If there were a real life AU of this game, the equivalent situation to this would be the gang going grocery shopping when a couple thugs start shooting into the air and taking everyone hostage. Aesford would duck for cover and everyone else would be using food as improvised kung-fu weapons.

Ian doesn't consciously realize that he's in any danger, more being in a place that's very much familiar to him. A small cave out in a desert. His home when he's fighting. Of course, he perceives the danger it's in, this time in the form of a particularly large tree dwelling rodent clawing the entrance of the cave. The cave however is fighting back, spikes manifesting everywhere it touches, making wounds that bleed black smoke. He walks up to the rodent and tugs it's legs out from under it leading to it falling, angry looking wolf claws appearing to hold down the enemy. It struggles as Ian walks around to it's head. With an angry growl Ian leans down and plucks an eye from it's socket.... then, he awakens, unknowing of what happened beyond fighting something off

Because it's really not that dark. It's kind of like RWBY before it went to shit. Sure, the universe is kind of dark, but it's really not that bad.
I personally doubt that PW will be able to do anything that isn't wry and at least a little humourous and self effacing.So, in short, you'd be fine with Oro in the style of what he's said about ERoro but you don't like the setting?
I just think that oro seems like a kinda shitty thing to do with the world of ER, limiting it a lot. I mean, PW could tug the plot around till we're the centre of the universe again, but I still think the way Oro is set up would inherently limit an ER setting, which should by rights include every last suburban backwater of the universe.
Oro itself... PW seems to have a lot of ideas for it, which I like. Also, the odd weapons and enemies, along with the developing bosses and urban crawling makes me think of Soulsborne games.
