Quote from: Gamerlord
"So we have a clone, a soldier, a transhumanist and an, um... What's odd about the other guy?"
((Saying it while we were moving to Jah's Hime))
- Well, some say i'm a history-geek and a mad reconstructor.
Action: trying to look around the landing sight through my rifles' scope, looking for trails or footprints
[6] You tune your scope to high-contrast and survey the area. The snow here is sporadic, blowing over rocks here and there, or piling on the ground in a thin carpet, but a skilled tracker can learn a lot even from that. After a minute or two of observation, you conclude that no human or vehicle was at the site after the ship landed. You spot a lot of wildlife tracks, though.

Sean gets out and moves to the closest opening, gun ready.
"Any of you know how to open these things?"

((Fixed.))
You move to the service entrance: the ship was loaded through it. It is sealed now, though. There's a control panel by the door.
"No idea".

3437
Sean gets out and moves to the closest pod, gun ready.
"Any of you know how to open these things?"
((The pods are inside the ship. It's kind of double-layered - the storage section in the center, surrounded by pods, and then the outer shielding. When the ship drops, the outer shielding and the pods are shot away from the central section.))

3438
Action: Let's drive a bit closer...we need to investigate the pods...
You bring the hover in and park it near the ship. It is still covered in its shielding plates, pocked with micrometeor scarring from its long journey. The pods must still be inside... along with their occupants.

3439
"...all right, it's time to go. Weapons free once we're outside of the camp perimeter." McGaw announces abruptly.

Action: Time to move us on GM! Drive drive drive to the Jah's Home...
You all load your butts into the hover and take off, going east. After a few hours of skimming forward through snow, the terrain turns rocky. The snow is not as deep - now the scenery is mostly wind-blown crags and juts of rock. It's eerily beautiful: like the Grand Canyon must've looked in the ice age, you suppose. After some winding turns and loops, you arrive to the Home's landing site. It sits beneath a crag.
"Oh fuck."
You turn to look at Williams: she is sitting there pale as snow, with her jaw hanging. Looking back at the ship, you can only agree with her conclusion.
Jah's Home stands half again as fat as the Horizon.
The pod ejection system hasn't worked.

((Sleepy time. Be back in a few hours.))

"Markus Calion. Central American fisher boy, if you will. Nice to have someone on board, I'm not very well liking how the wild sounds right now. It's certainly better than where I used to live, but still. Get some basic gear and we'll head off, I already have the more advanced equipment needed."

Proceed.
You head down to the armory, where the quartermaster hands Moshe his rifle and a bag of round objects, then you walk out into the sun. Crossing the distance to the river takes only a few minutes. You walk out on the ice and look around. Moshe asks, "So, what next?"

" Could I trade you some explosives for the rifles? Your shorter on that then guns and if I fiddle with it I'm liable to level half the base. "

Try to trade. Tinker with the arms, attach the knives into the tops of the wrists on both arms so I can extend them out when needed, build the pistol in to match the one in the other arm if I don't get the rifles, if I do remove the gun from the other arm and build a rifle into both to extend from the bottom of my wrists.

You get the knives rigged up first: it's not very difficult, you just remove the handles, and they're good to go. The pistol presents a problem, unlike the blades. [5-1] You disassemble it expertly, then remove everything you don't need and saw off more than half the mag to make it fit. Surprisingly, the whole procedure turns out rather well, even your arms don't hinder you much. You make a mental effort, and two short barrels jut out from under your arms' plating with an ominous click. Another effort, and they're replaced by two knife blades. Lock and load.

((The Saigon is an assault rifle that slightly longer than your arm, and most of it is important parts. I'm having trouble seeing how you could integrate it. The gun in your right arm is little more than a tube and a really flat loading system. Remodeling regular weaponry to be integrable is juuust possible with pistols, but the rifles... Hardly. ))

3443
(( Pft thats for weaklings :P. ))

REMOVE THE INHIBITOR!!!!!! Then ask the other doctor to bolt on my new arm for me. Go to the armory and request 2 chainguns, or failing that 2 assault rifles and request 2 wide blades if we have any.
You sigh: something seems to be wrong. Ah. The inhibitor. Who the hell needs that anyway? You promptly remove it, then put the arm back on very, very carefully. Grinning, you spend a few minutes imitating a hummingbird, then descend to the armory and ask for two rifles and two knives. Matveenko isn't amused.
"Two rifles? Qualified soldiers got one each, and you want two just so you can tinker with them? Dude, we'll get the factory running shortly, so wait for it, will ya? As for the blades, here you go." He gets you the knives, then seems to relent a bit.[4] "Okay, so you need two guns, right? Here's another pistol."

