You could, in theory, use a drawbridge? You'd have to calibrate it and sight it in, but it could work.
As far I know, bridges only throw things up, not at the specified direction...

Modified by whether they mate for life or just bang everyone.
Since creatures don't "bang" at DF, they spread via spores, I recommend using the term "mating".
Matriarchal cultures would be a nice addition to many races, but humans don't seem to ever had one anywhere on our story, so I think it's more for a elvish stuff...

No, but I used to have an iron morningstar stuck in my hand for a while before I noticed it.
Wait, they stay in you?
Never killed anyone before the bugger get a change of pulling it out of my stomach...

The lower center of gravity for (Human) woman gives them advantages with a few weapon types, iirc polearms for example. Also using bows and definitley crossbows is a nobrainer for both represented sexes.
Even with crossbows men were preferably, because require some extra strength to load, if we are speaking of the common european ones, even tough women could handle them quite well(Read: Better than most males), in fact, even a child could reload one, it just take a good amount of time to do so. Chinese's chu-ko-nu is a "semi-automatic" crossbow, which didn't make any preference on wielder.

A superior silver bolt stuck in my left lower arm

That's actually damn awesome piece of jewellery. Have you ever tried how many bolts/arrows you could take into your body and survive?
I modded arrows in my game to have the contact area of 20, so they aren't always lethal, I got about 17 of them(covers an entire page) stuck everywhere...

Note, I modded my elves to wear metal armor and use metal weapons.
Be aware that elves are quite fast, and their weapon masters will be getting 5 turns each 3 ones your dwarves does... They pretty much kick ass without the tree hugging part...

I feel really unbay12-ish... I'm surprised that Townarrows even survived as long as 5 years already, with population of 140 and regular goblin sieges D:
Don't worry, if you were bay12-ish your fortress would already be flooded with forgotten beasts, goblins, kobolds and a couple of cave spiders while you poured magma on everything by the fourth year, at most.

My fort lacks Dwarves of Steel, I've got 14 almost-peasant spear/pike/macedwarves and two sword elites with legendary +2 fighter and sword, in full bloodsteel armor. They usually kill everything that's small, but against anything that has a thick fat/skin layer they're completely useless.
My master swordsdwarf fend off a roc with ease(well, minus one foot, but that almost don't count), I don't see many problems with swardsdwarves against big enemies...
I thought that pikes couldn't be wield by dwarves at all.
Don't maces do edge damage?

I get goblin sieges on regular basis, as well as merfolk, serpentfolk, ratkin, direwolf necromancer ambushes, without instigating any war; I don't get attacked by sylvans(elves) even though I kill every one of their caravans every time they show up on the map:(
They get more angry if you offer wood to them than if you kill them all, also, if one survives, it hurts diplomacy more than if everyone got killled.

Return was used for other stuff back when it was created, just like the SysReq key, which don't have any use now...
Isn't it merged with the 'prt scr' key? That sees use.
Well, if you account for that...

That sucks. I thought they were my friends.
They're just pretending so they can stab you in the back
I just can't believe that you didn't pretend it so you can stab their backs instead. Well, sneaky smartass moves aren't dwarven anyway...

Don't worry, they will try to kill you again when the first siege arrives, be sure to be prepared, that is an know bug (feature?) and they will get fixed once some other goblins enter the map via sieges (not ambushes though).

Yeah, I usually use macros to go around this, but a paint function would be nice.
