A bismuth bronze low boot. It menaces with spikes of donkey bone.

Very scary.

First fort that hasn't died instantly in months, yay! Just exceeded 50 dwarves population, expanding at the speed of light with three legendary miners and a legendary engraver. Haven't had any ambushes, just a couple of kobold thieves, which is honestly not a bad thing considering my military thinks dabbling is good enough.

I made the fortress right on the coast, the waves are washing up against the entrance - might provide some defense against potential enemies. :P

I personally like the guild name. :P "Knights of the Blood Oath" doesn't sound nearly as intimidating.

It's been stuck saying "Connect" for roughly 10 minutes now. Hopefully this isn't a lasting issue.

Ugh. That's a pretty long maintenance for release day. :P

Does anyone know when the game gets back online?

I'm planning on try this game out, any advice for a new player?

Always aim for the head. Harm intent punch to the face has a very high chance of knocking someone down. Very useful if you get assaulted by an antagonist.

Well, a solution could be portals that teleport you to a random spot within whatever leveling zone you want to go to. Not as fun, but it certainly makes camping harder.

It's not the permadeath that would keep me away, it's the open PvP. MMOs have taught me that this means a max level character will sit smack dab in the center of the newbie area killing everything that moves for the lulz.

Surely there's some sort of safe zone. This looks looks like a well developed game, I can't imagine they'd release it with such a bad design quirk.

What do you guys think about NoX Station?
Great server, terrible admins. They don't let you play freely (security officers can't hit/bucklecuff prisoners, murdering is only for antagonists, etc)

Uh... that's the standard on the vast majority of servers. Why would you murder anyone if you're not an antagonist? The point of the game is to run a space station, killing your colleagues can't possibly help with that. Likewise with the security stuff, hitting and bucklecuffing is just abuse. All those things go under "grief" which has never been allowed, maybe except on a few small servers.

I doubt they're PCs, that would be ridiculous. Imagine playing WoW and having your corpse camped on both sides of limbo, oh god.

Pretty ballsy of whoever the developers are to make the game permadeath. That's a rather controversial mechanic in modern games, after all - I know many people who wouldn't play a permadeath game, not wanting to lose their precious character.

Surely there must be a few here who're interested. If we can gather ~20 people for a game as obscure as Slavehack we can do it for DayZ, too.

Hmm. I guess a private server would be pretty cool, although it would probably be pretty boring with just a few people.  :-\ If we could get a decent amount of trusted players it might be fun.

Cool to hear the standalone might be coming out within the next eternity, though.
