DF General Discussion / Re: What Would Urist Do?

Start causing Unfortunate Accidents to the cats. This, however, is too slow of a way to exterminate them and the fort falls to a catsplosion.

WWUD if an Unfortunate Accident was heading his way?

>Speak: Equos, we need to work together to prevent the destruction of this universe and ourselves. If this gets to the point where we put all our power to fighting each other, the Blank devours us. We must create, not destroy. Trust me. I am logic itself.

((Also, what exactly happened with my command to define Love? The post noted that Equos prevented it by adding to his definition, but in The List, his definition is unchanged, still speaking of a "loving relationship", yet Love remains undefined. Also, technically, we could just define Equos as non-existent, but that would be horribly anticlimatic.))

No love to the emotionally sensitive?
No. Especially as emotions aren't defined yet, so crying our eyes out would simply look like a random emission of energy.

what are we going to do about conflicting posts?

I have a solution. An extremely fourth wall breaking one. Please tell me if I left any loopholes in or if there is a problem. Yes, this is the system used in most suggestion games, though less vaguely defined.

>Define The Forums: An abstract system used by the voices in entities' heads, users, to communicate with each other.
>Define The Voting Pool: A system contained within the Forums, used to get the users to an agreement by collecting votes in the form of "pluses" and "minuses", represented by "+1" and "-1", respectively, for each command given. Each user can only give one plus or minus per command, and is assumed to give a plus to their own command unless he or she decides otherwise. An user may to abstain from voting on a command, if he or she so decides. The commands are carried out in order starting with the one that gained the highest popularity, when popularity=(Amount of pluses)-(Amount of minuses). After the first command is carried out, the second one is, unless it conflicts with the first one, in which case it will be rejected. Progression will then carry on in the same way, until all commands are either carried out or rejected. If a command's popularity is lesser than or equal to 0, it will be rejected. The user "RadtheCad" holds a full veto privilege to reject commands.

-1 to crying our eyes out, abstain from others. (Except the automatic +1 to mine.)

EDIT: >Continue definition of The Voting Pool: If two or more commands gain the exact same popularity, they are carried out in the order decided by the user "RadtheCad" to make the most sense.

We should work on improving our relation with Equos Fratre; A godly conflict is the last thing we want, as those tend to destroy universes.

>Add to definiton of Love: A relationship between two or more entities, driving them to protect each other from the dangers of the world. Entities in a loving relationship generally do not seek conflict between one another.

9171
((Time to break the fourth wall and go meta.))

>Define The List: A system containing the definitions of all currently defined objects and concepts. It can be accessed and viewed at any time by gods. When spoken of, "The" must be added to the beginning of the word to prevent confusion with any other objects or concepts defined as lists.

>Define Property: A concept included in the form of an object.
>Define Energy: A property of matter, of which a certain amount is required for non-god objects to interact with each other. Larger scale interactions require more energy, and smaller scale interactions less. Through interaction, energy may be transferred between objects.
>Define Movement: An interaction to change an object's dimensional values.
>Define Kinetic Energy: A form of energy inciting movement to an object.
>Define Adjective: A concept used to define some of the form of an object.
>Define Fast: An adjective for an object affected by a large amount of kinetic energy.
>Define Slow: An adjective for an object not affected by a large amount of kinetic energy.
>Define Temperature: A form of energy contained within an object through rapid movements canceling each other.
>Define Hot: An adjective for an object with a high temperature value.
>Define Cold: An adjective for an object without a high temperature value.

((Basic thermodynamics. Are we allowed to use Boolean logic to allow definitions with exceptions et cetera?))

I'm in, assuming The Computer accepts my application.

To destroy them you have to decapitate, bisect or atomsmash them or encase them in ice or obsidian. All of those have their risks, so choose wisely.

Try to go milk the scorpions, but get attacked by an unholy cross of a GCS and a carp, dodging it into a river, where he'd melt due to necrosis.

WWUD if each creature currently in the fort at the time would (exponentially) double in size each month?

Grab a crossbow, bolts and an axe and go murder every single clown in the circus using his ridiculous speed to his advantage.

What would Urist McDoomguy do if the weapons he picked turned out to be made of featherwood and he had already entered the circus?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Artifact Zinc Breastplate?
« on: October 01, 2013, 03:12:55 am »
"Useful" is subjective. While it makes poor armour you could appoint a noble to a single-dwarf squad with that breastplate as the uniform; the noble will get a massive happiness boost.

This does assume, of course, that you care about your nobles' happiness.

1995: You don't buy a dog to guard your house. You buy a horse, camel or some other hooved animal.

Wait, why? Are hooved guard animals better at fighting or something?

Hooves pierce most armour due to their minuscule contact area. In the Adventurer Mode Discussion part of the forum there are so many stories of aspiring adventurers being brained by a single hoof through their +steel helm+.

2006: Was a great year.

2007: You immediately realized why 2006 was so great.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

2008: You get a visit from the cops after your neighbours see you growing "strange purple mushrooms" in your garage.
2008.1: You had set up cage traps in case of a siege, and catch the cops.
2008.2: You just leave the caged cops in your stockpile because "they don't need to eat or drink, and I can sell them to traders later".

2009: You get in a traffic accident because you were NOT driving under influence.

2010: You Dig Too Deep when you try to find your socks at the bottom of the drawer.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: 2 Questions about Retiring and Camps
« on: August 30, 2013, 07:06:16 am »
You can get an adventurer into fortress mode by retiring him/her in a mountain halls site of a civilization that he/she is not an enemy of, then creating a fortress of that civilization and hoping they migrate. There are no race limitations. If your adventurer is a night creature, then he/she will be one too in fortress mode, with usual effects, except a necromancer is friendly. (His/her zombies are not, though.)

As far as I know, you can't increase the amounts of camps, only their maximum number, since they are created during history simulation, not during the worldgen itself. Older worlds, however, generally have more sites of all types.

Try to go and sell it at the depot, but be slowed by the weight of it and the copies to a crawl.

WWUD if he had a thousand Sis and increasing, but was tasked to take them to a trade depot a hundred tiles away?

EDIT: For the unenlightened: The Si is an artifact in ADOM that has no general use, but multiplies itself exponentially while carried.
