DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Dwarf Fortress Multiplayer(Ish)

Swordsdwarf, because if you can't chop its head off - then you're almost always able to just stab its brains to death.

The biggest thing about adventure mode right now is that nothing but humans have actual sites - and so everything has to have human sites. (They don't AFAIK)
Unless you're a big fan of having to kill Urist McBadguy in the Dark Fortress That Does Not Exist.

It's been a very long time since I've played this with masterwork, but I clearly remember everyone being completely butt-naked.
Which is fine for sieges to keep things more tidy, but kind of weird otherwise. It'd be better if normal 'clothes' were instead some form of armor. So that everything wouldn't either be completely naked or with a piece or two of armor on.

It shouldn't be good armor, but it shouldn't be useless cloth either. Though I'm not sure if that's possible.

Updating the Fear The Night parts could also be an idea, since it makes vampirism/lycanthropy/tomb raiding much more fun. Though the 1290-speed-cap-on-vampires-and-the-like detracts a bit, but that's not the mod's fault. (I can only really, really want this to be fixed in the next version.)
admittedly tomb raiding still isn't all that fun, but it's better than getting marked for death like it is in vanilla

what material is the strongest between ironbone, copper, steel and gold for a blocking bracer....seem to have had a run on them and dont know which one to equip and is there a way to find out the strengths of certain materials etc.. cheers peeps...:]....RED
Since it's a shield (and I know it is), whichever is the lightest. (So probably ironbone)

Otherwise steel armor would be the best of those four.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: infection
« on: August 06, 2013, 03:41:44 pm »
Get a companion, lead him out into the middle of nowhere, and then use adv-body swap to take control of him and hack off your smashed fingers.

Boom, no more infection.  Dwarven medication at its finest.
Do note though that the chances of this succeeding are directly proportional to exactly how bad your adventurer is. If he's bad enough you'll just find your possessed companion being torn apart by your actual adventurer.

Making the transformation reaction would probably be the easiest way out.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Finding lairs w/o quest?
« on: August 06, 2013, 03:33:30 pm »
The reason is because you haven't grinded enough bandit leaders in sewers and whatnot yet, not because you can't take it.

Though it all boils down to how hardcore your adventurer is.

261
adv-bodyswap is a good command.

Mentioning the command would've also been good.

Is the Adventure mode questlog going to be made slightly more useful?
There's already a key (m) that's supposed to show information, but instead of something minorly useful like a log of the quest giver's words, it only shows the name and race of the target.

A log of the questgiver's words would at least provide you with a description of your target, because something like "Kill Atir Ragthroat | dwarf" doesn't provide you with information of what Atir really is.
Is he a werewolf? Is he a vampire? Or something else due to mods? Who knows, certainly not you if you forgot it! Which is very likely with a lot of quests.. And this is where a quest log should come in, after all.

but alas, all the quest log says to you only to kill Atir Ragthroat, a dwarf.
The problem comes in when you forget that Atir Ragthroat is a master vampire due to you playing with a mod that can do that, and that master vampires are actually very lethal.
Now, if only you had logged that little detail in your quest log, you'd know exactly who's who. But currently you don't, and that's a bit silly.

It's hard to love something that's nothing but an empty, unfinished shell that's completely static and without any signs of life at this point.

You know, what with the missing goblin, elf and dwarf sites, nothing going on - shops being completely useless, the same old quest structure of bandits->more bandits->something/bandits->blabla
Oh, and the cavern populations getting completely wiped out apparently due to a bug. Which means there's only the overworld to explore, unless you like pointlessly wandering for hours on end while utterly lost.

and what with the next version of DF sitting there and making playing that seem utterly pointless (not to mention all the other games available out there seem more attractive currently)

Don't get me wrong on that I don't like it at all (I do like the premise), it's just that it's so lackluster and dead at the moment that it's not really worth being a general timesink.

265
Doublepostan as fuck (boo), but erm - how do you check your exact stats as an adventurer? Anything in DFHack for that, perhaps?

