Mafia / Re: BYOR 15: Day 1 - The Badge Seller
« on: January 13, 2021, 03:56:21 am »
For the record, here are the moments where I pretty much locked my lynch choices.

I don't know how masons are classified in Webadict's games.
Why would it be any different? It's not webadict classifying anything, it's me and 4maskwolf looking at our alignment and ability to talk to each other and saying "we're masons."

Or do you suspect there's more to BYOR masons than the standard variety? Of course there is, but asking for the details of that would be what I'd call rolefishing.
I just couldn't think of a reason why town would ever ask the GM for a definition on one of a player's words, that the player had already defined. Scum, however, get to change the subject to a distracting minutia, and have a chance of getting the town to volunteer information in trying to explain themselves further. ToonyMan later explained that this was to ascertain the mason claim as true, which made to me about as much as sense as this:
Quote
Alice: "I claim to have turned the sky green."
Bob: "Moderator! What colour is the sky usually?"
Alice: "Why does that matter? It's green now."
Bob: "I just want to be sure."
While there is cleverness in questioning the unspoken background behind the claim, it does nothing to address the claim itself. In this example, a truth-seeking player should be asking "what colour is the sky now?", a specific case rather than the general. I'll also admit that at the time of the discussion, it felt to me even worse than it was:
Quote
Alice: "I claim to have turned the sky green."
Bob: "Moderator! What is green?"

IcyTea:
Anyway, I'm 99% sure that flip is fake and we'll see the real of the flip whenever IcyTea dies.
Death millers are a bastard mechanic. In a non-bastard game, roleflips never contain false information (though parts may be obscured, as with Toony's first flip).

Sure, but we've already seen a flip-hiding role out of Juicebox.   4mask having a fake flip that reveals as true when you die is totally within the bounds of plausibility.
Calling the mod a bastard instead of suspecting one of the standard investigation-screwing abilities is beyond me. The power of masons is to be able to confirm each other, especially in death, so going straight for a lynch on the other when one gets daykilled is just not something I can ever see town doing. Toaster hadn't played particularly offensively before this, and didn't develop this point afterwards (going on the self-presevation), so it seemed further like a case to have the town waste the lynch.
There was also the contradiction in including in a case the point that 4mask's role had nothing about masons, even though he claimed to have seen the ability which created the masonry:
Everything I've done of interest I've claimed; I used the rolecop on IcyTea with the modifier to pick up his alignment.  I saw the ability that makes him a mason and the rolename that makes him the second hydra head (specifically stating that 4mask was the hydra.)
I mean, it's pretty simple.  Look at what is missing; anything referencing the IcyTea-4mask connection in 4mask's "flip."  Do you really find it plausible that all of that information is in IcyTea's role?
You seem to be in a superposition of believing the description of the ability I showed, and not believing it. Quantum bad faith?

To be honest, I don't think these would have been terrible cases in a less tiresome game, but looking at them now, I was lacking empathy to how people were complaining about the game being difficult to read (since I was on vacation and spent literal hours on keeping up with the game). My biggest mistake was that I assumed malice where there was exhaustion.

I'm thinking, you could ask Toady to give Mamobo moderator permissions. Then it would be able to lock any approved thread once we reached enough votes for a hammer or shorten.
That would equate giving webadict moderator permissions. Probably better to just have Mamobo create the thread so it can lock it.

303
I don't believe line breaks can be included in usernames, so how about that as the separator? If you do that, you can also solve points 2 and 3 by requiring players to post their votes on their own lines separate from the rest of the post as well.

e.g.

and Bob and Charlie are your buddies.

"...Yes."

Gaspar had been very thoughtful ever since since destroying the skeletons, speaking little. This world had a...different view on death. Blasphemous, even. This was a powerful civilization, too, one which would not do to be Zorestria's enemy. So he had withheld judgment, kept his mouth shut and focused on the mission. But now, the mission was much simpler: a single person took the Orb. A person who, if Sister Dusk is to be believed (which is a matter to consider), has no kind plans in mind. And if what Sister Dusk does this temple does is "kind" plans...

"Yes, let's find her. I fear she might-"

"Actually, leave it at that. I fear."

Went back and checked, and that would be the Fast Hatter Badge. Bought with my pons, spent on the Hide. X-shot items are discarded when they run out of shots, so I won't have it in my flip either.

Also, Vector, just sent in an action to give you an extra action tonight.

It was in 4mask's joint claim, but I was given the ability to do that D1, presumably through Luckyowl's day action.

