DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / How will our fortress affect the world?
« on: April 09, 2014, 08:57:22 am »
Talking about upcoming version.

So the world keeps running as we play, and caravans visit towns and bring items from there.
Is our trade going to affect their growth for example? Exporting lots and lots of food and other goods would increase their size? Becoming dwarf capital causes new dorf settlements to be built around?

Can we kill enought elves to drive them extinct?

I use dorfs covered in steel.

I kept digging my borehole i reached the floor of the second cavern.
I dig the floors and then collapse them, easier, faster and safer than channeling each layer.

Just as i finish setting the thing up a fogotten beast appears. A flying spider. How lucky it shows up just in time!

Assign everyone to a small burrow around the lever via civ alert. As soon as the damn beach flies under one of the floors BAM!

That was pure win.

Lost like two or three dozen dorfs, but my borehole has passed the first cavern layer, im digging to the second now.

Its going slow, almost all my miners died to the channel under each other feet dwarven prank while i was doing a controlled cave in on the second cavern.

Most of my miners are newbs now.

Forgotten beast attacked. A giant feathered spider with wings. It didnt fly, but it certainly had webs.

I lost my spearmaster.

He will receive a golden sarcophagus.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Unmovable corpses
« on: April 08, 2014, 03:22:16 am »
Apparently the problem was that at some point the graveyards were full, and since there were some ghosts flying arond because of dorfs that fell to the caves and such unrecoverable corpses, i mass produced slabs for everyone who wasnt entombed. When i made the tombs they didnt move the bodies because they thought the memorial was enough.

I had to assign graves manually for them.

There are 2corpses that noody is moving. There is a corpse stockpile available and i have seen them use it with a dorf that died after the unmovable bodies. The bodies are not forbidden.

Some details: the first was a berzerkering dorf who was put down by the military, the second a dorf that died in a hospital bed (without message).

You cant engrave constructed floors, but since you have !!*Magma*!! you can cast obsidian walls.

Migrants ambushed by a squad of goblin spearmen. Send out the defence squad to protect the trader lingering at the edge of the map. They run into a squad of lashers. One casualty. A speardwarf who got his left wrist bone chipped and dropped his shield. You'd think that would be the part of the body least likely to get hit, wouldn't you? But though he's in extreme pain he should survive with medical attention, so I make sure to remove all other labours on my medical chief and then go back to watching the battle. Halfway through the after-combat cleanup, I check on Chippy McSpear. He's been brought to bed, but the medical chief is on break. I sigh, and reactivate CMD's hauling duties and go to deactivate hauling on his deputy. Deputy is also on break.

Activate medical jobs on everyone. It will take them a while to get them done if they are dabbling, but they perform surgery just as well.
However you may get infections if they take to long, but then again its still faster than waiting for those lazy doctors to decide hauling their asses over to the hospital.

I dont think being a vampire affects engraving. It would be hilarious if they made depictions of their murders while they still insist it was catten mccheese doing.

I thought dropping 5 floors over the heads of the nobles would destroy the bodies, but it didnt.

On unrelated news my borehole has reached the bottom of the first cavern layer. Since it has water i'll have to wait for it to freeze to keep digging.

Coward goblins siege.

Send my military.

10 soldiers with melee weapons, full masterwork. Armor of steel, and weapons of steel/silver.

10 marksdwarves. Full steel armor, although not all masterwork. The captain has an artifact crossbow. Silver bolts.

My best two melee dwarves rush ahead, since they are faster. They aproach the speargobbos and i facepalm. "Why are you attacking alone you dumbasses?"
But Oden would not call them this day to Valhalla. For some reason the gobbos got scared, probably because of how fucking badass my dorfs are.

Didnt get to kill all the goblins (~70 with mouts and trolls), but my soldiers didnt take a scratch.

I see the digging enemies as an incentive to have a military/creative traps.

The military way would be to seal up just to buy some time for the military to get ready, and the lowering the bridge.

Developping new tactics would be a must. Has anyone tried motti tactics yet?
