Mafia / Re: Why Would You Do That?: A Mafia Misadventure: Day 1, 15/15

Because clearly random voting Org is a policy lynch on him. Hell, I never said policy lynch at all.

SirBayer, why are you defending Org's... Orgness?

Because we call it Orgness. It's like saying Pandarsenic making puns is a scumtell. Yeah, it's annoying. Yeah, it's not helpful. But it doesn't actually mean much, in context.

I'll grant that the only way to catch scum-Org is a policy lynch, but I won't stand behind this right now. It's a bad idea and it won't end well. I am fairly willing to put my bet on a useless town-Org.

(Of course having said that he'll be scum.)

So wait, you see Org doing what you call nulltells, so you assume he's town? That makes no sense at all. You're also not willing to scumhunt him to figure this out. You're also passive about it.

I find it scummy that you both vote Org with a three-minute interval.

But yeah.

Well, yeah. When people jump on the same guy like that, with basically the exact same reasoning, it's often called a bandwagon. Which is scummy.

Not really. Bandwagoning is about voting without any reasoning at all OR trying to ride on someone else's reasoning. But lemme put it this way. What Org is doing is so unnacceptable that people voting him should be a given. Sure, some people are being a touch lazy about the reasoning and you're more than welcome to question them about it. Of course, I notice you've neglected to scumhunt everyone who's wagoned and are only going after one guy. This is a very odd time to tunnel considering you've got a myriad of targets.

So then who's scummier? The guy who's spouting random nonsense or the guy who's buddying? And yet your vote is where it is - on Org. Haven't even FoS'd me. Just defended yourself.

Who's scummier? The defender of another or the defender of himself?

So you're well aware that you're buddying Org. Hell, you're even chainsaw defending him. Now why might that be? You make no effort to tell Org to shape up or anything! And I'd like to remind you that all you've said about Org is that he's spouting nulltells. So I see no reason you should be defending him except that you're scum.

Unvote, vote SirBayer

Okawaru just gave me a badly named randart.

Just had my first stat death.
You really shouldn't put on any unidentified randart you find.
Because it may be cursed and set your intelligence to -1, rendering you unable to remove the curse.

Which is, frankly, bullshit. Right now if you put on something cursed that reduces your Int below 0, there's nothing you can do to solve the problem outside of drinking a potion of brilliance or put on a +int item powerful to get it back above 0. Don't have either or they're not powerful enough? You die.

The only defense is to always use ?oCD. Granted, that's optimal play, but it's also kind of tedious gather as much stuff as possible into your inventory. At the very least, allow ?oCD to detect curses of stuff on the ground. A better solution would be to not generate cursed items at all. Really, what benefit do cursed items bring to the game? With the crazy amount of ?oRC and ?oDC, cursed items are rarely relevant. And the only times they are relevant are when they're stat-deathing you. Not fun. I want to be killed by a monster, not a magic ring that made me too stupid to read a scroll to remove said ring.

I've quickly learned that a lot of people really suck at Poker. Seriously, who goes all-in on a fucking straight draw?

13 players is nearing the point where 4 scum is possible, so I fail to see what makes you think there's only 2 scum.

It's a good thing I decided not to sleep or I would of missed this. Now I can officially kick off my RVS with a vote on Org. Org, what would do you think is the worst thing that can happen to you during the night?

Now I'm tired, see you all tomorrow.

Modding isn't too hard as long as you stay realistic with your goals.

Balancing is impossible, however.

@Janus: The way you're treating everyone suspecting Zrk is extremely scummy. You defend Zrk with absolutely no reasoning whatsoever. You don't try to explain why the attacks against him are bullshit, you don't mention what makes you think he's town, and you certainly provide no reasoning why you're so passive about the whole deal. But this kind of defense? A passive chainsaw defense? Nah, you're obviously scum. Now the only question is if Zrk is scum with you or do you just like buddying?
Say what? I never said that I think Zrk2 is town. Heck, I actually agree with many of the points brought against him. I just thought (and pointed out) that the series of 5 post from 4 different people was a little surprising. Particularly when the latter four of those were within an hour's time.

So why are you defending a player you think is scum?

639
Thanks Org for quoting a hugeass post with a one sentence reponse. Don't bother trimming down the quote or anything, that would be too convenient.

You know what might be cool? Tweaking it so it's two gods facing off, manipulating a population at their whims

If you did that, make the rest of the game survivors and tweak a lot of the abilities to be conversion-type stuff. Course now we're talking an entirely different kind of game, so save all that for another day.

One general thing: giving protection to another player is both boring and weak. Considering that most kills are going to come from the god either directly or indirectly, it won't matter unless the god happens to pick a player an earlier serial killer also chose. I'd make it a roleblock+protection at the very least to help make it less situational.

One problem is how swingy the whole game winds up being. I'm not sure how swingy is too swingy, though. And an actual game will help with balance testing.

At the very least, start writing the flavor.

The problem with quickly wagoning the king then jumping off is that it makes it obscenely obvious that the player is the king.

That explains everything. Unvote.

SaintDraze, we have quite a lot of time left in the day. Why aren't you using that time to figure out who the scum are?

It sees strange to me you would explicitly mention something Super did and claim it was about SaintDraze.
