I think things cluttering shops don't get displaced either.  I don't remember if that's true though.

I mean the items that were made in that shops and were never moved since their making.

Things in the trade depot don't get displaced.

In the current version, you'll have to baby-sit your miners while they dig near water regardless (unless you intend to flood with floodgates) however, in the next version "channel" digging has completely changed; such that i believe the miners now sit OUTSIDE the channel when they dig it.   :D</STRONG>

Fixed.

It was just bugging me too much.

That kind of stuff is already going into the next version.

Well, the game already runs as fast as it possibly can on your computer, so there really isn't much that can be done when it comes to speeding up time.

Remember that there must be at least one tile in the zone that covers the water and one on the ground next to that tile, the water cannot be salt water if its to be a drinkable source, and it must also be accessible.

Also, make sure there's no wildlife to scare your dwarves away like the others said.

No, that just turns off population increase from immigration.

Stuff is just randomly placed around the fortress.  There's a few exceptions to this, but I'm not sure you'd like to know as it would make getting that special equipment a bit too easy for your adventurer.

Its just something Toady threw together to end a fortress.  Its not really  supposed to make sense

Wouldn't that make the room a lag generator?

The liaison will meet with your leader/mayor in a meeting hall or office as explained above.  Traders from other races will meet with your broker/treasurer in the same places.  As far as I know the broker will help haul stuff to the depot and won't trade until everything designated for trade is hauled in to the depot(at least I haven't managed to have him trade before everything is there).

If your dwarves spend a lot of time underground the sun will bother them and make them throw up (even if they like working outside).  I don't recall any message in the profile saying that they've adapted to live underground though.

Sheesh, no need to throw a fit there.

The way Magus described it is the way the 2d version worked.  If that has changed (I see no reason for it to have changed) then its a relatively recent change.
