DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Minimum Height for Underground Forest?

there's a tree cap on the map, there can only be so many trees in existence.

Source?

Range is adjacent tiles only, IIRC.

DF Suggestions / Re: Possibility of AI integration in DF?

At some point, enemies are going to be able to dig during seiges, and it says in the dev notes that there will possibly be some capacity for enemies to learn from failed attacks.  Is there any heuristic/algorithm/whatever (I am not familiar with the lingo) that might be feasible to implement to this end?

The plan is to increase pathing cost where invaders die.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The usage of artillery shells as a theme everywhere really scores home the "we blew all our taxpayer money on a 40k fanfic so we no longer have funds to pay the families of dead conscripts." All in all, nice building. Just a shame it's a church for the blood god, as Russian people did not need another tribute to the skull throne

IDK, looks like a condom to me.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Caged Goblin City

If they're invaders, they don't have needs and won't ever do anything other than wander around looking for stuff to kill.

You're better off waiting for goblin performers as tavern visitors, which can petition to join your fort.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Checking Temperature ingame

Nether cap itself is always just above freezing. IIRC, a nether cap bucket or barrel isn't even able to cool its contents at all because the ambient temperature has a much stronger effect.

In 15 years of my fort playing normally, I've only had 2 dwarves that were driven to tantrum. One was a child who kept starting arguments every time he socialized. Completely unsaveable. The other is a soldier who received a bunch of injuries fighting cavern invaders. (I think he won't be a problem, but the fort's stuck just before a loyalty cascade.)

Had a similar experience, but with a proper loyalty cascade.

Monarch arrived with entourage. Elf siege occurs later. As soon as they're revealed, some visiting dwarf nobles start fighting with my war dogs, which triggers the cascade for my civilians. It doesn't end after the original combatants die.

I save scummed multiple times, but it's inevitable.

Large droplets survive longer, with payload, to settle on surfaces (including faces) for further contact transmission.

COVID hasn't been shown to readily transmit from surfaces. (This article claims risk 1000 times less than airborne.) The overwhelming majority of cases are from poorly ventilated places where airborne particles saturate to the point where you're constantly breathing them in. Large droplets can't do that, since they quickly fall to the floor.

With two programmers the mystery of how to make a macro remains secret forever? Not very likely....

The issue is doing it well in an environment that has dropped full keyboard support in favor of a mouse-oriented GUI.

You can create mouse macros right now using 3rd party tools. It's just garbage due to the aforementioned issues.

General Discussion / Re: The Dream Thread
« on: February 20, 2023, 03:24:16 am »
Dreamed I was in Skyrim with my partner.

I dreamed I was in Oblivion (or Morroblivion mod) last week. I was gathering cooked rice that people had spilled in the dirt (near a lake/shore) and put it in a bag I had so I could turn it into restore fatigue potions if I found a mortar. I also found a fishing rod, which broke, so I began climbing buildings and trees with a pair of fishing hooks attached to strings.
