I once had a siege, that ended with the first ballista arrow i fired, it took out their leaders eye, leaving him unharmed apart from losing his left eye. He freaked and ran, everyone in the siege followed him.

If dwarf a slams into dwarf b after a fall, will Utrist McA be charged with assault/murder?

Reminds me of the guard wars in Oblivion, if a guard hurt another guard all guards would be hostile to him. But since he still was a guard the other guards would attack his attackers to.
yeah... had the guards from the "Black Mine"( i think thats what it was called)
was start a war... they where following me around for some reason till i punched a guard in the face who didn't seem to like that very much, luckily a random orc decided to go clobber the guard. Whereto the black mine guards responded by attacking her... That being a crime they got in a quarrel with the guards and they just started killing everybody while calling each other murderer...

I don't think magma works that way, Tanelorn. Magma doesn't flow up from chokepoints the way water does.
i think that U bend story is a really, really old story wich have been alredy fixed but rested as a legend ...
however i2amroy summs up nicely too all the legends around magma wich arent so but many people says in forum ;)
magma tends to act funny when water is dumped on it, but your average just get it below my forge user wont be troubled by that.

no,i do not use any reveal tools. but i finally managed to find some marble. it's rather rare, but as i did not find any magnetite yet - only a few hematite veins - i do not need that much flux.
and there are no goblins on my map. that's sad because human sieges are rare and i'd like to put my deadly, gigantic bridge trap into use. if i kill the next human caravan will the odds of a human siege increase?

Stay a civilian. The fortress guard is basically useless, and if you get a Hammerer, he'll hit your dwarves if you have a sheriff.
Should have made those sterling silver items then.

You should be able to cut it, but I'm afraid you can't yet:

there is one in the job manager. seems to work fine.

I just got spammed by this:
dumed öntakkadol, cat <tame> cancels store item in stockpile: too injured.
Theres some mixed in about another cat too.
Any reasons why my cats are even attempting to store stuff in stockpiles?

not in the same world as that fortress, but you could save scum (copying your save) and abandon in the copy to go adventure there.

Has Toady mentioned anything about improving how the military menu works?
I really hope so.  It's the only part of the game that, no matter how much info I look up, I just can't figure it out.

It must be improved, and not only that. EQUIPPING your army/soldiers needs a major overhaul also. We should be able to equip all dwarves with specific equipment. Right now you cannot tell a dwarf to pick up Axe #2. instead of Axe #1...and its hella annoying to be honest.
hmm... try stationing them on axe #2.