Ok, fine. So in full your claim is: masons with 4mask and you share the JoaT abilities and you have the weird thing where you resurrect twice if you die, but if he dies you die?
If I'm killed, I resurrect twice. It was actually my first question about Toony's contract, but the option was "die", not "be killed". Otherwise yes, that's my claim.

Do you know how 4mask had your alignment confirmed to them?
Both of our role PMs were posted in full in the quicktopic.

IcyTea: I meant a full claim involving rolenames, if that wasn't clear. You've partially claimed, in different places, without giving a rolename: if you're sure you're going to die, would be nice to know what it is. Might even clear up some of the stuff involving this "Hydraform" thing, confirm or indict LuckyOwl even.
No. We already know how much power role and ability names have in this game. Unless there's a good reason for you to know those in particular, all you need to know is what my abilities do. As for Luckyowl's thing: Yes, I do have an ability with the word "hydra" in its name. No, it's not named "Hydraform".

IcyTea isn't even voting Toaster.
I definitely should be. I checked, and I didn't unvote. Toaster

IcyTea: As I understand it, you're dead tonight. Fancy claiming?
Let's see how big this quote pyramid has to grow until people believe, if not the claim itself, that I've claimed at all.
Quote
Why hasn't ICT already claimed? If he's going to die tonight he should surely share all the knowledge he has.
Because you're not reading the thread?
IcyTea and I, collectively, are a Super-JOAT.
That's the part with the hydra

Also like to note that the stuff about "Hydraform" still seems not to be sorted out, to me.
No ability by that name. I have two abilities under different names that make me like a hydra, but apparently Luckyowl didn't use an actual role-inspect:
LuckyOwl:  What can you tell us about this Hydraform?

Not much really. Webadict attached this weird flavor text saying something like. "Woah IcyTea31 has how many heads?"

Everything I've done of interest I've claimed; I used the rolecop on IcyTea with the modifier to pick up his alignment.  I saw the ability that makes him a mason and the rolename that makes him the second hydra head (specifically stating that 4mask was the hydra.)

I'm not playing my best right now, at all, but there's something that sits poorly with me that I want to address: namely that when 4mask flipped, their role didn't actually contain any information about being masons, hydra head #2, etc. To me, this implies that 4mask was not originally part of this hydra thing, or something like that; that the chat was created as part of a targeted action.
In a way, yes. The ability was an auto that triggered at the start of game, specifically targeting 4maskwolf  (whom I had named in the role name pre-game).

Quote
I don't feel ICT's case had particular merit at that time (it was a lot of WoTing about a point that I still don't understand, to implicate Toony as scum).
I'm starting to get frustrated about people not reading my posts.

Quote
Now ICT is going to be the front of lynching our second claimed cop, without anyone claiming the redirect? This is fishy. Personally, I haven't seen a single clear scum read on Toaster so far this game.

Something else to pay attention to: No one has claimed a redirect on Toaster. That means that if Toaster isn't lying and ICT isn't scum, the redirect would presumably be given by the scumteam.

If we lynch Toaster and Toaster is town, and ICT auto-dies and flips town, scum plays in LYLO by accusing a town player with an unverifiable night action of the redirect.
Why are you talking about a redirect in a situation where even I can confirm the role-inspect correctly picked up part of my role? If scum shenanigans happened and Toaster is somehow, somehow town, it was a framer action, not a redirect.

Quote
Let's also consider the following. If Toaster ISN'T scum AND wasn't redirected, and ICT is scum, the two people who end up under "automatic" suspicion when ICT flips are myself and NQT. Conveniently, NQT was one of the big lynch candidates yesterday; and conveniently, I'm an adequately strong player (or at least have played a lot of games) who usually comes off slightly scummy.
The exact reason we picked you and NQT to inspect was that your alignments were uncertain to us (and the watch on you because I supposed that if town, you had drawn a lot of scum attention).

Given that IcyTea is the #2 head, I assumed it'd be wiser to hit the main body first.
I don't have any actual confirmation of that, but with 4mask claiming as such, I was only ever more sure.
Again, I don't have any actual confirmation of that, so I still say we lynch IcyTea to be sure.
If you're town, this is possibly the stupidest line of thought I've ever seen in a Mafia game. First off, you believe in the possibility of getting a double-lynch. Second, you believe in a flipped townie's claim. Third, you suddenly don't believe in either and decide to waste the actual lynch. Total town casualties: 4 (both masons, yourself, and the nightkill since the lynch was wasted).

Quote
How would Vector be mechanically confirmed?
4maskwolf copied an alignment inspect and a watch on Vector. Returned town and being visited by you, NJW2000 and a third person whom I'd really like to claim their action.

- Why doesn't 4mask's flip mention being a mason at all?
Because the mason part works as an auto ability in my role.
