In adventurer mode, will wounds heal after waiting/sleeping for 8~ hours still, or will we be forced/able to visit a doctor for proper treatment?
Currently, the only way to heal certain injuries is to be bitten by a were-beast and wait to transform, and that is a bit too... strange, in my opinion.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Why Dwarves Migrate to Dangerous Locales

Meta. I approve.

Why can't we export dwarves (yet)?

I'm pretty sure that tags could be added here and there in the raws to lets you sell some dwarves away. Then again, I might be wrong

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What type of DF player you are?
« on: August 14, 2013, 09:36:45 am »
For how my play style is,  I usually embark with a means of attaining wealth in mind. Depending on which dwarf is more suited for what, I may embark with the idea of breeding creatures from the caverns to sell, creating a textile industry, or making my profit from selling metal equipment.

However, as I have come to discover, this usually ends up never working, for the location I desire for resources, creatures, elevation, etc. tends to be haunted or terrifying. (I enjoy having most of my worlds be evil) I never embark on aquifers, simply I do not have the right mindset for dealing with them.

I haven't ever hit FPS death, when does that usually occur for you fellows? I'm currently at year 14 at my fortress and all is good, with 231 dwarves.

I guess this is a weird bug I'm trying to find a (relatively) non-violent solution to.

Well that's not very dwarven, now is it? If anything, you should be designing a ☼Machine☼ that utilizes this. You're getting free bodies to do with however you choose! This is a gift straight from Armok!

Would it be too much to ask for a download?

I need to see use this!

How unhappy does this cause the parents to be? It would be best if you could get it to sadden them to the point where their next child miscarriages, but then I suppose you have to worry about them !Melancholy!

Shouldn't be a problem for dwarves who "Don't care about anything anymore"

Been there, done it, still grinds FPS down because they're flailing around trying to run outside. Seem to be pretty standard procedure using either bridge or fleet-feet masons in succession fortresses I've seen, too.

That would be a lot more effective than what I do, sealing in a peasant with a pick  ???, I should try a version where everyone lives but that wouldn't be a proper offering to the blood god, now would it?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / A rather fitting name (Triple Coincidence)
« on: August 10, 2013, 05:42:17 pm »
So, I was letting my marksdwarves practice on some pitted goblins, when my elite marksdwarf, Dakost Fairroughness the Granite Sewers the dwarf, decided it was time to name his crossbow. Well, all I can say is that the name of his crossbow, lines up nicely with his acquired name...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Quite possibly the best part is, though, that this is not just a ≡two part coincidence≡, no.

Look at that forgotten beast's name. Oh dear...

This is a !!☼Three Part Coincidence☼!!

Anyone able to top that?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Demon Companion
« on: August 08, 2013, 10:41:18 pm »
He he, i was the one that had a demon mummy. Note that if you want one, you have to mod the files to allow the goblins to make
tombs. The  Demons that rule human civs rarely die, but the goblin ones are murdered quite often, so is not so hard to find a mumified one.
Then you just need to vamp/husk yourself and go talk with him.

Go husk yourself!

What you should do is upload your save so others may join in on the fun.

As for advice, sneak and throw sharp rocks from the shadows and make your way to town, maybe later get bit by a werebeast and heal yourself.

Can you upload a save file?

And is the civilization you are currently playing as at war with the hippies?

Cheers

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How to burn prisoners?

You may want to create a magma-safe floor grate and place it in a hole 3z level down with no slope up, with a hatch over the floor. Next, dig a channel in the z level above for magma and contain it with a magma-safe door operated my mechanisms via a lever on the above platform. The empty space below the floor grate would go back to your magma resevoir. Designate a pit over the trapdoor to throw the goblin down Ex:

+ = floor
D = Door
L = Lever
G = Grate
X = Wall
H = Hatch
. = Empty Space
M = Magma

Top Layer

+++++
++HL+
+++++

Next Layer (-1z)

XXXXX
MD.XX
XXXXX

Next Layer (-2z)

XXXXX
XX. XX
XXXXX

Next Layer (-3z)

XXXXX
XXGXX
XXXXX

Below this, the space underneath the grate goes back to magma pool.
Note, you will want a dwarf to pull the lever twice, relatively soon after each other so that the magma only pours a little bit at a time.
Hope this helps, cheers.

DF General Discussion / Re: General tips for making a military
« on: August 08, 2013, 03:51:14 pm »
The quality of armor and weaponry makes all the difference, not to mention the materials.
In best circumstances, you can have a squad of axedwarves (or what have you otherwise) with masterwork steel armor and weapons, or candy, if you have it. When you have a squad of dwarves clad in such good armor, they will be able to withstand so much of a beating that their skill levels won't matter, to an extent.

Also, find a good medium with traps and troops. Especially early on when you don't have great smiths or access to good metal, you'll certainly want to invest in a good trap defense. Really good defenses can be the means from losing your fort from a pesky kobold thief and unlucky tantrum spiral from a stab to the head, to surviving for decades without, or with little, incident. Plus, traps are incredibly fun, and sometimes !!FUN!!, to build, and use on unsuspecting goblins.
