They eat the dirt when they pulverize rocks.  Hey, they're dwarves.

It's not impossible.  Highlight the dwarf.  Hit enter to do promotion.  Hit enter again to promote the dwarf to squad leader of his own squad.

I agree, the military screen is not great.  Especially with the bug that if you assign a dwarf to a squad that's listed further down in the list, the screen messes up which dwarf is squad leader on additional assignments.

DF Suggestions / Re: Building Constructions - Material List Order
« on: February 15, 2008, 12:27:00 pm »
Yes, the material selection for construction needs some kind of revamp.

Or maybe selection of material should come first, and then the player selects the type, and after placement, returns to the construction type list.  Like 'b'uild -> 'C'onstruction -> limestone blocks -> wall -> placement -> wall -> placement -> floor -> placement ... etc.

Haven't you ever read The Giving Tree?  All elven trees are like that.  The trees give and give and give and then the elves sit on them.

I'd love to have some signage.

Also, you need a steel mechanism for attaching to a steel floodgate to hold back magma.  As it is, a rock mechanism will melt, destroying the floodgate.

This was my second dragon attack actually.  The first one hit a single trap too, but did not suffer quite as much damage.  He had 2 or 3 brown injuries.

This dragon pictured above was dispatched easily by a couple of axedwarves who charged while it was unconscious.

This is the result of 1 single stonefall trap on a dragon:

My solution so far has been to build small stockpiles near the workshops and set them to allow only certain types of stone.

Heh, I remember in the 2d version one of my old forts I had the metalsmith (who had arrived with a wife) working at the forge with a swarm of his children gathering around him when suddenly one of his masterwork bolts fell in the chasm attached to a dieing ratman, and he went berserk and killed 6 children and mangled the other 3. Only 1 out of the 9 children survived after over a year of recovery in a bed. Funnily enough, his wife was still estatic after the loss of 8 children, however she later went berserk and mangled her husband's head by throwing her baby at him when one of HER masterwork bolts was lost in a similar fashion. The baby was unharmed.</STRONG>

Just... wow.

*Sigh*  My legendary animal trainer (and marksman) just went beserk because whatever it is he needed for his creation wasn't available.  This is the 3rd talented dwarf I've lost this game, I think.  I think he needed some kind of uncut gem, but I don't know which.

I think I neglected to mention that the tower itself (Orthanc) is called Orthak by the dwarves, or "Large Lock".
