Just like farming was a bloat on the dev list.  ::)

I almost believed it right up until the picture of the dev team was the red dwarf crew.

I said it before, I'll say it again. Sewage is as vital as farming for any civilization. (and twice as fun to devise systems for).

Well in Aristotle's defense there was a philosopher who thought it was the shape of objects that allowed them to float.
I think you meant that as the other philosopher was being stupid. Just wanted to check before I say this, but technically he is almost correct. Objects with a shape that has a larger surface area do float better.

4. Headsets.
I read that as "headaches" the first time.

Careful with those DS modchips. Demand will be short lived if you sell them that fast, and if you overstock, you can easily destroy your marginal profit. Know your market.

One of the local techies near me has a racket on Game Console repair. It's really easy. 5 minutes, if that, with a small stock on hand of some specialized tools, sometimes a spare part, and a blowdryer. Charges half of what the official company does and still makes about 50$ per fix. He makes at least 400$ every weekend.

Of course you have to know computer hardware and not be afraid of breaking someone's electronics. But, the people that come to you have no idea how to do it, so if you mess up you can just tell them it is hopeless from the start and not feel guilty as technically it was busted to begin with. All the resources and tools to do this are online.

Learn some game console modding as well and offer some mods. Anything from simply swapping out LEDs to installing modchips. The parts for those you can import from china for dirt cheap.

I'm almost never around here anymore. But I thought this interesting enough.

What.
How.

Vought and colleagues plan to continue their national study of evil.

“It’s too much fun,” Vought said, smiling in a way that suggested, if not pride, then a good deal of pleasure.

Watch the region of Nebraska and North of that into the Dakotas. That and From Kentucky stretching NW up into the Dakotas. What gives?

WTF Florida, California, Washington, the SE in general and the East coast.

I see humans painting and dwarves carving and elves weaving. Although painting might actually give our nobles something (almost) useful to do.

I wonder if someone could corner him into disproving Chinese water torture. It's just dripping water, after all.

I'd guess that in general, yes, they do.
The size and presence of an emergency bag in the back of a person's car I've noticed seems to have some correlation. Though I've never bothered to note anything about that beyond just mentally.

Other Games / Killing Floor (or "Screw L4D")
« on: May 23, 2009, 12:08:08 am »
Killing floor. From the People who brought you Red Orchestra.

UT04 + Counterstrike Merchant + L4D + 28 Days Later.

Massively cooperative survival horror. Says standard play is with 6 people. Originally a mod, now commercial and fairly professional. Surprisingly few bugs that aren't game-breaking. Waves and waves of genetic mutants, progressively harder. NON-LINEAR! Zombies get guns too as it goes. A server was run with 70 some people, incredibly lag free. Thought L4D is too easy? Took 2 and a half hours to make it to the final boss which pwnd them all even with 70 people. IRON SIGHTS ONLY! Reloads not pointlessly fast either, careful when you reload. Get "perks" as you play more. Buy weapons and supplies between waves and quickly reorganize. NO WEAPON SLOTS, WEIGHT BASED! Share some of your loot with a friend and save up for big support weapons!

Best part? 20$, and it will run on a 1.2 Ghz processor with a 64 Mb Vid card.

Ready to mod out of the box.

Anyone willing to sacrifice 20$ and tell us how it is?

That flashlight does not illuminate the entire room and we are still trying to find the walls.

Infernal thread. I thought it was dead already.

You've built a strawman.
That's what I hate about these. I swear every forum would be at near peace if posts threads with any religion related words were deleted automatically.

Gamble with your lives as you will, I don't care. When I care is when you try to gamble with other people's lives. Leave the fates be or there might well be blood on your hands.

Further away from anything directed at individuals, do you think religious and non-religious people on the whole have different personality types?

Eventually.

Parallel processing and DF won't happen until someone else who can ends up with the DF project or Adams stocks up on enough aspirin and learning drugs to take a crack at it.

Radiation therapy has been around for so long, I'd feel safe having that myself. It's getting newer treatments I'm scared about.

Well I guess then you must be very fond of, say, bloodletting. And lobotomy. ::)
Has been scientifically proven for so long. Better?

Although I dont aprove of first person mode ever being made
THIS IS NOT 1ST PERSON.
One of the things I enjoy most about Dwarf Fortress is that I can't just take a dwarf and hand him most orders.  If something like this was added (and, since the system just described is actually the standard for strategy games, it's not like it couldn't have been considered), I think I speak for most DF players when I say that it would diminish a lot of the challenge that makes the game appealing.
This was exactly my problem with the suggestion too. Which is why I was adding my two cents, which likely don't add up to much at all, but whatever.

THIS IS NOT IN FORTRESS MODE.

THIS IS MODIFIED ADVENTURE MODE.

Ignore Drake1500. He doesn't even know what I was referencing to.

A new mode. Not fortress mode, right?  I'm all for that.  Controlling raiding parties would be really fun.  It's somewhere in the middle ground between Adventure mode and Fortress mode, which is always a good thing.

I think most of the protest comes from people who misunderstand the OP's intentions, although I'll defer that call to him, of course.

How can squad control outside Fort mode be a bad thing? I would greatly enjoy it.
Thank you!

General Discussion / Free* Prizes!

In the eternal quest for the elusive "free", I keep stumbling over *Some Participation Required. In this day and age I'm not too bad at dodging the spam. I don't care how many viruses they pump into the computer, I can do it through my old junker computer. Temptation has set in for the fourth time in the last few years, this time I'm after free Xbox Live Gold, but never mind that. I keep coming across sites like PrizeRebel (The "let us shove ads and trials down your throat for credit and you get bonus credit for referrals" sites). What I want is a legitimate opinion from anyone who has ever done it.

Now watch a new account crop up with pigeon English and at least one smiley face in the only post it ever makes here.

Seriously though, I'd take any established person's word. How legit is it?
