IIRC, non-player dwarves don't get access to candy. Due to the way things currently work, that would give them endless access to it.

They can release some clowns from the circus, however.

DF Suggestions / Re: Option for DF window location

Huh?  Just put the cursor wherever you want and hit “b”, then “y”.  How hard can that be?

I don't know what that's supposed to do, but it does nothing.

DF Suggestions / Option for DF window location
« on: June 04, 2021, 05:53:42 pm »
I play DF in windowed mode and use a 3rd party utility to view announcements. Every time I start up DF, I have to drag DF's window into an appropriate place. Even if the Steam update adds it's own improved announcement log, I'd still want the game window to be centered.

I suggest adding an option for the window's location upon starting the game. This could be through command line, init setting, and/or remembering the window location from last time.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Trivial findings

TIF there's a death message stating that a Dwarf has been 'Found dead, badly crushed'. I'm not a hundred percent sure what the exact conditions for it to occur are, though, since I didn't see the dwarf die and only found his corpse when I zoomed to it.

Maybe being propelled by a blow (or intelligent undead power?)

I think there was that one instance where all the dwarves died immediately on embark. Can't remember if it was an overflowing volcano or a cave in. That's more of a bug that needs to be fixed, though.

How long does it take to die from temperature?

I suppose the inside/outside or light/dark flags (can't remember their exact names) are also probably updated, but I'm sure there are more that I am not thinking about.

I don't think trees affect subterranean/above ground or light/dark flags, just outside/inside (like buildings.) Looks like your script always sets the tile to outside, which doesn't make sense for cavern trees. Something more may need to be done there, like setting it to the respective x/y tiles in the z-level above the tree.

The page on wagon structures claims that it's possible for dwarves to embark into a volcano, but there isn't any source listed.

Best source would probably be the acknowledged bug report: https://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=9598

Could throw in a known bug entry at the bottom of the wiki page while at it.

It definitely wouldn't be hard to loop over any items in the tree and turn them into projectiles and loop over any water tiles and add the update flows flag.

As far as I know, you can just enable updates in the tile where the plant coordinate was, and it will end up updating the whole body of water. (Unless the liquids command is doing more than just setting the single tile's flag.) Although you'd probably want to set the flag where each solid tree tile was, just in case there are setups where that matters.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Of werebeasts and loyalty cascades.

For a moment I thought I could create a tavern for visitors only, but there is no such option.

I've heard only visitors will visit a tavern that's had its zone disabled. Haven't tried it myself.

Bout everything we've seen so far has been showing he's not particularly addled, especially relative to trump's insanity. Biden's just still a pretty old politician with a stutter, so he occasionally flubs deliveries, on top of plenty of the remarkably shit outlooks that "old US politician" tends to entail.

Better than trump on more or less every level and especially in regards to consistency/coherence, but that's a bar you have to dig out of the ground to fail to clear.

What exactly is Trump's equivalent to this? Or that time Biden went on about record players when asked about repairing the legacy of slavery?

Trump passed that one cognitive test. Biden gets defensive whenever the subject is brought up. And of course Biden doesn't have to debate the press very often.

This is more a discussion for AmeriPol, though.

IF A DOCTOR ACTED AS THOUGH A COP DID, AND KILLED SOMEONE AFTER LOOKING AT THEIR SITUATION FOR THE AMOUNT OF TIME A COP USUALLY DOES BEFORE THEY SHOOT SOMEONE, THE DOCTOR WOULD BE FIRED AND PROSECUTED.

A doctor doesn't have to worry about themselves or others (besides the patient) dying if they take too long. See, for instance, the incident involving Ma'Khia Bryant. Ma'Khia was less than a second away from stabbing another girl before the officer shot her. Given the size of the knife, it would very likely have been fatal. Just a day before that in the same state, a girl was stabbed to death in a similar situation, but without a cop present.

Also a cop's job is to help people and protect life.
That includes protecting the lives of others besides the suspect, including the officer themself.

Police officers are in fact often responsible for emergency first aid, yes. Why do you ask?
Not as their primary responsibility. They protect people from other people, which sometimes involves taking a life. Officers will provide first aid after it is safe to do so.

Doctors, on the other hand, primarily treat people in a controlled environment, with no threat to themselves or others. Despite this, doctors kill many more healthy people each year by preventable mistake than cops kill total with guns. I'd say most cops do their job pretty well by that metric.

Clarification from Toady on the armor sizes:
For small/large, the formula I see is
wearer creature size <= item creature size * 6/7 means the item is too large
and
wearer creature size >= item creature size * 8/7 means the item is too small

A gun is not a cure. Man you're not very good at this.

Is a police officer tasked with healing people? Troll harder.
