I want a procedurally generated hunting game where you can travel between different environments and shoot stuff, with the most detail being put into animal variety. Lots of species is good, but I'm talking variants (Indian and African elephants are different!) as well as different colored fur, body sizes and everything. After you kill something you can sell the meat or craft equipment of the leather to show off your achievements. Could have some multiplayer stuff, competitive hunting and such.

Doesn't even need great graphics, I'd still play it if it was 2D topdown perspective, possibly even in ASCII if it manages to convey the feeling of variety.

The bots have really poor AI. If a bot is chasing you with full health and you're almost dead, all you have to do is turn around and auto-attack once and they'll run away. I just don't get it.

Well I'm finally ready to move on from Co-op vs AI matches now and actually solo queue normal matches.

Wait, what? You mean to say you've only played Co-op from level 1 to 30? Or am I misunderstanding?  :o

Oh, I see. I'm pretty sure the word coastline is only used for seashores, though, could just be my horrible vocabulary.

Why is there "coastline" in the middle of the world map? ??? I may be misunderstanding but I don't think that's how it works. :P

IMHO they need to make a pokemon roguelike that plays something like the battle pyramid in pokemon emerald.

Alternatively, Froguer. The frogger roguelike.

The Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games are roguelikes, I believe. At least they play very similarly to roguelikes, I'm sure lots of people would disagree. :P

I figured it was something about the braces, it's hard to get used to a new language. :-[

Levi, according to my reference it doesn't make a difference if you use = 0 or (0).

Trying to learn C++, started today. I feel I understand the very basics, but I'm having trouble with while loops. The loop doesn't stop even if the player inputs a valid race. I'm not going for efficiency here, I just want to know where I made an error. :P

Code: [Select]
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <sstream>

using namespace std;

string Name;
string Race;
string Class;

int main ()
{
cout << "Welcome to GenericQuest!\n";
cout << "What is your name?\n";
getline (cin, Name);
cout << "What race are you?\n";
int Confirm(0);
while (Confirm==0)
getline (cin, Race);
if (Race == "Human")
Confirm = 1;
else if (Race == "Elf")
Confirm = 1;
else if (Race == "Dwarf")
Confirm = 1;

cout << "What class are you?\n";
getline (cin, Class);
cout << "You are the " << Race << " " << Class << " " << Name << "!\n";
system("PAUSE");
return 0;
}

Got to mom's heart, got it down to 1/3rd health.

Those fucking laser eyeballs!

Binding of isaac.

But the heart soars into the ceiling and only comes down when the eyeballs are dead, does it not? Surely it was something else that killed you. ???

I'd love to play this game. Problem is I never played the first Cataclysm and have absolutely no idea how to. Halp.

As for tiles, it should be very quick work if you rush it. Most people who don't like ASCII would probably prefer really bad pixel art to ASCII, so you could basically slap some dark green on a canvas and call it grass, a single generic gun icon should work for all firearms, etc.

Of course, it's just that with no knowledge of the language it's rather difficult to figure out what I need to learn to be able to actually do something. The list you posted obviously means that's not an issue, though, so thanks. 8)

I sort of want to learn C++ some time, but I feel all books and online tutorials assume you're already a programmer in some language. The only language I'm comfortable with is BYOND (which is simpler than even Game Maker.)

So does anyone know of any good resources for developing stuff in C++? Something that doesn't think I know what a thread or an array is, because I don't. :( PacmanRL will become reality. :P

Other Games / Hydra Slayer
« on: February 05, 2013, 09:30:13 am »
Anyone else think this game is fun despite being so simple? It feels like I'm playing Minesweeper - even though the gameplay itself has little variation I don't get bored. Well, not for the first couple of games, anyway.

For those unaware, Hydra Slayer is a "puzzle roguelike" in which you control an adventurer who, uh, slays hydras. That's pretty much it. There's more to it, but the tutorial honestly does a better job explaining the puzzle elements.

Here's the Hydra Slayer entry on Roguetemple, which has the download link, and here's a good let's play of it if you suck at puzzle games but like watching other people suck at them.

The game is rather shallow at the moment. By that I mean that the gameplay is basically press A then hope the RNG gods bless you. You might want to introduce a stat system that makes an impact, or something along those lines - pretty standard in modern games. Additionally the text of the game is sort of a pain to read since it's mostly white and crammed together, you could color code it a bit more, I think.

Other than that, it's decent enough. A good foundation.

NOTE: Getting on the wrong side of your demographic isn't a good idea - they're the ones you want to play the game. :P
