DF Modding / Re: Increase Difficulty
« on: May 09, 2009, 11:05:49 pm »
Yeah I've tried a few super projects and I've done the hardest natural occuring locations I've seen. Super projects don't really interest me though, usually I end up giving up half-way through them because I lose interest in them. Thanks for the suggestions though guys I'll definitely try them.

DF Modding / Increase Difficulty
« on: May 09, 2009, 05:26:12 pm »
After having played this game for a long time I'm finding that I can face near every challenge in Fortress Mode. I'm looking for new ways to increase the difficulty of the game. Megabeast encounters always intrigued me, is there a way to make them occur more often and if I increase their stats how high should I increase them? I find that legendary wrestler/axedwarf/shield user/armor users are easy enough to get and just one of them can take down any megabeast in a single swing. Also any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

DF Gameplay Questions / King Consort?
« on: October 30, 2008, 03:56:22 pm »
Hey, so I managed to obtain the king in my fort, however, I was under the impression that he was supposed to come with a consort too. He came with some royal guards and an advisor but no consort. Is there no consort for the king? Does anyone know why I wouldn't get one?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Captive Goblin Army

I ended up with a final army of at least 60 captive goblins but I abandoned the fortress due to its poor layout and the death of many of my dwarves. The goblins kept sieging me and because of my position the goblins could fire on my from above if my dwarves stepped one square out of the entrance. On top of that I had almost no wood left and could not find any coal or lignite. It was a lot of fun while it lasted though.

Thanks for the speedy replies. I think I'll just have my military just battle it out with them. Maybe I'll try some more complicated execution techniques later as my cage traps keep getting reloaded and the goblins keep coming.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Captive Goblin Army
« on: November 19, 2007, 07:37:00 pm »
After catching the goblin leader in a cage trap I decided to set up some cage traps at the areas where sieging goblins usually enter. I now have an army of 5 goblin spearmen, 1 goblin crossbowman, 3 goblin axemen, 6 goblin swordsmen, 1 goblin swordmaster, 5 goblin macemen, 7 goblin pikemen, and 5 goblin bowmen. Now, however, I don't know what to do with the group. I don't have any nasty beasts to pit them against and my military is almost completely knocked out from previous fights so I can't have them fight each other. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do with this vile force of darkness?

I caught the goblin thief leader in a cage trap yesterday too. I ended up having him just fight it out with two war dogs and a pet wolf.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: 2d vs. 3d

I prefer the newer 3D versions myself, I played the 2D version for about a year until the 3D version was released. I just feel like the 3D version has more in it, more things to discover. Although it probably seems intimidating and complex its not hard to navigate the z levels or the menus once you get used to them.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What you like to name your group

A lot of times I just randomize my names until I get something I like, A few times I've named my fortress "The Dark Tower" and the group "The Crimson King." Named after the Stephen King series.

Just imagine the destruction that dwarf could cause if he threw a tantrum.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What are you building?

I built a 4x4 room made of platinum walls, a masterpiece bed, a platinum armor stand, weapon stand, chest, cabinet, and doors. I also filled in the empty spaces with platinum floors. All made from platinum bars.

I started playing Dwarf Fort around December of last year although I didn't play it for the full 11 months. I'd play for a month and then stop for 2 and then start again. So you could say I've been playing for a while now. Even now my forts probably seem horribly inefficient to people who try to work out the "best" designs. I still enjoy the game just as much as anyone though maybe more than others because my fortresses are made by me without the help of guides. Anyways, back on the topic of which version is easier. First off somethings I haven't gotten into such as using power or fertilizing farms. Personally I'd say that I think the newer version is easier but that could be just because I've been playing for so long that I know how to do everything. The biggest benefit I think is the ability to farm in any soil, year-round, without water. I took me a long time to figure out farming in the old version and nile farming didn't occur to me until I has been playing for some time. So for new players farming might be easier to figure out in the new version. I also believe you have a lot more space in the new version because of the Z-levels but I guess that could be confusing to new players. Also in the old version my forts would always seem to fall apart after I had gotten a few nobles. (Although nobles were probably easier to understand in the old version) Now I don't have any problems with them in the new version but again that could be due to my experience with the game. Also being able to start with loads of supplies from ditching the anvil helps. Everyone has their own opinion but I myself find the newer version to be easier.
Sorry if this response is a little lengthy but I have a lot to say and could probably keep going.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Water, Water... nowhere

I tried settling in a sinister, scorching area with no water. I just let my injured dorfs die off but I ended up abandoning the fortress a few years later because my military couldn't grow very much.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Indomitable Dwarf?

I have a legendary wrestler/armor user/shield user/axedwarf in my army. He is fully clad in all adamantine plate with an adamantine axe. None of it being lower than superior quality. How hard would it be to take him down? He took out a bronze colossus in three quick strikes before the colossus could even move. He also helped take down a dragon and a hydra before he became my adamantine warrior. I just thought I'd share my accomplishment with everyone. Imagine what would happen if he threw a tantrum...
