DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: An Artifact Magnetite Mug..
« on: March 11, 2008, 04:54:00 am »
Unfortunately DF is not recursive.

"There is a picture of a mug being raised by its creator. On the mug there is a picture of a mug being raised by its creator. On the mug there is a picture of a mug being raised by its creator. On the mug there is a picture of a mug being raised by its creator. On the mug there is a picture of a mug being raised by its creator. On the mug there is a picture of a mug being raised by its creator..."

Question is, could the creator draw a picture of an event which had not yet happened?

Are 3 tile wide roads really useful? Since boulders block a 3x3 area, two boulders on each side of the road make it 1 tile wide :

code:

###          XXXDXXX
8###8   ->    XXXDXXX
###          XXXDXXX

Since wagons are 3 tile wide, I always smooth 5 tile wide roads.

I prefer this slight variation of the wiki :
code:

░░░░░░░░░░
░B.░.B░.B░
░..░..░..░
░░░+░░+░░░
░..░XX░..░
░B.░XX░.B░
░░░+░░+░░░
░B.░..░.B░
░..░.B░..░
░░░░░░░░░░

It has a worse ratio (8 dwarves on 100 tiles, compared to 4/49 = 0.0816), but rooms are one tile bigger, it uses 1 door for 2 dwarves, and I prefer large stairs.

What about social skills?
Ever got any legendary liar?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Aren't you a little young for a Strange Mood?
« on: November 28, 2007, 02:23:00 am »
In my last fortress I had about 14 children on total population 140, two of them had strange moods. The first made his wonderful Throne or something, and went back playing with his friends (no Legendary skill gained). The second one falled into melancholy...

DF Gameplay Questions / "I need rocks!"
« on: November 22, 2007, 02:36:00 am »
My engraver dwarf spent more than a year smoothing floors and walls. At last he got the legendary skill and started writing on the walls, and hurray! he drawed masterpieces as if it was eating plump helmet.

But as he was switching meager quarters to great quarters, he was got by a strange mood, and suddenly took a craftsdwarf shop. I was very anxious because my stocks lack many materials... and suddenly

"[My engraver] cries : ``I need rocks!''"

Rocks? Err... you mean, not these?

Unless someone knows what he needs, I guess I have to train a new engraver.

DF Suggestions / Consanguinity
« on: June 05, 2008, 04:15:00 am »
From the dev :
quote:
One dwarf, Cog Bridgedsmith, and nine children, none of them belonging to Cog, escaped into the mountains. Cog became the leader of the dwarves and died 50 years later, and by then, the children had grown up and given rise to a new population of dwarves. However, as there were no pre-existing dwarven sites to settle in, they just roamed the mountains. For a thousand years.

If df handled consanguinity-related genetic disorders, we could get some interesting three-legged dwarves. Maybe even with NO BEARD!

DF Suggestions / Re: Game Stopping Announcements

Even simpler, allow to switch annoucements off. This would save owners of weaker computers (for instance myself) by allowing long-time runs -- since system crashes are far less systematic in the latest versions. The fortress will take care of itself while I take a shower or go shopping.

DF General Discussion / Re: The Obsidian Island
« on: February 05, 2008, 04:26:00 am »
The behaviour should be the same on water, right?
We could try to cause a collapse in water, using a brook or something. If the rock doesn't float, neither would it on magma (even if densities were implemented, d_magma < d_obsidian as well as d_water < d_obsidian).

That reminds me, why is magma always obsidian magma?
