This they do.

Or did you mean nobles with prearranged tombs?  I haven't had a noble with a private tomb die, but they are probably greedy enough to want to keep their stuff.  Removing their ownership of the tomb and other rooms before they die might help, but only if you know when they are about to die.</STRONG>

Yeah, they keep their stuff.  Make sure to place a few chests and cabinets in the tomb, you'll want it unless you like a messy ex-noble room.

Nobles don't normally haul, but they do help when hauling items to the trade depot.  So yes, the one that gave the mandate can be punished if the item he hauled is prohibited for export and is traded.  I think it's amusing to see a noble beaten to death because of his own dumb mandate =D  It's even better when it's one of those retarded nobles who keep mandating for the construction of diamond items.

I think they just enjoy punishing my jewelers =[

The dwarves punished are those that hauled the item to the trade depot (I'm pretty sure anyways)  That's the only way I can explain random nobles getting punished for that kind of mandate violation.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: food stockpile: "prepare food"
« on: November 05, 2006, 08:16:00 pm »
I'm confused about this too.  I'd like to have stockpiles where there can only be prepared food (regardless of what's in it) for the meeting halls far from the farms.

Coal bars = coke at the smelters

DF Gameplay Questions / Caravans and their guards
« on: November 04, 2006, 11:31:00 pm »
Well, it seems to me that the reason wagons have such a hard time moving into a fortress is because of the guards they have hovering around them.  They sometimes get in front of the wagon and force it to walk over the guard (takes quite a bit of time).  It's the worst when they're trying to cram into the trade depot, where they have to walk over countless creatures.  It would be neat if maybe the guards could keep out of the wagons' way?  Maybe walk along one side or the other instead of on top.

On an unrelated note: as I was writing this, one child in my fortress went into the bunk bed area solely for the purpose of beating up one of my berseking former soldiers (missing an arm, and now both).  He's defenitely going to go into my army =P

Edit:  It was his mother.  The dwarf child killed his own berseking mother.   =[

I don't think there's a way to access animal dissection.

I don't think it discriminates on material.  What w said is probably what's happening.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How many dining room tables do they need?!!
« on: October 25, 2006, 10:28:00 pm »
This'd be why I always put a table in the offices.  Dwarves like to sit while they eat more than having their food on a proper surface.

You should be worried when they start asking for something you have no idea what it could be.  One of my mechanics got possessed the other day and asked for some specific ore I didn't have (even though I mined every kind but the last and had at least one bar of each)

So yeah, I didn't feel like fighting the demons was worth this dwarf's life.  I could always train one other master mechanic and not lose a chunk of my population.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Collecting bolts
« on: October 18, 2006, 11:21:00 pm »
I'd rather have all used bolts break once they're used until piles can be added to one another.  It's annoying having to make my marksdwarves change their weapons so they drop the quiver with 1 bolt in it and get another.

You don't need the furniture stockpile for the barrels, only the bins.  I rarely use furniture stockpiles because of all the delays it makes (it's horrible when you're filling a pond with a few buckets =| )

You can place a specific piece of furniture by hitting tab when choosing the piece.  It'll expand the list and show you each and every single one of the items in there.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Peas in the bed: Uneasy sleeping
« on: November 10, 2007, 12:17:00 am »
Do you have workshops above your sleeping areas?  The same rules apply on the z levels.  Also, don't have training dwarves around your sleeping dwarves either, their bleeding and sparring also disturbs your dwarves.

If you have legendary miners around they're your best bet.  Highly skilled axemen are good too.  Just make sure the dwarves you send against those things have insane stats, otherwise they won't last very long.

Oh and a bit of armor would help them last a bit longer, but not much.  Don't bother with it if your dwarves aren't skilled in armor since it will only slow them down.
