201. disembowelled by an elf who proceeds to devour your guts while you're still alive.

I think I would rather stay in my village than live as an adventurer.

the worst thing you could probably get is a trap component or a crossbow, but even those are still kinda badass.

I have giant cave spiders guarding my entrance, so my results are similar except the dwarves are much happier.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Most stylish doomsday lever
« on: June 17, 2014, 08:46:23 am »
Hmmmm. Capture a siege or two of enemies. Danger-room train them to legendary +5. The lever should 1) set them on fire and 2) unleash them (preferably by dropping them from the ceiling), resulting in a !!DOOMSDAY!! lever, it should also flood the fortress with pressurized magma just to be sure.

a captured or defeated siege prefers to run away rather than fight, so this method might not be fast enough for what he's going for.

my giant cave spiders finally gave birth one year after modding in [child:1]. the stats aren't very good, but it is female, and a strong breeding base is essential before I get too picky.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Do hammerdwarves also carry shields?
« on: June 16, 2014, 09:33:52 pm »
definitely profiecent hammer dwarf. with the skills in armor user and dodger, you gain benefits to defense with very little benefit to offense. shield user improves the frequency of shield bash, but shields aren't as powerful as proper weapons. with skills in hammerdwarf and axedwarf, you can parry attacks as well as hit more frequently, giving you an offensive edge as well as defensive.

prioritize weapon skills before other combat skills.

alligators are aggressive, so your job is really easy. create an easy access tunnel into your fort and rig the entrance with cage traps. put a delicous kitten chained close to the entrance. they should come up any minute.

shields are incredibly useful for blocking attacks, but I'm not sure if sinking points into it at embark is a good idea. migrants often come with pre-existing weapon skills, including shield user, so you will likely not run out warriors.

hammers are almost always singlegrasp weapons, so your dwarves can almost always carry a shield.

"The king has arrived with his entire entourage! You are now a Mountainhome!"

Awesome.

Well, the king is actually a queen. Sure, that works for me. Except...she's actually a vampire. She's listed as "Nil Gatizolon, queen vampire". Is that common?

from what I've heard, that's pretty common. Vampires are immortal, and thus more likely to have enough experience to reach king status.

can a dwarf really get too drunk? they drink alcohol all their lives, surely he must've built up tolerance by now.

I've been too busy watching soccer to play, but I did get a nasty bowman ambush lately.

almost took out one of the newbies, but luckily they attacked my elite quarters instead.

a short while ago, I had a forgotten beast made of charcoal come into my fort and eventually clashing with a guard dragon at one of my entrances into the 3rd lvl cavern.

The beast managed to beat the dragon to death, but caught on fire. Soon its upper body turned yellow, then cyan, and eventually every part of it was burning. But it refuses to die. What's really irritating is that my military can't target it for some reason, but my civilians can still see it and run away. Moreover, it can still breathe poison gas even though it lost its ability to move. I managed to seal that part of the fort off, but the beast problem has not been solved. I'm just waiting to it to burn to death.

I think it's just because my lasher was unbelievably strong, so it felt less like a kick and more like a brick to the face at mach 10.

what ability does it have? if it's poison gas or vapors, you can easily snipe it with marksdwarves while it's trapped in the water.
