DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Year 9, still no goblin siege
« on: December 18, 2015, 08:45:38 am »
I've always been sieged with pops lower than 80. Now I have a 100+ pop, fort worth 3mil and only had one siege of goblin bowmen who ran away after 2 or 3 of them died to traps.

And strangely, there was a goblin snatcher and a human snatcher with the siege.
By 'always' do you mean, in this version (or miraculously in 40.x)?
Earlier versions had loads of ambushes/sieges so aren't really relevant. Neither are zombies.

While plentiful sieges are a welcome sight, with no trade/wealth triggers goblins shouldn't theoretically be sieging before population 80 (in vanilla DF).

Unless...all those lost 40.x goblin armies have to turn up somewhere, don't they?  :o
Hm I use a pop cap of 60 and beautify a lot so either that changes the trigger for population or I reach a wealth trigger, I guess.

And in this version I stopped using the pop cap because of the extra jobs and petitions and so on.

Okay, I commented on a bug report to let them know.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Reduce the number of migrants?
« on: December 17, 2015, 03:47:07 pm »
Best thing to do with all those migrants is throw them in a militia squad and send them out to kill everything, the more dangerous the better. If any survive, they'll be great warriors.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Useless artifacts? Noob here!
« on: December 17, 2015, 12:04:03 pm »
One thing you can do to avoid useless artifacts is assign weaponsmith to all your dwarves and have them make weapon trap components on repeat which you afterwards melt so you can repeat the process. That way, most moods will be artifact weapons so leave good bars near the workshops - platinum if you want hammers or maces stronger than silver and steel for everything else, unless you have candy. If a dwarf grabs platinum and it doesn't end up being a hammer or mace, you can savescum until you get the desired weapon.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Random deaths
« on: December 15, 2015, 07:17:39 am »
But are there combat reports? Mine didn't show any combat reports and I started a new fortress in .03 and I haven't had any deaths so far.

Your case sounds like it could be a dwarf enraged by booze.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Possible built wall bug or weirdness
« on: December 14, 2015, 01:23:52 pm »
I hadn't even thought of forbiding everything, good tip.

I'm pretty sure about this but I'm gonna make a couple more tests before I report it. I had no idea hauling jobs come with their own priority, apparently above 4 and below 1, and this was a cool way to find out.

DF Gameplay Questions / Possible built wall bug or weirdness
« on: December 14, 2015, 12:09:35 pm »
Sorry if posted before.

I built walls to isolate dwarves that were bitten by a werecreature in my lower levels and got spammed with loads of haul cancelations.

This didn't use to happen right? After the current jobs were cancelled, the dwarves afterwards just ignored any items on the other side of walls. At least that's how I remember it.

They also seem to keep trying to collect webs in walled off caverns.

So I try to deconstruct the walls and they just ignore it. My guess is the hauling jobs are higher priority and they keep getting cancelled. Then I assign the deconstruction command with priority 1 and they finally do it but they definitely won't with priority 4.

Should I report this?

DF Suggestions / Re: "q" without pausing possible?

Perhaps all the autopauses could be kept but pressing space would unpause the game as you keep working away?

DF Suggestions / Re: Expanding on wood and trees

I like all these ideas.

Also bark, mostly cork. We already have glass in the game and this would allow us to make bottles, which would lead to booze having the year of production specified so we can have vintages.

Thank you, splinterz. You are a superb human being indeed.

Play until the 2nd or 3rd migrant wave.

DF Suggestions / Re: Lecterns, kids' books, ink
« on: December 12, 2015, 01:47:00 pm »
That's a good idea. Either that or the lectern could be a part of other rooms such as libraries, dining halls, temples and taverns so reading can be a form of entertainment as well.

DF Suggestions / Lecterns, kids' books, ink
« on: December 12, 2015, 12:42:55 pm »
Since we have books now, why not lecterns? It's already been mentioned in another topic that it'd be cool if necromancers had them but why not everyone? Dwarves read to each other so it makes sense. People used to read while standing for some reason.

Kids' books, pretty self-explanatory especially if some sort of day-care or school gets implemented.

Kids' books would probably have drawings so you'd need ink of different colours, as well as quills, pens, brushes and so on. This has all been suggested before though.
