Backstory: Flavius was born in the northern reaches of the Orthulan empire, in a small town near the Western Forests of the main continent. His father was the town healer/witch, depending on how you saw things, and his mother was a huntress alongside being part of the militia. For his part, Flavius took after his father more, enjoying learning how to alleviate the symptoms of colds, or create salves and teas to make pain go away, alongside learning to use magic to heal more serious injuries. So he grew up, enjoyed his life, and eventually after a night with a girl he fancied he ended up getting married and having a wonderful son, who was his pride and joy. For ten years their family lived further in the forest where the herbs he needed were most plentiful, until the fateful night he received news that bandits had attacked the town, and Flavius was needed to help the survivors. He'd always regret leaving and curse the gods for their cruelty, for when he returned, he found his family dead and his home burned to the ground.
Lost and without a purpose, Flavius wandered, offering his services as a healer and medicine man at a pittance, and making a bit of a name for himself in the process. He'd eventually journey on a boat to Cestulon, and then making his way to Lastreodal. It was there, that he was eventually chosen to become the main medical provider for the crown princess, Eydis, due to his expertise in dealing with injuries both on and off the battlefield.
The deaths of the King and Queen had of course left anyone who worked closely with them reeling, and Flavius was no exception. He wasn't very close to them admittedly, mainly reporting to them when their daughter would be unable to attend to her normal duties, but he still had a good relationship with them as an employee. However, he was more worried about Eydis, who was incredibly distraught over the news. He tried his best to comfort her, the loss of his own family now fresh in his mind again, but he couldn't be sure if he did enough. Still he understood that she was putting on a brave face in these trying times, and could only offer a shoulder to lean on if she felt she needed it.
