Actually, you CAN make a wooden matress; just use sawdust.
Using rockshards in a matress, however, would not end well.

Also, for my first reigon, that's not FLOODING the area- That's a water source, fishing, and line of defense, all in one.
It's called a moat.
They're totally awesome.
Unfortunately, that zone doesn't have any trees, which means no beds.

There's nickel in there, as well as gold, but nothing you can really forge weapons and armor out-- No, wait, there's copper, I think!

Well, no.
There's 'it', 'that', and then there's 'that one thing' that I just discovered. It's near the top, this time, and it'll probably make you giddy, especially if you like certain defenses.
Edit: HA HA OOPS.
'That' is not on the bottom floor. It is a mystery to you where it is fo' reals...

UPDATE:
It gets BETTER.
Dig around the very bottom of the map, on the south part, bottom floor, and you might find more goodies!
