quick mace primer
main targets are legs and weapon hands, the sole reliable kill shot is the head.
avoid the lower body it is to soft to wound.

Imagine trying to bludgeon a rabbit in the head continuously with an iron mace...I've never used them again since.

I agree with leaving a few people behind to guard the bridge if we go further into the ship BUT we shouldn't turn off life support. Disable weapons and engines but keep life support running. We then use the starships intercom to inform the pirates that surrender is preferable to suffocation. If they don't comply we'll turn life support off for a while, say thirty minutes.

Oh - last adventurer I made was a Ghoul and apparently he/she never had to eat. I know their motabolism is pretty much screwed, but not THAT much.
Also, you know when you have a quest dialogue that goes along the lines of "he did X to Y!", well mine was:
"He took the tame Red Dog!"
"Anus McUnhappyFarmerGhoulGuy calms down." (and that's A-noose; my FO PnP ghoul character btw)
When I went to kill the dreaded beast - which was a human/shadow of the night, which are UP - nope, no red dog.
Also, is it on purpose that ALL Ghouls in Ghoul towns are Farmers and/or Herbalists?

Throwing will be your best friend; pelt down the baddies with rocks, vomit, socks or anything else you can get your hands on until they come in range of your weapon. You would be surprised what you can take down with random objects.

It'll be at this time I reference my post on this thread:
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=105380.msg4032785#msg4032785
Which coincidentally was also the last post. And we probably should mention the fluffy wambler and the bronze colossus too - although I really never use throwing that much tbh.

Lucas was still midly confused, but the two previous impacts that rocked the ship started up his adrenaline and he grinned at Shia.
"Do you want to live forever?"

I was looking more for recommendations in embark and such, but I'll go and read the tips for the...fourth time now. :P

Here's some more good advice.

Never, ever, EVER start out playing Adventurer Mode with Maces. I'm, well, I can say that I'm knowledgeable in Adventurer Mode but still a touch green (due to the tombs and towers being added - before that I considered myself a Veteran). The one time I did choose mace as my main skill instead of a bladed weapon (I usually go swordsman in vanilla/fantasy mods) it took me about 15 real life minutes to bludgeon a rabbit; who ended up suffocating in the end. God, all the rabbit was bruised to the Nth degree...
So Demi-God is good for starters, high strength, agility, toughness and endurance. IIRC you should have a little more points to invest in one more skill - you can reduce Empathy, Musicality, Linguistic, Patience and Memory without any ill effects (afaik). Skills, choose one weapon skill, put an equal amount into Dodge, Armour and Shield Use, Adequete Swimmer and Novice Reader are a must - otherwise you'll drown at lower levels and be unable to read the necromantic tomes. FYI, don't bother spending points on Fighter at the beginning - it levels up during combat anyway and is a waste

Also you'll want to do the Ctrl-A to attack instead of walking into things - that'll get your body part selection menu - hint, blue exclamation points next to the attack "strength' (easy attack, will only graze !; but a lighter blue) indicate simple attacks that will 99% of the time hit and damage.
Go to town centers and Forts/Strongholds (the "well" on the map) and find a suit of metal armor. Also hire companions - the guardsmen.
The rest comes with experience.

and the first one to charge into battle is the first one with an arrow in the face.

Not always... :P

I'm gonna try Fortress Mode sometime soon - anyone got any tips, suggestions, etc., for me?

144
((Just as a note, you did little more that shooting in the windows of bridge.))

Yeah from that description we've given ourselves a minute or two, possibly killed one or two pirates and gave them a good scare. Now we need to quickly travel over and board the ship and force them to surrender.
I wouldn't be surprised if they begin to arm themselves after being "forced" out of their own bridge.

Wait - from the sound of the quote...perhaps it wasn't as effective as I thought...
Another thing - I was just wondering - how rules lite are RPs? The RPs I've been in were mostly just that - role-playing and mutual "yeah, that'd happen if you do that".

145
Heh - I found in Adventurer Mode that all "outsider" type entities always, always had a flashing background for their graphics.

146
I just read RP - thought "yeah been a long time since I did one of these", saw Salvation, clicked on it out of curiosity and was immediately hooked on the first page.

147
Come to think of it we should wait until the new turn is posted then plan and act accordingly.

148
Here's a possible way of working this scene out.
As Domas, Shia, and Lucas get prepared to remove the warhead and prepare to board respectively, Diana should try and distract the pirates with her negotiations skills. That way - in theory - they wouldn't be as prepared for both the return of the warhead and our boarding party.

149
Lucas still held a confused look on his face.
"Ok - WHAT exactly are we going to do?"

If we can only cut out a chunk of hull to release the warhead - wouldn't a warhead, plus a few "dummy" missiles on a flat piece of metal sort of...give it away that we're returning their present? I mean, sensors would probably pick it up as projectiles, but if one pirate decides "lets have a look out this window/porthole...oh shit, there's...wait a minute...something's awfully odd about that piece of metal attached to those missiles..."
Although its a good scare tactic. Diana has the high negotiations skill - why doesn't she try and bluff the pirates via dice rolls and such?

150
Lucas takes Shia's hand and grasps it firmly.
"Lucas Knight - but you already know that. The "entertainer"..." Lucas snaps his fingers in a vain attempt to remember her name.
"She 'recruited' me when I expressed interest in joining the crew. You see she was talking to my friend and former employer 'The Olde Merchant', and since I didn't want to be kept in one place too long...but later. What are we equipped with when it comes down to the shooting? I've got my old blaster here, but maybe packing something heavier wouldn't be that bad of an idea."
