Taking back your papers, Brutus looks over them dismissively before going and setting them down on a table. With a sigh he looks at all of you.
"Well, at least you all should be adequate. Now then, your rooms on on the second floor. You can check them out if you wish or you can stay here and get introduced to each other... Actually,
no. Just introduce yourselves here and you can shoot the shit until the preliminary mission info gets sent from the Governer. Gods only know how much shit I'd be in if one of you was in a feud with the other and ended up shanking each other. Since I'm a nice guy, I'll start."

The huge man clears his throat and stands straighter before speaking.
"I'm Officier Brutus and I collect dragons."
He sits, thus giving all of you a chance to introduce yourselves how you want.

Penal Force is a game based partially on Rimworld’s setting where two factions, the freedom loving and resource hungry Coalition and the Authoritarian and resource hungry Empire, are vying for the control of a resource rich planet. You’re a force under the control of the Coalition being made to help with that by expanding the penal colony for the Coalition to gain a foothold on the planet..

The two factions each control expansive areas of space and are currently locked in a cold war. Under the control of both factions are worlds in various areas of technological development though most don’t know it. This means that within reason players could, for example, easily play a knight from a feudal world next to a cyborg gunslinger from a Rimworld. There is also magic, though none of you can use it except through enchanted items as it requires many mages to attain any appreciable effect. As a side note, you tend to not see enchanted items that are more complicated than a few hunks of metal attached using cloth due to each individual part needing to be enchanted with the same enchantment. Quicker and easier to just make a really nice sword and then slap a sharpness enchantment on it.

The system will be using fudge dice, to resolve conflicts. Everybody gets four dice to use. After rolling and seeing how many successes a character has they add their skill bonus to the roll. Then, their equipment bonuses will be added. Then the winner is decided. For attack rolls, if the winner is the attacker the loser will lose a dice. When out of dice, the character is incapacitated and should their allies not rescue them they will die at the mission’s end. Rescuing characters means you lose one die on all checks until you leave them or otherwise aren’t restricted by them. This lost die isn’t counted towards incapacitation. As a side note some enemies may try to take incapacitated allies. They will receive the same penalties as rescuing an ally.

If one is so inclined, they can heal a wounded ally and allow them to fight as if they were good as new. To succeed on a heal check you must roll your dice plus your relevant stats against the number of wounds the character has taken times 3. If you succeed you heal a wound.

Scene theme: Those fuckin' holy knights be keeping us down man!

You know, despite the whole of the land being controled by overzealous knights that execute people with any taint to them at all, and despite the fact you're fairly certain that at least one of your companions is willing to rip your entrails out and hang you with them, this whole caravan ride is rather peaceful. Maybe it's because of the driver's jolly aditude. Maybe it's the fact that he's paying everyone on the caravan not to kill each other just yet. And of course, there's always the possiblity that people are just scared of the many ton lizard that shoots lazers from it's eyes propelling the craft. In unison you all watch as it fries and eats a bird in it's path.
...
"So! We're going to be getting close to finding the rumored resting place of one of the sins. I'm not worried that we'll have any trouble on the way there but perhaps you want to ask some questions about the area and likely threats before I set up shop?"
Ah yes, his shop. He pays okay for any items you find on the journey that you wish to part with, and of course, sells them off to dumb tourists, rich bored people, and you guys at cut throat prices. It's very standard of businesses really, so don't blame him if you accidentally sell your buster sword and can't get it back because it's too expensive.
You slowly start to wonder how he gets any buisness since he tends to hide in the woods but you feel like it's better to keep it a mystery.

It's a fairly typical Friday for you all. You got up this morning, went to school, sat through some hours of instruction... Well, fairly typical as your homeroom teacher, Mr. Johnson, asked for you all to come to his classroom after school. And so, for one reason or another you've decided to do as you're told, perhaps it's simple obedience to the man, or perhaps it's curiosity about just what it is he wants. After all, you aren't involved in any relevant clubs as far as you know and there aren't any school activities coming up that you know about. Whatever the case, the door is currently locked and the lights are out, so it's likely he went to the bathroom before you arrived and will be back in a bit. Might as well talk to these losers while you wait right?

