DF Gameplay Questions / are FBs hostile to werebeasts?
« on: September 13, 2014, 06:06:36 pm »
back in 0.34, I've had silk farms with giant cave spiders, but they have a max age. with FBs, this won't be a problem. they're also far more aggressive than sipders in 0.40, which, again, is in my favour.

the problem is finding an immortal bait. right now I have a troll in the bait station but I haven't actually caught the beast yet, giving me time to replace it with something more eternal. I have a werebeast caged right now, and I was wondering if FBs are hostile to them, so I can replace the troll with a werebeast for eternal silk.

there's a forgotten beast with webs down in the basement. I've set up a trap area, complete with a sacrifice boar and a table for it to enjoy its meal in luxury, but it hasn't taken the bait yet. I think it's because I set the trap on a cavern layer with a massive lake, which screws up its pathfinding, or it's too distracted by the wildlife there.

Now it's hunting crundles in the third cavern layer. I forgot to seal the downward passage. On the bright side, it is providing me a service by getting rid of crundles. on the other hand, this means the web farm has been delayed yet again.

create a fortress or another adventurer for the sole purpose of killing yourself.

obviously we need to devise a system that washes sleeping dwarves from a dormitory  to their workshops while removing the water after the deed is done.

I feel like an aquifer embark is mandatory for this project, though a river may be acceptable, but more difficult.

the fort hero of the year goes to helmet snake 1, who bravely perished in combat with a towering scorpion. during the fight the snake managed to wound him, injecting a fatal dosage of necrosis causing venom.

The beast is currently dying. hopfully the fort can harvest its corpse so I could make delicious beast biscuits.

RIP: helmet snake 1

medal of legendary bravery.

I caught a giant cave spider and a cave croc. Weaponization is still in progress though as there's a goblin siege out side that I have to worry about.

turns out my previous wall design, while preventing goblins from climbing in, does not prevent marksdwarves from climbing out. I'm devoting a lot of dwarfpower to fix that.

On a happier note, the giant dingoes are at war with the siege now. Hopefully the dingoes will chase them away, though from what i've seen so far they need at least a 3 to 1 advantage.

I found a magma pool fairly close to the surface, so that's what I'm gonna be using for fuel from now on.

Never used one before. Does the magma run out if you don't refuel it?

EDIT: shit. I just checked the wiki. That is awesome.

a weremongoose showed up during a siege and was obliterated by goblins before I could do anything.

it managed to infect a goblin recruit, but for some reason the recruit was not hostile to the rest of the siege.

divine metal is stronger than steel, but weaker than addy. I think it's even stronger than masterwork mithril. I wouldn't bet my dwarves against them.

when migrants arrive, the jobs screen shows them as new arrivals instead of no job so it's much easier to find them.

my absolute favorite feature is probably the decreased eating/drinking time. dwarves take like a second to drink now and it's making things so much faster. A project that used to take 1 month could now be done in a week simply because dwarves don't spend half that time having drinking contests.

Coins are good for smelting, but a lot of work if you want a big payoff, 50x the metal bars, but you have to separate the coins into individual coins rather than stacks using the merchants to break the stack...

i think it's moreso a waste of fuel than anything else. even with the new trees i'm hesitant to perform tree genocide as I might screw myself out of the fuel industry until the trees grow back.

Now the archangel can probably solo a full fortress, considering it's FB size, covered in divine metal, and is rather skilled.

The brilliance of dwarf mode is that you don't have to try to kill it. assuming angels are building destoryers, you can easily lure the archangel into a room of furniture and trap it forever. if it's not, then lure it with kittens or elves or something. you should probably still seal up the vault before breaching through it with a co ordinated attack.
