I'd personally like it if they could still raid the circus, for one. :P
How long it would take to dig down that far matters exactly none.

It'd be fun if there was a "Compare size" menu when (l)ooking at something, though.
Defaulting to comparing the creature to a dwarf. (On the left)
With -/+ zooming in/out of the scene. Though a dragon would still be absolutely enormous.

But it'd be fun, but there should probably be text on the top specifying the actual sizes of the two creatures.
So imagine a "Dwarf: 60000" around the top-left corner, and a "Dragon: 25000000" around the top-right corner.
And a normal-sized dwarf head on the left beside an absolutely enormous D on the right, which can be observed in its full, enormous-ness glory if you hold the "-" key for a couple of seconds.

That would be fun, yes it would.

As for vector graphics, if we're to speak of it in their simplest form, then they're practically just lines instead of individual pixels/squares. Like we see here on a Vectrex from 1982
And because they're lines, we can look closer at them - and they'll scale accordingly. Because lines go from somewhere to somewhere, and thus we know how it'd look if we were closer.
With individual squares, you have to scale every square up. Because you only have information about every individual square, and squares are still squares if you take a closer look at them.

But yes, Dorf Fortress seems like a good candidate for vector graphics. Hell, maybe even tilesets, if someone has the patience/manpower.

Well for one you recently made half the Fear the Night stuff a bit unplayable, if simply because you removed the varied materials from the different races.
..And werecreatures of the different kinds have different weaknesses, like iron, bronze, copper and silver. Whilst being adamantite-proof otherwise.

Not that I mind, though now that I think about it, the guaranteed steel gear from humans doesn't really matter when your enemies likely have steel weapons anyways.

More !!FUN!!, I guess.

You know I'm bad - I'm bad, you know I mirror things when I feel like that.

Though to expand on the automatons, do castes appear in hostile attacks? Because they could definitely use some castes where they're quite simply made of different materials. (As a start, anyways.)

That'll teach him!

Am I reading people argumenting that a single ogre that wrecks some shit in your fortress is much more !!FUN!! than having an entire band of ogres storm your fortress? :'(

If I'm to voice my opinion, then honestly, does it even matter? Edit: Ninja'd while Wall-Of-Texting

I mean honestly, currently what we see is a description of the character, how they are and how they look.

But how would it contribute to a picturing of someone if there was this one appendix to it;

"Urist McHammerer is a towering figure among dwarves, with a bottomless patience and he doesn't anger fast. With a good understanding of social relations, but a bad memory.
He has deeply sunken eyesockets, and his eyes are a deep shade of brown. He has a broad head and his beard is long and splits in two along the bottom."
Oh, and he has a fuzzy feeling for Urist McGuyManson. Yeah just so that you'd know.

I mean while it's somewhat on the topic, I don't really see how sexual preferences have any effect on the picturing of the imaginary character.
The only true "feeling" that we see of the dorfs is that they don't like it when a ghost comes and pulls their legs off.

Maybe at some point where processing power will be in abundance it might be worth investing in actual relationships, for the surprising occasion where an overseer would catch two dwarves hanging out.
But until then, I don't really see the point of having this. It has no true substance in the picturing of the character. Unless you imagine them with relations in the fortress, in which case you might as well imagine their sexual attractions while you're at it.

Masterwork is kind of fucked up for adventuring, but yet it's the only one that I really like for some reason.

Slaves to Armok: God of Blood II - Dwarf Fortress

Thus with a bit of guessing, in this context: Slaves to Armok = Dwarves

On a slightly different note;
Retired adventurers that end up in a player fortress really should have one deity that they worship, which would then be Armok, God of Blood.
You know, for easter egg reasons.

I'd probably keep volcanic, but it shouldn't be frequent by any means.
