I suggest you sign up to Gaiden v2 as a start. I mean, I like magic girls, but the plot is very thick for you to get into.
You sign up by copying the character sheet at the first page, and filling it out, and you play simply by, well, observe, interact so on. From what I can understand if you want to do a significant action like combats or for example arguing, the dice is rolled for you and depending on your stats, the result is determined.
