DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Do friendly goblins ever siege?
« on: August 22, 2008, 10:25:13 am »
From comments Ive seen around the forums I gather goblin seiges are hardcoded despite your relationship to a goblin civ at the time. This may change in the future.

The future is now.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Gothic hunter (sleeping on a coffin)
« on: August 19, 2008, 03:19:15 pm »
I like to place rows of coffins down each side of my main entry hall for the "common dwarf" (and their pets) to be buried in.  (It also says very clearly to any visitors, that "yes, this is a real dwarf fortress.  No easy living here...   ;D)

As tp12 said, if I have a heroic dwarf I'll give them a tomb.  Unfortunately most of the time I don't know that they are heroes until they're dead and you can't assign tombs to corpses or body parts, damn it.  But I'll still put a nice coffin in a seperate room and pretend it's an official tomb anyway.
well... im sure the dwarf in question wont mind...

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: cancel party attendance?
« on: August 19, 2008, 12:23:51 pm »
It doesn't solve your problem, but you can free the table used to designate your dining room. So long as you have only one table designating the room, you know which one to free. Just free it and redesignate. All the partiers will go back to work.

Don't worry, they'll throw another stupid party in a few minutes.
(lightbulb) did you know:
your dwarves wont party at the table if you dont make it a meeting hall?

I had a migrant group tromp off and reclaim a forest retreat that had been conquered by a demon.

A FOREST RETREAT.

It was a sad day for dwarf kind.
The trees brainwashed them, they should develop a need for sentinent flesh soon... better kill them now.

And if you want your marksdwarves to stay on the tower, lock them there.
This
as things are now marksdwarfs just love to run at their enemies even with ammo still in their quivers
yes... but in my experience they also usually tend to win anyway :)

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Fires
« on: August 18, 2008, 10:00:35 am »
My experience with fire in adventure mode has only ever been with a number of weedy ground fires that never seemed to do anything.

I only ever seem to start these by accident, by apparently picking berries or something equally random. It's some option on the local flora anyway. Is there any other way of starting a longer lived blaze than this?

Also, how on earth do I set fire to objects too? I've seen lots of stories of people throwing burning heads and spears etc at people, and catching themselves on fire in the process.

I've even read about a story where someone was weilding a burn damage sword and setting people alight with that.

setting objects ablaze is done by dropping them on the burning strawberries or whatever, also lighting the ground under a guard wil set him on fire... but he wont get pissed off at you so its a safe way to kill.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Jails versus Chains for JUSTICE
« on: August 18, 2008, 09:51:15 am »
So is there any definitive answer on whether feeding and watering imprisoned/injured dwarves has been fixed in the current version? Because if not, I would think that it's much safer to use chains with nearby stockpiles.
yes they get fed.
i had a dwarf fall asleep on a cage trap and was to lazy to free him... but he still got eat and drink... went beserk eventually... to bad for him but he was nice in the arena.

there is no fun in it in DF they reproduce with spores ... just try to put female in a separate pit, she will reproduce :D
either that, or they are just well hung...