266
There was a funny discussion little discussion about just that topic some time ago.

In short, yes - if you can find a way to fast-travel away from the gutting scene before the creature dies from blood loss.

267
Well truth to be told, I like it more for the ambience it provides. Most notably nights being really, really dark.

Though it'd be nice (if it's possible that is) if it didn't affect the interface, since my complaint ought to be rather obvious once you look at it:

also omfg lights in df whoah cool

268
Could You (the adventurer) also emit light by default? ???

It wouldn't really have much of an effect in the adventurer mode, but it'd make things a bit gloomier.

Code: [Select]
<Bloax> FINALLY
Code: [Select]
<Bloax> guess what i just did
Code: [Select]
<Bloax> so i managed to get three fags at me at once
<Bloax> namely two macemen and one pikeman
<Bloax> All while shortly after starting said fight I managed to get an extreme pain status.
<Bloax> Which means that what accuracy I might've had just went down the toilet.
<Bloax> And so quite a long time of struggling for survival through exploiting that I can charge them into the ground ensued.
<Bloax> while exploiting the fact that my companion was still crippled but alive at the time to break them up a bit until said companion's chest caved in on his heart
<Bloax> Eventually I managed to get a hit in on the stomach of this pikeman.
<Bloax> Which rendered him much less threatening when he's lying on the floor in his own vomit.
<Bloax> then with loads of flailing around trying to get shots on the weapon arms of the macemen and eventual headshot potshots i actually managed to kill one
<Bloax> and then the other remaining ones tried to escape
<Bloax> but i can't let that happen NOW, can i?

<FKER_Guy> Jesus man
<FKER_Guy> I walked away for 10 minutes and holy shit

<Bloax> and we're off to a great start
<Bloax> and i have no idea
<Bloax> how i survived some 9 or so hits to the head
<Bloax> probably because cudgels suck

<FKER_Guy> Cudgels are literally just maces though
<FKER_Guy> slightly smaller maces

So yeah, it's very nice to be in extreme pain right off the bat in a fight against three enemies, especially when you're almost straight out of the character creation oven. (This is literally the first fight I did.)
Especially so if you're doing an unarmed character, which would only mean that what attacks do hit won't really do much damage.

Though it kind of was an advantage once I actually lost both arms, since not much changed from that loss.
Intense, but now I have to figure out how to perform DWARVEN HEALTHCARE on myself to hack off my now infected right thumb.

Edit: And now after becoming an enemy of some lizardmen civilization due to me killing a companion that couldn't manage to chop my thumb off (when did I become so powerful) and so had to be dealt with.
Hooray, loyalty cascades!

The best news are that I managed to lose my other arm in big brawl against a bunch of lizardmen villagers because I'm an ass like that.
So now I'm looking forward to the quest for lycanthropy.. Fortunately this is Fear the Night with some extras, so that's guaranteed to be fun.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Quite the looker ain't he.

If anyone's wondering how I'm dealing with hunger, I'm using adv-bodyswap along with some random drunk I dressed up for combat - who then hacks corpses to pieces that I grab on my actual adventurer.
boy would it be nice if companions weren't complete idiots

EditEdit: DEATH FROM ABOVE
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And so after finding myself even further crippled in this fight (to the point where I had only one horn and a bite left)
A lot of boring pages of

this stuff happened

Until eventually the grind paid off in the end and
done

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Boy, I sure am a mess by now!

also say goodbye to this line of progress because i just crashed after taking that shot
But yeah, it was the old fashioned ambush where someone eventually stabs you in the foot. Which is minorly inconvenient when you're already a cripple without both your arms and with four melee and one ranged enemies remaining.
Then after that and taking out the enemy that took out my foot - the ranged scum manages to disable my other leg. And then I strangle the remaining swordmaster and put a horn through its head. Same goes for the bowman, after I finally found the bugger.

And what with fortresses not caring about you taking the stuff inside them, ammo shouldn't really be a problem.
