I did notice their were some rocks lying around the floor were the furnace is. Despite being able to build their maybe that's what's causing things to not work.

I did link one of my stockpiles to the furnace, though not the one that i put next to it...lol
otherwise the burrow isn't set and they haven't been working on it before the attack had taken place (which i've been trying for months prior)

I'll look up alerts though as burrows probably isn't what you mean by that as well as linking the closer wood pile. I'll try it out right now and edit this post.

------------
edit: still no go, the closest wood pile to feed the furnace but still no ones doing it. theirs a few  different variety of logs so i don't see their being an incompatible log type being a problem.

also alerts are off..hmm

DF Gameplay Questions / Nobody wants to do charcoal?
« on: March 24, 2015, 05:02:57 am »
hey folks! just found some gold ore so i've been wanting to turn that into some gold crafts.
Got the wood furnace setup, a pile of lumber close by, all of my dwarves set to 'burn wood' on therapist, one who's exclusively set to do it, a manager who apparently has validated an order of 30 charcoal, access for everyone via the furnace profile properties.

Just having a bit of a wtf moment, really wanting to get my gold ore turned into trading goods but can't fiddle my way out of this.

I see that the charcoal gets cued up (i've done it on my own as well as had the manager cue it up) I've cancelled it, retried it, rebuilt the thing, tried it again, switched managers, tried it again.

had to send my only hammer guys out to fight a wereantalope with fists (got their asses kicked luckily only exhausted), a ranger has lost an arm and his sight, apparently everyone seems to be doing fine but i'm growing more and more concerned....

Is their any tricks that anyone has to get the charcoal going (is this a bug?)
thanks!

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your adventure?

Nothing too interesting...went hungry & thirsty in the middle of no where with no clue what to do. Tried murdering my companion axewoman for food. Bloodied up on the ground i tried to yield, ending in alot of axe in me head.

hey folks, thought just came up...I know you can hit the 'k' key to examine the different tiles but i'm wondering if it might be possible to implement a screen that catches everything within the player's view.

I like that I can look at the different things in the environment (tree's,bushes, creatures, etc.) and imagine what's going on around me but if there was a way to speed that up, it would be appreciated.

say a menu that just grabs all of the stuff on the screen and jots it's name and the icon it's using down onto a list.

Tree = (tree icon)
bushes = (bush icon)
npc 1 = (npc 1 icon)
npc 2 = (npc 2 icon)

DF General Discussion / minimum requirements for future update?
« on: September 14, 2013, 12:20:36 pm »
hey folks, was just curious if this was answered at some point. I see that there's a cool amount of stuff being added with the new revision. My question is: Will it require a substantial amount more processing/memory/etc. to run?

The current build works well enough on my laptop, although with some lag here and there. There seems to be an option to increase embark size which would obviously rise computer needs, but otherwise does anyone know about the rest of the features?

DF General Discussion / Re: Dwarf Fortress Theme On Piano (and more)
« on: July 14, 2013, 03:25:47 pm »
I just wanted to see if the melodies played are based off of chords. It's hard to explain but I'm in the process of learning guitar and I'm finding it alot easier to just find the chords and just get the rest by ear as opposed to looking at tabs.

I was play the first part and caught:
- some sort B chord (it's the shape of b major but with some tweaks can't quite pin point them)
- an augmented A chord followed by an regular A chord
- A tweaked A minor
- A tweaked E major

I suppose I'm more interested in dissecting the style to better understand it as opposed to just memorizing the tune.

This probably just sounds like a bunch of rambling but I figure it couldn't hurt..hehe

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: quick question

hmmmm.... I'm pretty sure unless you make it back to a settlement or safe area, when you retire it you just 'give into starvation'. When you go to a town it will say 'retire and become peasant until ready for later use' or something.

Hey folks! was just thinking about this and thought that it might help make the game more accessible.

What I'm thinking of is you have a brief video that explains all of the basic functions that allows you to explore. You merely go over the controls in the 'key binding' menu and have a quick snippet afterwords were someone commentates on it while showing it in action.

I find that even the menu screens are pretty simple and could easily be described as well in this format.

There's not really much to it but I find the tutorials aren't really as effective as they can be. The way I learned was basically watching a couple lets plays and using the wiki as reference as I did my own thing but I think a video done well could easily do the same thing in a lot shorter time frame.

I'm thinking you could sum up the whole thing in about 10 minutes (at least enough to get out there and do some kick ass adventuring) leaving you to learn the rest through trial and error.

any thoughts on this? or if someone has already done such a thing that'd be cool!

I just think that the adventure mode as is could use it's own tutorial because I could see alot of people starting DF on that mode.

took one step into a shaman's tower and just got mauled with flying spears, bolts and fire balls.
the force propelled me back severing my right arm and leg.

I got tired near a mountain region and took a nap to get woken up by a Fire Bird.
Burned to death in one turn, was kind of a shame that I didn't think of trying to lie prone...

Another time I was having a pretty good run. Killed off about 5 quest items and had a band of 6 altogether. I then thought I'd give an Ice warlock a try.....Needless to say he was a warlock made of ice...and there were a bunch of them. My Steel sword did nothing to him and I was lucky to run into 2 of the Ice men isolated from the rest so it was a long bit of 2 bolt men, 1 rifle men *mod*, 1 mase man, a hammer man and I pummeling them until they finally croaked.

Up to this point I've found wrestling to be quite handy as I've killed off many guys by strangling them until they pass out then just lobbing there heads off after. I even managed to subdue 1 of these big guys in a grab striking him with my metal bracer repeatedly until his head finally caved in.

When it came to the big fight no go...they immediately finished off the 2 melee guys who seemed to have been doing all the work and my attempts to latch on to the warlock and bash her head in did was shit...hehe

she crushed my skull in with her crystal mace, i let go and try to retreat and she finishes the job repeatedly bashing my skull in until i die.
I wanted to draw it for the other thread but these guys are outside of my stick man drawing skills.

cannon ball?

aarrrg! I forgot to mention that I was using the Master Works mod.
Could of swore I had that....at any rate....

Not terribly interesting, but after finishing my character's first quest (slayed vampire) and building up some local renown I decided I'd take my 2 adventure buddies and try out some bandits.

I make it to the camp and didn't think to sneak, walk up a slope and get a cannon ball to my ankle which shatters it *Lost ability to walk* so I decide to crawl away back to the last town I left from then crawl all the way back to her hometown and retire..

I'm hoping of meeting her with a future player....also wanted to see what the lore for her looked like in legends mode.
