i wanted to have the only entrance to my fort be a drawbridge, but the miners didn't get around to removing the last two slopes.
and then a goblin seige showed up, slaughtered my livestock, took out several hunters and wiped out three quarters of my military before retreating. they also killed a baby

also, my civ is called the staff of wood, and the fort is fondleglove. hurray for random generaters

I had a bone carver go berserk in the aftermath of a necro seige
A newborn he attacked carved his bones

My farms are usually just 9 plots of 7*7, and my stockpiles are the same size as the combined plots.
I don't have to worry about expansion

Now there is 11 undead left, 3 of which have armor and iron weapons.

I'm slightly skeptical about those undead having items in the first place. Corpses don't fuction as containers (yet...), which means that all worn, held and stuck items are dropped upon death. So, when they're reanimated, they shouldn't have any items at all. (This is, of course, if they weren't directly transformed into "zombies" by evil smoke/dust/rain/whatever.) I could be wrong, though. Could you check this?

I think you're right,  they were killed by unarmed recruits so they must have dropped their stuff. Also the combat logs only show the undead as punching or wrestling

Welcome to the Fun of Dwarf fortress!
Fire and Magma are free.
Thanks

Cleanup is going well, I ran out of beer so everyone ran to the nearest water source after I removed the wall, but alcohol production is back up now.

No tantrum spiral has happened yet, so I'm guessing this fort will live to see another year

The second militia commander died fighting his first zombie, so I recruited an animal trainer and animal caretaker, as well as some fisher people. A fish cleaner by the name of Sigun Kathildoren killed the last two, receiving some bruising a broken lower spine, and I'm on the verge of a tantrum spiral.

However, the only dwarf to tantrum, my animal caretaker, calmed down rather quickly.

I'm kind of pleased with myself for surviving the seige, now I have to see if I can make it through the aftermath

So the militia commander killed the bone carver via falcon punch to the head.

The militia commander killed about 6 corpses before an elf one got lucky.

The woodworker is getting boxed in but he's still happy, I set to work building some armor and a steel warhammer but ran out of fuel, and a baby boy was born.
Minus the baby, things are going as expected

So, I had everything going well. Production was good, housing was being done and my military had 4 dwarves. I had traded a bunch of rock crafts to the caravan for some steel bars since I didn't know how to make any, and was about to put it to use. Armok had other plans for me as I got a message, "The dead walk. Hide while you still can!".
Now, I have never been in a seige, as my longest fort of about 20 died to a single honey badger and a small cave-in, and the rest of my forts got abandoned out of boredom. So I decided to put a quick wooden wall in front of the staircase leading to my fortress, and set my military to quickly go and take out the two necromancers (one was a fish-cleaner, the other a fishery worker). They were working their way to them, and a couple stray hunters took out one of the necromancers and some zombies before being overrun.
I checked back over to my fort, and the woodworker was chopping down a tree, so I had to un-designate them which I forgot to do before, and then he goes to another just off to the side. After he started to get to work he put the wall up (on the wrong side as usual) so I left him there and checked on my military.
I could not find them, so I assumed they were dead, and went back to my fort. My two guard dogs I had chained up were making short work of any corpse that got too close, but I knew that when the necromancer showed up and started resurrection they would be screwed. I then saw something at the bottom of my screen, "Ushrir Dallithzefon has become a militia commander. It took me a second to register, and that's when i noticed he was ASLEEP IN A BED.

(i didn't think to start a document until now.)
I quickly checked the units list, and the necromancer wasn't there, so I assumed the commander managed to kill him. But not before resurrecting my 3 deceased soldiers

Now, we go down to the fortress, where a bone carver went berserk and stopped everyone from getting their beloved plump helmets

People started running everywhere, someone or something stole a mail shirt (i'm guessing that was outside, where my soldiers died) and he strangled someones dog to death. He then tried attacking an infant in it's mothers arm, bruising it's arm. The baby tore his ear open and bruised his leg.
I made a gem-cutter into militia captain and sent him to kill, and he started to fuck up the bone carver.

Now there is 11 undead left, 3 of which have armor and iron weapons. My militia commander is getting pissed off, everyone underground except for five are happy, only two are unhappy, my trapped woodworker is picking berries trying to survive, I'm too scared to break down the wall lest the zombies get in, and all my livestock are scattered around the map.

I'll update with the outcome of the siege.

I order my dwarves to start channeling a hill that's only 1 z-level high, with everything supported. One of them, the expedition leader/broker, somehow skids his head along the ground and kills himself.

Tie your shoelaces, people.

I'd like in as well
This seems like a great idea for my first succession game

Except that you'd have to wait a few months for DF2013 to be released since it hasn't been.
I can wait, I'll have a good comp by then instead of this laptop.

I embarked in an evil fun biome, and immediately my hunter and his dog ran into a cloud to kill some cavy's, and they got turned into husks, so I conscripted the rest of my dwarves into the military

None bothered to grab a weapon
They just kicked, punched and groped the dog until they dehydrated to death
