Overseer's diary 1st Hematite;
Everything seems to be going well so far. I haven't hit any new veins of iron through exploratory mining yet, however the first and second caverns are a 100% walled off. Once the third cavern has completely been sealed off I may develop plans for an bridged entrance to the second cavern for silk collection purposes, as it would be easy enough for a farming development in there. Some more Galena veins have been found and there is olivine stone now available for any colour coding ambitions. I've collected some of the forbidden cages and started a taming project to handle the caught animals. I also filtered out the new animal stockpile to provide a closed door holding area next to the "live target" archery range specifically for goblins.
I've placed a cage inside the depot area to dump the nuisance puppies (all of them) in till they've grown enough for proper handling. I've culled a couple stray breeders to prevent a population explosion and trained a few more war dogs to wander around. I haven't yet seen what the elves have in stock, but I assume I will be able to buy what I need with the goods available. The Ashery and Dyer's shop has been built, however I'm still waiting on the soap maker's workshop to finish. There has been a slight increase in the number of brewed drinks stockpile. There hasn't been much difference to the fortress look so far. Well aside from a mess that will be closed off once the ore has been removed.
Oh and Kulet Stinthadlikot had Become a child on the 15th of Felsite. No new births have occurred though I will ensure there is a major holiday after the Human caravan has left, provided there is no Gobbo/Kobbo interruptions.
Note: There hasn't been much of a slow down yet. FPS went about as high as 38 when most of the dorfs were on break/eating/drinking/sleeping which was almost nice. More will be posted tomorrow.

It seems the clothiers and jewellers are meant to have their own stockpiles for encrusting/adding details to objects of sufficient quality.
Skipping a merely mined out level where some ore is stored brings us to the magma forges, and the beauty that comes from such a place.
Strange that during my short military career that I didn't notice the "live" range near the mausoleums before.
Not that I have much to do-maybe I should stick with a military career once I can get away with passing off the duty of being an overseer.
