I like this idea. I mostly like it because there are multiple ways to interpret it. For example: Fighting cosmic horrors with rail guns would be sci-fi set in the Cthulhu Mythos, but Lovecraftian sci-fi could also mean a sci-fi game with Lovecraftian themes(humanity is insignificant, sanity is fleeting, humans weren't mean't to know some things, etc.).

Forum games generally need to be a bit more light-hearted than that, though. I'm seriously considering putting in some sanity mechanics if I go a Lovecraftian route.
Have you thought of We're off to Kill the Marker?
