But that doesn't mean that a group of cocky bandits shouldn't try to mug some lonely adventurer.

Beta version of a blackletter (gothic) font.
Well it fits the game enough that I'm sitting here and wondering why it's not the default font.

The best water containers are currently a bag (lightweight and contains up to 100 water) and your own inventory.
Which means that it's a great idea to pick up a bag and fill it with water.

Silly as all hell, definitely! Useful? You betcha.
