just had a goblin siege immediately after this siege. much weaker than the previous because

a) it has no mounts
b) it has no ranged

still lost a few dwarves to the siege, but manged to lock the gates before bad things could happen.

when i did that, something incredible happened. a professional marksdwarf got locked out on his way back. a spearmen squad was approaching him. what does he do? shoot them. several of them died, but he got knock in the water. what he do? continue shooting them.
either way he repelled a whole squad of spearmen just on his own. it was incredible. the dwarf is now accomplished

to qualify, these dwarves not only end their own lives due to sheer stupidity, but also the lives of fellow dwarves around it. or they do something so tremedously stupid it has to be documented.

a good example would be getting killed during a goblin siege on the same tile as an entrance door, allowing your fortress to get swarmed.

let's hear it. worst of the worst. NAMES are required to better identify each dwarf.

you know i didn't think about storytelling when i was making the poll, but you're absolutely right. it's big part of the community and very important for DF players.

i thought about security as a whole, but i broke it up into military and traps because I feel like each provide a different essence of satisfaction when you use it.

i've added it to the poll (storytelling i mean) i might combine military and traps into security if i get enough requests (constructions do provide security, but i don't want to mesh it in for obvious reasons)

i forgot to list my choice.

tough one really. i play for happiness of my people (that's what happiness means). when a dwarf dies, i usually feel conflicted (doesn't permit me from making a personal grave for the corpse, i'm a hypocrite).

i completely understand that most overseers will probably pick a combination of the above. i wanna you to think about the decision. make you wonder what you're trying to accomplish for your fort and what makes you most satisfied. this is nowhere near a complete list, so if your drive, let's hear it out.

i also feel like the choices can overlap, but i think they're broad enough that there are some aspects unique to each choice.

i'm liking the moat ideas so far. even though i scrapped my project i still want to add to the discussion. i want to incorporate the simple pit trap with the moats. probably deadlier with magma moats.

kinda ruin the point of moats, but i find the idea of goblins suddenly falling into a pit of magma due to the lack of a floor very hilarious. i totally agree the idea of walls immediately surrounding moats.

i also think moats should periodically(when you want it to) flood the land around it (obviously not the fort if my knowledge of walls is correct). reduces FPS, but potentially !!fun!! during a siege. probably done with pump stacks somehow.

in one of my new forts, i checked the noble screen and saw that my mayor lacked everything he needed (i only give rooms to nobles)

turns out he lost the election. this is four year fort and my mayor didn't die. he became a miller

so i'm guessing there's random elections every once in a while.

i recently got sieged by goblins on mounts accompanied by war jabberers (way worse than trolls). the main problem was that a squad of bowmen was on the other side of the river and they have amphibious mounts. oh and they were led by one eyed pig demon. everyone else got walled off and picked off by crossbowmen. there was a cool battle between a squad of goblin crossbowmen (15-20 i'm guessing?) and my own squad. after like two or three crossbowmen got picked off by bolts, the rest ran away like the cowards they are, leaving me a lot of time to pick off the remaining macemen left (their hammerlord got caught in a cage trap. don't ask why he's their leader). currently, the fort side of my fort is clear, but the side opposite to the river isn't. my only causality so far is a dwarven child who was too stupid to get out of the way. the remaining bowmen got stuck in a tunnel i dug ages ago (it's bridged off so they can't get in). i'm preparing a spike trap surprise for them.

still need to get the elven caravan out of the fort. i'm scared they're turning my dwarves into hippies.

a problem is that the mayor is dependent on how many friends and ppl you know. the more guys a dwarf knows, the better the dwarf's chance of being mayor. if you lock him up, eventually some other bastard's gonna get way more friends and be mayor.
