Real life is apparently a thing that gets in the way of running forum games. Who knew? Due to this unexpected complication, updates will be pretty sporadic, but this game isn't dying quite yet!

You choose a rusty dagger to put in each of the octopi's limited slots hammerspace inventory. Inventory screen unlocked!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Said inventory has an undefined number of slots. How many slots does it have?

What situation do the octopi find themselves in? Creativity time! Throw in whatever you want; backstory, setting, some history, and objective, whatever! This won't end up exactly as you suggest, though, just to make it a bit less predictable.

((Heh, yeah. Maybe I can charge the townsfolk for being a night watchman.

Oh, by the way Shade, I am going to be away the first, third, and fourth weeks (well, monday to friday 'weeks') of July and the first week of August. I think I'd be able to make a pseudocode-response-flowchart type thing for the first five days I'm away, although probably not for the three-week stretch. Should I do that and then retire him before leaving for the third week of June, or should I just retire him before I leave for the first week?))

"Shattered"? Argrark only knocked down the wall a little bit. Silly people. Argrark tells the townsfolk that if they rewind his clockwork for him, [edit] and get a carpenter to help him out [/edit] he will rebuild their weak little wall.

I drew a picture of Argrark.

Ah, I see. In that case, that sounds good.

((Ah, that does indeed suck. I dunno about alternate character sheet thingies - I used mythweavers for my sheet, but that's basically just an online version of the physical paper sheet; you have to manually add in feats and whatnot. Probably not very helpful.))

Abomination? What do they mean abomination? Argrark isn't abominable.
Tell the villagers that there is no need for spears and yelling, Argrark is a nice giant. Ask them why they call him mean things like "Aberrant abomination". Try to avoid a fight if at all possible.

While talking, Argrark sizes up the people. How much smaller than him are they? How many spear-wavers are there? Do they look more angry or more scared?

Aw man, I dun got ninja'd! So much for about half this post. *deletes*

I really like it; the art's awesome, and the mechanics are very well thought out. It's very well-paced, too, although if you need to adjust the pace because irl, feel free. I also really like how even though this is completely peace-time, it's still challenging and fun. It's really hard to make games that don't rely a lot on combat, but this one does it very well.

So as I'm working on the next update, what does everyone think of the game so far? I know it might be a little more slow paced that some of you like. And there hasn't been much action. Yet.

But give me some feedback. I'm will to adjust things. Anything you'd like to see in the game?

This pacing is perfect for me, Gives players plenty of time to think about what should be done.

Maybe a spoilered version of each image update with a little grid for building, or something along those lines.?

I would like to see some Dangerous plants myself, or at least potentially dangerous, maybe something with large thorns, or Irritating oils on it.

Sorry to contradict, but I like how the building is more free-form, and I think a grid might kind of ruin that; regardless of whether you as the GM are kind of using a grid to place and space stuff, I like that it seems as if we can build wherever, even if we can't actually.

I can agree with the plants one, though; it would be cool if the scout found some strange and dangerous plant species out in the forest. Carnivorous plants and hidden cave systems, you say? Awesome.

Aye, I like it very much. It'd be awesome if you continued it, Cinder!

Currently, I think the more important objectives are meat, shelter, bedrolls, and metalworking. The kiln/smoker will help with meat and metalworking, the dirt wall with help with shelter, the mine will help with metalworking, the scout might help with meat, the spinning wheel will help with bedrolls, and the white-wisps will help with bedrolls. Ergo:
Digger: leave the trench for now, help the guy building the kiln/smoker thing.
Smoker-maker: Put it inside the wall-building area.
Door-maker: make a shovel for the wall-building guy.
Wall-builder: keep wall-building.
New guys: gather a bunch of whitewisps, pile them with that other whitewisp-cotton we've got up there.
Gideon: work on the spinning wheel.
Miner: keep mining.
Scout: keep tracking.

