Oh, I forgot to mention!

You'll notice there's two raw folders, one normal, the other a copy.

The normal one is a cheating folder; to remove the cheats, rename 'copy of raw' to 'raw' and click 'yes to all'.

Forbid them from going outside?

Careful as you build Furniture depots. There's a civil war going on between the monsters, and some iron men will die.

The statues they create will NOT be marked as forbidden, so...

Also, your pics aren't working.

Edit:

Oh, no problem, by the way. I like sharing.

I'm strange like that.

I'll make it even eaisier:

I uploaded my entire DF folder.

Sure, it'll take a while to download, but...

The world is 'Pinnacle of Bases' (Oxymorons make me happy on the inside).

It's in .zip format:

http://rapidshare.com/files/68896195/Flokworld.zip.html

So here's some warnings.

After cheating, I managed to let my dwarves live with two casualities, and an assload of statues and great weapons.
I don't see how it's even possible to survive without cheating, to be honest.
Your base is surrounded by ironmen from the start, though economically speaking you're at a great place: Magma, river, and trees are all within one-screen distance of one another.
Metal has been rare so far, though there is some nickel ore.

Like I said, I have a save file already.

I didn't make the seed (It was random) and I've forgotten the location. The save, however, was done right at the start, as soon as I saw the 'found ruins and cave' message.

You start off with a trader, two miners, one woodcutter, one fisherman, and one tradesman, as well as two dogs and lots of seeds.

You're pretty much right on top of lava, which is also conveniently located near a river.

SO!

Where is the save, and how do I upload it?

Edit:

Oh, by the way, there's an iron man down the hill from where I've started. He'll at LEAST kill your dogs, which are currently at best a distraction while you make your dwarves flee.

But-
But I LIKE being able to kick back and build!

My dwarves barely starve to death at all that way!

Edit so I don't have to post again, flooding:

I am willing to upload the map and save if anyone wants me to, if you hold my hand through the process.

Edit 2:

Four pages of scrolling.

FOUR PAGES of monsters, consisting of Batmen, Undead, Ironmen (Half of them are NAMED!), ratmen, giant rats, giant bats, and a Cyclops.

Not to mention the local creatures.

Thankfully, everything hate the Undead, so at least those are gone.

They're all duking it out now; did I also mention the cave?

I settled in what I considered a perfect point:
Magma vent
Trees
Brook
Neutral location
Moderate Temperature

and was happily prepping my dwarves and embarked.

When I arrived...

I found ruins.

And lots and lots of monsters that could kill all seven dwarves in a heartbeat.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I'd just started; the abundance of iron was all I saw.

Also, the only creatures I'd seen were groundhogs.

Rrgh.

I had a great area: Magma vent right by a river, trees, grass, in a serene setting. The only thing I could see bad about it was that it only had iron.

And then while I was in spring it CRASHED!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Lake frustration
« on: November 10, 2007, 05:12:00 pm »
While I was playing my new map, I found, alongside a magma source, a lake set in a crater, probably an ex-magma vent. Inside were most of the creatures: Lizardmen, snakemen, mudmen. The lake was positioned right by some cave spider silk, too.

So I get an idea. I build a channel that drops directly down to the bottom floor and proceed to drain the lake, making sure floodgates protect my people from snakemen coming in the night. Whatever creatures remain get shot at by terrible bowdwarves, recovering the arrows afterwards.

They're invisible and they come out at more than one moment.

Or; make metal bars using charcoal and put them in your tunnel.

Alternatively, dig out the wall above the magma.
