Same here. I love the fortress game mode now, but I miss the family trees, the maps view and the way Legends Viewer presents the information of the whole world. I used it every time to check my kings' family history, check for interesting monsters I wanted to fight or personal dramas I wanted to draw.

I hope it becomes possible to use the viewer again, at some point (or similar). Thanks for all the work and the joy you gave me with it.

DF General Discussion / Re: Future of the Fortress

¿will you take some kind of rest, or holidays, when the Steam version is launched?
I guess you'll addres the most worrying bugs but after that, I mean.

You talk about development in a really casual way, like it's no big deal, but I'm pretty sure there's been a lot of stressful moments and a lot more will come with the release. I love the game, but no game is worth its creators' wellbeing.

If it's not too personal, ¿Have you ever felt you abused yourself pushing a release or hunting a bug? Is it difficult to handle the community's expectations and constant "when when when" questions?

Thanks for your attention and your work.

Most of the time it ends up being "the sims". Prettyfication of the fortress, micromanaging the citizens' tastes in furniture, etc.

And having the most whooping tavern in the continent, of course.

Watching a stream I just found you can create supersonic masses of water with enough layers of water pressure.

In this case it was a drowning chamber 120+ tiles long, that filled in one second or so. Did some math and assuming one tile is 1m2, then the water travelled at more than 400 km/h (speed of sound is 343km/h).

This is the moment it happened, in case someone is interested:

There's this Longdeath Fort, a projected 1000 years fort, currently hundreds of years in, if memory serves.
Look for BlindiRL on twitch or Youtube, he streams regularly and maybe he can give you some good advice on stream or in his vod youtube.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Is the monarchy hereditary?
« on: October 13, 2019, 10:19:08 am »
Primogeniture is not the way the throne is inherited, I think. I had a royal family where the youngest daughter ingerited the throne over two siblings.

Also, there are no regents, are they? I never had one.

Some time ago I thought DF would have some kind of Crusader Kings mechanics but no, it's way simpler. Maybe the plots and villiains change this to some extent but I doubt it.

Also probably a well known thing but one of my dwarves is wearing like 4 crowns at once.

Kruggsmash had a dwarf wearing five at some point. I don't know if that's the official record or someone has a 10 crown circus artist around

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Breakage rate for trap components seems high
« on: September 18, 2019, 08:12:10 am »
Yeah, I noticed that, too. Serrated disks seem to degrade really quick when assembled into a trap.

Now that I think of it, I should use more spiked balls and menacing spikes and common weapons to see if they break as fast or not. ¿Maybe it's a deliberate design decision?

¿Did she had her first artifact already? ¿Like a crazy wool cap with jewels or a silly obsidian doorknob? ¿Any marriages or a gold  vein to craft into toys?

¿What are the developments in this sister-meets-DF story?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The joys of returning.
« on: September 16, 2019, 12:58:06 pm »
I believe I'm getting old(er) and DF is my confort game by now.

I return to it at least once every trimonth. Right now I know the game quite well but still I find so much pleasure in it, I think I'll retire and will be still playing it.

(¡And maybe it'll be finished by then!)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: check clothing situation?
« on: September 16, 2019, 12:50:57 pm »
Save for papermaking purposes, all those pig tails and (if the bioma allows for it) extra plants and wool and silk hace no other use than clothesmaking.
Textile industry had little place in my previous forts, but right now morale and stress make textile workshops really important. To avoid rotting clothing bad thoughts and to keep boring (or unoccupied military) dwarves satisfied doing stuff.

Also, once the tailors become really good, it's just so satisfying to check people are dressing fancier than anayone in the continent.

For roleplaying purposes, ¡You can't keep your people treading in the snow withiout warm wool clothes!

Sometimes I wish there were lots more of clothing pieces.

I'd suggest turn off invasions by now and let her enjoy the day to day living. Dwarves can survive from fishing, hunting and gathering fruits, ¡Build windmills and taverns and have a laugh!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Stress & Pysche: 44.11+

Disabling the weather looks like a really good option to me. Weather doesn't affect anything apart from the dearves' mood, I think. Ponds don't refill with rain, rivers don't flood, and snow storms don't slow movement or prevent birds from flying.

So disabling weather is like assuming weather's there but your citizens don't care about it more than the world around them. I think I'll do it next fort.

I just use the standard embark points unless I'm roleplaying heavily (like the city is some special project of the King's) and I decide to give myself points enough for 100 iron bars, 25 armor sets or 300 marble blocks or 40 goats for livestock farm.

I consider it more a logic equipment limit for a 7 people expedition than a real budget, in fact.

That sounds too good and sensible.

Is it even possible ?