“I know that things are bad. They’re always bad for you guys though, you’ve seen the shows. Your enemies are eldritch monsters of such power that even with being the equivalent an army in your own right. But you gotta keep up hope otherwise it’s not just you that’ll be suffering anymore.”
~???

There’s something in the city of Ecletyo and it is not right. Typical I know. Obviously something has to be done about it. That’s where you come in hopefully. When civilization’s door is getting knocked on by various nasty creatures that mundane people can’t fight are unable to comprehend, it’s typically high school aged children that answer it and tell it that they aren’t buying. That’s you guys. Magic girls. Obviously you’ve read the comics and seen the shows, so you know this might not be pretty but generally your situation is pretty dire by the time you get contacted. Tsukaima are kind of pricks like that. Anyways, some things to know before getting started. First of all, you’ll want these.

Rulebook

Reference sheets. Magical talents, basic moves, etc.

Magic Girl media is present and it’s fully possible that your characters have seen it.

You will not need to pick crisis at the start as you will not be Magic Girls from the start. More
convenient for me to be able to get you all up to speed and appropriately traumatized at once.

If you feel that there’s something that should be specifically noted in the city include it at the bottom of your RP sheet.

And here’s the sheets needed, borrowed from TwinWolf’s ongoing Magic burst game.

I’ll be choosing the characters based on both quality of the sheets and the behavior of the players.

This is it, the big first day. No matter what previous schooling you had, if any, it’s hard not to be somewhat excited and in awe at the majestic front gates of the academy, towering so high that even a giant would be hard pressed to touch the top. Those with any experience in such matters would accurately be able to assume that the gate, and indeed all the walls, are made with magic, the stone flowing together a little too perfectly, the mortar holding up a little too well, the lack of dirt and grime affecting it. Really, it is to be expected that mages worked on it though, it’s simply the most convenient way to do construction even with the constant danger of an inexperienced mage working on the project. With that in mind, the anti-magic field was probably put in afterwards. As you walk further in past the massive red metal doors, probably some kind of magic alloy, (possibly from the school's patron deity?) you would approach a gathering of other students in front of a stage with a rather… interesting group of people, a masked shirtless man and an appropriately fancily dressed monster woman, (Maybe some kind of flying monster?) a rather small faerie man on a walking stool and a pony sized centaur woman and finally twin mantis women. Recalling off the top of your heads you would recognize some of them and their names with the exception of the masked one and the well dressed woman. The mantis women are well known as the two monster biology teachers at the school, Tsubaki and Akira… you forget their last names. The faeire is the history teacher, Brom Sparkleson. The centaur is of course the food preparation teacher Layara Foreststrider. Somewhere you're sure the rogue’s teacher Kate is hiding. Damn rogues.

A tall, stout, bearded man clears his throat from the front of the stage, his voice cutting clear over the gathered students with ease. The assembled group quickly ceases talking as he raises a hand for them to stop. Taking one last look around the crowd he nods before he begins speaking in a voice that’s both authoritative and very much carrying the brough of the emerald isles to the North.

“Good morning, it’s nice to see so many new faces arriving to our prestigious academy! I’d like to say a few words of thanks before I get onto the bits I’m sure you all are most interested in. First I would like to thank our returning teacher of those who are choosing the warrior's path for continuing to work despite the accident with that artifact,”
The masked man raises his hand in acknowledgement. “, Next I’d like to thank our lovely new healing teacher for accepting our invitation to work here. I’d also like to extend gratitude to the other teachers that have stayed at the academy for the previous year. Now then, on to business, I’m sure you all are itching to get to the famous opening gathering for first years to meet, greet, and with any luck form into teams… though those of you who prefer to not to get involved with a concrete group are free to offer yourselves for groups with less than the standard six person group size or other groups… but some things to keep in mind when you’re socializing and making merry. First of all, thank the cooks if you see them, they work hard on the buffet each year. Second, Don’t challenge others to fights just yet, the fighting pits have to be cleaned still. Finally… have fun.”