((You don't need the other doc to put your arms back on - surgery is needed only to install the sockets.))

3444
(( I'm UK. 3 hardpoints? So the one I had already is incomplete?

I'd go for cybernetic design, and then cybernetic construction but I kinda need surgery as well it'd suck to kill the person I'm bolting it onto. Do I have the shock system in the hand and no inhibitor in it? ))
((Ah, yes - two hardpoints, you have the shock system in the knock-off hand too, since you need no special parts to make it. You have a free hardpoint in the brand hand - the one the bomb was attached to. The knock-off has a limiter, and the brand doesn't. Switch to your left hand for your happy alone times.))

3445
Gather together all the parts I need and begin building one identical to my one for my other arm. Save the blueprint to the computer in my head.
You get your parts together and begin construction. After some work-intensive time, you inspect the end result. It is not exactly identical to the D.I.A arm, but at least it's not so painfully mismatched. There are three weapon hardpoints, but you have nothing to attach to them. Will have to wait until you get the factory running, you suppose.

((Question: what two profession bonuses you think your characters should have? I reserve the right to nerf them if they're OP. Also, just out of personal interest, what are your timezones?))

3446
Go ask around in the mess for fishers.
[6] You climb up to the mess and ask loudly if anyone wants to go fishing with you. For a few moments, everyone is silent. Then suddenly, a lithe, muscular form rises from behind a crate, bottle in hand.
"Oh aye, I'll go with you, kid. Good for the soul, fishing."
The speaker is over two meters tall and possesses the most luxurious mustache you have ever seen: it is even braided.
"The name's Moshe, Moshe Himmelman. Formerly of the Israeli Defense Force. Yours?"

Put on equipment, and begin digging a well. We'll need water.
You suddenly decide the camp needs water. You go outside and start digging through crystallized water to get at the soil below. Then you try to dig, but the ground is too frozen for that. You look past the ship to the frozen water-covered body of water to the west. Hmm.

Run the deep scan.

Taking the arm off again, you set it into the clamp and run the deep-mapper. [5] There are a few missing spots on the resulting blueprint where the manufacturer decided to shield some of their secrets, but you know what's supposed to be there - you're quite sure you can make another arm just like your right one.

3447
(( Ahh I didn't think we were that advanced. Will I adjust my perception in time as I get used to the arm? ))
((Yes, of course. You'll break a fair amount of glasses before then, though. Just don't scratch your nose.))

3448
Run the deep scan, while it's running begin work on an interface system between the arm and my brain directly.

(( The human brain is infinitely faster then human reaction speed, so if I set a direct interface I should be able to use the arms full potential right? ))
((I don't think I read you. The arm already interfaces with your brain as deeply as a real arm would. The problem is that it moves too fast for you to react. You see, when you move your arm to grab an object IRL, you expect it to arrive to the object in a certain amount of time, so you can pull it back. The D.I.A arm moves several times faster than you expect it too. I'll put it that way: if you tried to catch a ball thrown at you now, you would end up waving your arm around before it cleared even half the distance.))

3449
Replace the entire processor with one of equal or greater power from another arm.
You disconnect the bomb and get an input processor from among the spare parts. You see that the port for the processor on the D.I.A arm is different from the others, but you aren't about to let that stop you.
[6] You wire the processor directly to the input circuits. You are quite certain it's even better that way. Putting the arm back on, you try a few flexes.
Whoa. WHOA. It looks like the limiter was somewhere in the port. The hand moves with a speed that is barely possible for your brain to process. On the positive side, you're quite sure that if you punched a fucker in the face, they would have to identify him by DNA. And you have an extra bomb now.

"While I do appreciate that, sir, I'm not anywhere near as brave as anyone else who embarked on this journey. I'm just doing my job. If I could have a few men or women tag along to help with the fishing, that would be great, but I'm not expecting much more than you have already given."

Wait for a response, then head outside.
"I dunno, work assignments are not my thing. Go ask around in the mess, maybe someone'll go with you."

3450
Shut down the arms power source to disable the bomb then remove it.

(( The bombs trigger has to be powered by the arms battery right? ))
((The arm is powered by the your bioelectricity, stored in capacitors.))
[3] Deciding to forgo tinkering, you remove the power module entirely. The countdown stops.
You examine the bomb, thinking about how best to remove it. To your consternation, you find that it's wired to the input processor - in fact, the processor is probably inside the bomb's case. You may attempt to take it apart, but that will be risky, and you're sure that it will start counting again once powered up. Maybe you can replace the processor entirely...