No update tonight. It seems like Shadestyle's post has the most favor. Along with tracking the footprints.

A diet of only fruit won't last long. Meat and a way to cook it will be needed soon.

Speaking of which, would it be possible to collect the seeds from the plants we grab? Starting a cotton farm would be nice.
Yep. Planting one bulb will yield a Whitewisp plant. You'll need a hoe to till the soil. Uprooting and replanting the wild whitewisps is viable too.
Also, using high powered night vision, I gleaned some potentially important hypothetical information.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Like the others were saying, the guards didn't just look in those two directions. They were patrolling around the area, I just had to put them somewhere for the picture.
Alright. For the future, we should definitely get a better supply of food. For the meat, the first thing I thought of was bow hunting, but then I realized there's a hunting implement way simpler than a bow: bolas. It's just two rocks tied together with string, and you throw them at animals' legs, wrapping around and effectively tying their legs together, at which point you spear them. Bonus points because you can choose not to finish them with the spear and instead have a captured animal.
We still need string though.

Synthesis achieved! Woot! Sorry about forgetting to put in the species name, and after I suggested it originally, too :( Ozarck has gained an achievement: Follow Your Own Advice, Dummy! :P

Ixid farmers: cultivate any species that can exist in the shallow caves.
Dirigid Riders: Determine if any of the shallow caves is suitable as a breeding ground for the Ixid and Dirigids. Also, begin carrying bits of various things to repel, bribe, or fend off predators - bits of food, nasty smelling stuff, small rocks, sticks, etc.

((Shadowhammer, you got any thoughts on ongoing evolution? I have a few ideas, but I feel like it's pretty open ended right now: camouflage, greater senses, vocals, speed, more radiation resistance, some kind of defensive screen, like the octopus ink (I'm still trying to go completely harmless, but I keep trying to add some kind of defense too, lol. Originally I had wanted them to be so harmless and tasteless - non nutritional that everything eventually just ignored them.), maybe heightened energy consumption so that, again, they are less nutritional to others, or I could evolve toward a sort of photosynthesis with the filter feeding cilia ... maybe even edge more toward tool use. I think that has been a direction I have been going anyway, what with the twelve arms and throwing rocks and grabbing Dirigids and whatnot.))
((With the apparently rampant predation on my species, I should probably go for stronger defenses. I'm thinking maybe some sort of repellent gas emissions or dust or something. And yeah, I think tool use is a good way for your Ixid to go. Want the dirigids to share their toughened epidermis with you? It'll only cost me one point and will probably be pretty helpful, especially to help protect the Ixid with the thin bones.

@Inithis: can I leave an evolution and then pick it back up later? Or will I have to start from scratch?))

Dirigid-Ixid surface bros: help the Ixid scout those shallow cave things.
Other Dirigids: Fly higher. You're more radiation resistant than most predators, so fly close to the roof. Stop dying so much. Also, do some primitive predator analysis. What's killing you the most? How are they killing you?
Finish evolving size.

Aragrark is pleased with how his town is shaping up. A mighty fine town hall if he ever saw one.
He realizes that it'll take quite a bit of work to make the rest of the town. Argrark goes over to the silly town and asks the people if they can rewind his clockwork. If they say something like, "Why in the heck would we do that?!", Argrark tells them that he'll promise not to knock down any more of their wall if they do.
Argrark is very sincere though, he doesn't mean this as a threat. He thinks it's a reasonable exchange of services.

Yo dawgs, it's cool. I don't mind being a little weaker than everyone else. Not a problem. Really, don't worry about it.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
For real though ATHATH, I appreciate your concern, but I'll be good.

Fine abilities indeed! The blue octopus has three points in elemental magicks and three points in strength, while the purple octopus has three speed points and three in stat magicks.

Do these octopi possess any items? A void sword, an eldritch staff? Also, how does the inventory system for this game work? The classic 'limited slots hammerspace' type thing, or something more creative?