With the announcements seemingly done there is a round of applause before the gathered students file into the great hall that is indicated behind the stage. Entering it, you would note… well, the first thing is probably that the man who was speaking never actually said who he is or what he does. But the next thing would be noticing how great the food in here smells; various dishes from this region and those from others, one could find any food they want here. There’s also a table of various drinks being manned by a halfling on a stool looking generally happy as is often the case with them. The hall -being, well, great-is easily large enough for you all to easily navigate and form up into your own groups without having to worry about getting in the way. As you each go to do your own thing, a thought comes to mind. Just who are you going to group up with now, and what are you going to call yourselves?

Have you ever wondered who it is that trains all those brave adventurers who run dungeons and smite evil and whatever else for fun and profit? Have you ever wanted to to be one of those people and make mad dosh or die? Then you've come to the right school, here at Apollyon's Academy for the Adventurously Adept we teach the next generation of adventurers on various subjects from the history of our profession, to cooking and preparing ingredients in the field, to how to take a cannon ball to the gut without batting an eye.* Of course, before you can come you need to know the rules of the academy.

Today was the day, whether you were a hobo with an angry tadpole or the professor's own flesh and blood, you were going to get your pokedex, the final piece of the puzzle needed to deemed an official pokemon trainer. There was just one problem... The lab is being blocked off by a large Arcanine and of course, Officer Jenny. Now, a Jenny with a Growlithe would be worrying enough, but this is clearly a very important matter if the more experienced one is being used. Jenny is explaining something about patience or some crock like that but you aren't really listening until the end of the speech.
"... Now I know you're all excited to get your pokedexes, but with the recent appearance of a third gang kidnapping pokemon a place with as many pokemon as the lab needs another security... Oh, they're done, you can go in now."
You all look up to see two more of the Jenny sisters each with an Arcanine of their own exit the building. One of them seems to stare at you all as you enter the sterile environment of Brich's lab. You all can see the large man sigh and shake his head as he turns to tend to something, seemingly unaware of the entrance of your group.

A while back I had an idea for a mostly freeform Pokemon RPG type game. So, I decided to make this thread to get ideas or hear concerns or ideas about what should or should not be in the game. As of now I have a few concrete things planned for the game.

First of all, I want the game to be more like the anime rather than the actual pokemon games though if something from the games isn't contested by the anime or someone runs it by me and I approve it, the game's rulings can take precedence.
Second, I have brought the idea up to someone else and they brought up the concern of starting pokemon. This of course is a valid concern because I don't want people starting with something really powerful or something that turns really powerful early on. So I'm going to offer a group of Starting pokemon early in the game to combat this.
Finally I already have some idea for the plot and location, but I'm not adverse to people offering other ideas.

Spoiler: Your lovely narrator (click to show/hide)
Somewhere, far away... no farther... a bit farther... THERE! Somewhere about that far away people do not behave like us. They have some odd thing about them that makes them anywhere from about as strong as us to able to kill us in one punch. Somewhere in the middle, is you 'heroes'. You are... Martial Artists. You guys get to run around and defend the weak instead of work in an office and feel your soul getting sapped by your painful existence. You are going to fight for the order of the Red Dragon, and find out where that thing he wants is. You know, the thing that crashed through the forest and was quickly taken by some thugs a couple months ago? That thing. Anyways, you... You guys need to fill out these forms before you actually go out and test the system... Huh? I didn't say anything about a system. Just fill out the fucking forms.

... You probably want some explanations. It's a good thing I already wrote them up!
Spoiler: Attack list (click to show/hide)
Each of the attacks and their relevant defense gets the total bonus on the roll added. Also of note is that the stats can be used in the same way as attacking in other situations.

Oh, you don't already know you're perks? Weird. Obviously I already know what they are since I'm looking at you. Well, don't worry, I have a list here as well. If there's any I missed, do tell me and we can negotiate it going on the list.

