I was right.  He made an aluminum battle axe that's worth 200,000!

Sadly, my most valuable item to date is a toy axe.

However, a weaponsmith just withdrew from society and collected 3 aluminum, 2 limetone, logs, leather, and silk cloth.  Got my fingers crossed that it'll be a real kick-ass valuable weapon.

I can't be the only person who thinks it makes no sense that the entire squad sits around the sleeping squad leader?  It means you have to watch each squad like a hawk to make sure they're on duty when needed, and swap out leaders if the old one goes off to eat, drink, or sleep.

Doh, fixed.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Soldiers hang around their sleeping squad leader
« on: September 30, 2006, 10:43:00 pm »
This probably isn't as noticeable if they're sleeping in their barracks.  I set mine to sleep in their own rooms though.  And it's very creepy to have all the soldiers (awake) crowded around the squad leader as he sleeps.  Not only that, but this means whenever the squad leader is sleeping (or eating or drinking), the squad is not at their patrol.  And then when their squad leader goes back on patrol, the rest of their squad takes their own breaks for sleeping, eating, drinking.  Is there a way to keep squads yet stop this weird (and creepy) behavior?  Is this a bug?  It seems to make large squads a penalty, but if you make a lot of smaller squads you suffer from having to micromanage them all.

Yeah, after the first time your one main bridge is destroyed by a jerk dwarf, you learn to design in redundancy.  I make my main corridor bridges in 3 parts now (2x1x2 or 1x3x1) and usually have minor bridges further up and down the river/chasm.

One way to check is if there are merchants present in your area, you can get a list at your depot of everything you own.  Sadly, it's not well sorted and not available all the time.

If nobles are so noble, why are they so darn easy to kill?  Why are other dwarves so willing to kill them?

It's all a sham!

Our expedition is called "Candybreakfasts".  These dwarves have a sweet tooth.

Our random area is called, "The High Fleshy Gates".  It was random, I swear.

Yeah, turtles are a real killer.  I make sure to bring some at start, I buy them from every caravan that brings them, I specifically ask merchants to bring them, and I have an indoor stockpile just for them.  Nearly every strange mood seems to need them.

I just got at least 2 sieges in year 1058.  In fact, the second was weird because there was no "vile force of darkness" message.  I just loaded the game and I started getting job cancellation messages due to goblins.  Double-checking the announcements confirmed there was no warning.

Yes, it's taken a lot of patience.  I haven't yet tried out any macro stuff; I've just built up muscle memory laying out the constructions.  It is inhabited.  The ground floor is the barracks, armory, and training.  Second floor is the dining hall (one huge room with a hundred or so tables and chairs).  Third floor food storage, kitchens, stills.  Fourth floor lounge (unfinished).  Fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth floors are residences.

In the basement you'll find stockpiles and most workshops (to keep the noise away from the residences).  The noble rooms are also underground, to allow engraving.

Nope, just dwarves.  They're under contract from Saruman.

How about Isengard?
