serious sam?

That game wasn't awesome.  :P

IMO it was... in a special way.

On the main subject...
If you don't mind old graphic (I don't), try warhammer: Shadow of the Horned rat or warhammer: Dark Omen. I remember how it feels to send those Orc Boyz running with charging Ceridan... and I remember how it feels when one damned charriot routs all my coolest cavalery.

I was asking for a God for my Merfolk Crusader, but I decided I would forgo waiting for an answer and simply experiment with Makhleb, who I've never worshiped.
Heh... Makhleb is a really cool god - easy to gain piety (accepts killing almost anything and sacrificing corpses), gives ability  to summon '1' demons. Very useful for speedruns... until you summon a hostile Executioner, that is. But don't worry, it happens quite rarely - only in the most important moments  ;)

Haha.

I just found the +0, +12 Glaive of Prune in a shop.
15 damage, -3 to hit.
I once found it in some vault... but i wasn't using spears so I just threw it in my stash.

I've also seen the Staff of Wucad Mu in a shop.
I found it in one of Pandemonium levels, even escaped with it for higher score

Am I missing something?  I have only had one char get to level 7 (troll fighter i think) and then quickly died on level 6 of the dungeon.  ??

First, read some basic advices in CrawlWiki http://www.chaosforge.org/crawl/index.php?title=CrawlWiki.  (But be careful if you don't want to read spoilers)

Second, play carefully, try to keep control over the situation. Learn when to run and when to fight.

Third, practice makes perfect.

Tough luck! please accept my condolences...

In my last successful game I left Kiku for Makhleb, because it became almost impossible to keep Kiku's piety high... then I had a very similar situation (torment, fiends, more torment, more fiends, 15 HP, Kiku summons 10 reapers)... But I was lucky enough to blink away.

a - the +9,+9 Blessed Blade (weapon)
(The Shining One gifted it to you in the Ecumenical Temple)
It has been blessed by the Shining One to cause great damage to the undead
and the unholy creatures of Hell or Pandemonium.

Mmmm... a weapon of my dream. I always take long blades as my main weapon skill only because I hope to find katana. But I never found it. Very rare thing.

Though that +7,+8 blessed eudemon blade of holy wrath I took from an angel in Abyss (originally it was +3, +2) sliced through demons quite well too.

Yeah, but it often recurses itself upon wielding, so it can be a problem to keep it unwielded. But anyway, for now there is a plenty of food for kobold, and when there will be no more branches with creatures to feed on(near midgame), vampiric draining will become a lot less useful anyway, so I will just drop that sword in my stash (I hope to find some more appropriate weapon).
If I won't die some stupid death by that time, that is.

Wow! I just found a cool fixeart in a labyrinth:

+13, +4 demon blade "Leech"
runed demon blade Cursed
One in 4 chances of recursing itself on re-equip
Vampiric Draining
-1 Armor class
-1 Evasion
-1 Strength
-1 Intelligence
-1 Dexterity
Life Protection

That's the first useful fixedart I've ever found.

Plus +2,+2 ring of slaying, plus 0,+7 ring of slaying. That gives quite high damage and acurracy

Well, I never tried to play as a summoner, but I think it is the same with any magic school. In every game, I try to get at least a few levels of Enchantments skill and learn a Selective Amnesia (it lets you forget spells) spell asap. It is very useful if you want to experiment with new spells and it doesn't spend any spell levels.

P.S. Anyway, Enchantments skill is quite useful to any character, because it raises magic resistance.

Yeah, I know what it's like.
My Kobold Warper died when I least expected. Paralysed and reduced from full hp to nothing in a few turns by a vampire knight. There was absolutely nothing I could do to save him.

Slain by an orange rat (8 damage)
... on Level 5 of the Crypt on Apr 9, 2009.
The game lasted 21:42:02 (121327 turns).

You ran into both a shadow dragon and a titan on level 16?

That's harsh.
Yeah, this time translocations saved my life (although I still think it is the most useless school of magic).
I'm still not ready to go back there... cleaning upper levels and easy branches.

Reminds me of my fatal encounter as a hill orc stalker who ran into Frederick, Francis AND Boris, all on Snake:4. Francis was on his own, and swiftly defeated, but Frederick and Boris were apparently shooting the breeze before my character wandered into them.

Running into two higher mages (bolt of iron! crystal spear!) at the same time is not fun. Partially my own fault for dying though - I thought I could take them with a berserk . Took out Frederick (and actually gained a level from it), then ate an orb of energy from Boris.

Boris... that lich killed a few of my promissing chars. And I hate it when he reapears after being killed.
Iron bolts, crystall spears and energy orbs are quite dangerous, but they can be completely blocked with shield. The next best thing is to cast silence (cool spell). Then you can check who is better melee fighter.

Btw, I'm in the Snake Pits lvl4 right now)

EDIT: At last I got my revenge on Dungeon:16 - both that Titan (he was guarding the Vaults entrance) and Shadow Dragon are dead.