Spoiler: The map (click to show/hide)

In the heat of the desert there is little for mere mortals. The sands are barren and dry, the rock lands are unfarmable, and the plains lack the fruits and vegetables to sustain a population. It is for this reason all of you are glad for the Master. Glad, but perhaps also annoyed at him. With his disappearance none of you have been able to sleep quite right, the air just feels wrong when he's gone. Whether you're an apprentice of his learning to control the supernatural, or one of his augmented champions, having never seen the light of battle since the before times when there were only tribes and the cities of the coasts were naught but metaphorical clay waiting to be shaped by the hands of the great ones. That is why you all gathered here on the outskirts of Buffalo's Rest packing your supplies onto the great undying elephant for travel. Soon, you shall be off to right the wrongs of that great old fool, and perhaps, you'll do some other stuff as well.

Every level you will get a beneficial mutation that's rolled up by Piecewise's awesome Auto-Morphica.
In this game you journey to find the Master, a senile old wizard with godly powers who escaped his room and is now causing havoc in the wastes. Will you find him? Who knows, but it'll probably be fun along the way, eh?

This thread is to test an idea for a system that borrows an idea from Hotline Miami and uses it as a base for the rest of the system.

The main stats for this system is Accuracy, which lets you beat in the heads of others, and Reactions, which let you beat in the heads of others before they can do so to you. These start at six, which means you roll a d6 for them. Every time you gain a point you upgrade the die by one. (So, d2, d4, d6, d10, d20) after you gain a d20 you gain a d2. So on and so forth until you die or finish the level.

You're all standing in front of the penthouse door. It's a far cry better looking than the old cell door you were each behind at least. Really, you can't believe how lucky you were to each get retrials and be found innocent or otherwise sprung from jail. And now you get to meet the man who apparently planned it. You enter the penthouse and are met with two items of note. One is the lovely view of the California coastline you have from here, place obviously wasn't cheap. The other is the man behind some bullet proof glass, he's wearing a suit and a unicorn mask and each of you can tell that he has long shaggy brown hair. He points to some ear pieces on a table next to the door. Guessing what has to be done you put in the ear pieces and are met with a slightly staticy voice.

"Bob, Arrested for breaking and entering, theft, and burglary. A ghost in the making if I've ever seen one... which I have. Gasmask, arrested for unlicensed use of explosives, destruction of property, and theft. You can handle tools right? Thought so. Duke, Arrested for assaulting an officer, mugging, and one count of assault and battery. Good skills for what you're all going to be doing. And finally, Chuck. Arrested for conspiracy to rob a bank and robbery. You can lead well. I hope to see you continue the trend."

The man turns towards the rest of your new home.

"Now then, feel free to explore the safe house. We're spending a lot of money to keep that fridge stocked so make sure you use the food. The library will be where you can contact me for jobs, and down at the end of the hall where your rooms are is where the firing range is. We only have two guns for each of you, but once you get a job done you can get yourself some new weapons. I'll be off then, Bain needs me do to some more stuff."
With that, the man leaves through a door behind the glass. You can now explore the safe house.

14
I recently decided to make a fairly simple adaption of Payday to a turn based RPG.

In this game you play a new gang of criminals hired by the wonderful mister Bain to do jobs on the west coast. Mostly because you're easily expendable if something goes wrong during this start up. Not that it will. You ARE professionals after all. And the reward is worth it.

Rolls are made on a d100 and with lower rolls being better, A weapons accuracy stat being the number you roll under for that particular weapon to hit.
Anyways, this is the current character sheet and class description. Don't worry about the stuff under the stats, Bain will keep track of that for you.

Another beautiful day in slums of Scaggsville. Won't you agree? Of course not. You live there. It sucks massive balls. You carry a knife everywhere just to be able to have a chance if a gun fight breaks out. Well, you did. Now... oh man, there's little that can stop you. Like that Aidan fellow. Or Cortex. Sergant Armstrong isn't anything to sneeze at either... Okay, so there's quite a few things that can stop you. Best not to think about it to hard. It's not like you'll meet them today right? Heh...
