Anyways, the chasm might be a bit larger than that (opens into cliff, but not open to surface), but there are a hundred z-levels between my starting position and the ground. When I maxed my site to include the whole region, I lagged even while paused. I think I can narrow down the site though, especially since there's no trees or vegetation. It might be even better if I can exclude the cliff altogether. Can you imagine the caravan ramp for 100 z-levels? Perhaps I might build my trade depot down there instead.</STRONG>

such ahuge ramp would be epic

sounds like a good goal for a succesion game

As for time for both Dominions and Dwarf Fortress, lets just say I've gone part-time at work until January. Also, an IT job for approx. 3 people is not very demanding. I'm hoping we start hiring then...

I'll look for an evil canyon, but my next world seed is half a day off, yet. I may still look through the last couple of days and my birthday seed (two named mountains- a 100 z-level chasm - 10 to 11 pages of chasm dwellers!)</STRONG>

100...z-level...chasm

also, yeah evil canyons are hard to find

only evil brooks are makred as evil, and river /major rivers which are usually the best source for canyons are not

does anyone happen to have an evil desert, spezificaly with black sand ?

it would make a great setting for the continuation of my first community fortress, (which died waaay too soon)

edit: nevermind I found something suitable

no sand desert, juste wasteland, but worth a try nevertheless

there is a video on the map archieve that5 shows a booze explosion next to a horse

Akroma's log, last entry

What [part can't be read, soiled with blood] this ?
A monster appeared, big as 5 dwarves, and strong as 100.
We had no chance...no chance...

Its bronze skin reflected no light, as it was blackened from the water of this trice cursed lake. Fully aware that BurnedToast, Torak and our few wardogs would never be able to stop this thing, all 7 of us went out to face this beast.
We never stood a chance.
The bolts Torak shot simply glanced of his metal body, the scratches BurnedToast's ax was making healed themselfes... with just one swing it struck down Imp, throwing him off the ledge, directly into the lake, where his corpse is now feeding the undead.
It shattered bones, skulls, and spirits, untill nothing remained.
I was knocked unconcious, and surely the beast thought I was dead, leaving me in a lake of blood, my own, my friends, the dogs...

Hours later I woke up, next to the corpses of what was once a fortress to surpass the mountainhomes...

[the next few paragraphes can't be read due to blood] no longer go on..

I am going home...

the adventurer was right...

[off story: WTF IS THIS ?! A MEGA BEAST IN MY FIRST SPRING?!?! THIS BETTER BE A BUG]

Akroma's log 3rd slate 1051

The digging of the main rooms is complete, after a full month of hard mining.
It's not very full of luxury, eventhough Imp managed to build a truly masterful chair, which now resides in our new dining room.
It is tiny and dirty, and not worthy the mountain homes.

But we will improve !
We have years to come, and we will fill this fortress with luxury beyond all measures.
I began sketching up the planes for the first great stairway, that will go to the very top of the mountain. I do not know what i will build up there yet, but it must be great.
Something that acts like a signal fire, somethign that tells the mountainhomes "we did it"

we haven't started the plannings for the second great stairway yet, the one that goes to the ground, because we still have to bridge over a cliff, but that will surely be done soon.
We will use the geography of this place for our advantage, using a natural wall of yet to serve as the walls that will host our main gates, a construct of bridges, that will hold of every undead that dares to climb our stairway.
No landwalking fish will stop us.

Praise the miners, we struck bituminous coal.

Together with the marble we sighted near from our base, we will be able to get steel production running, even without magma, how they used to do it in the mountainhomes.
Lets just hope that a migrant or 2 know how to use a furnace.

Looks like the elephants, Armoks most misunderstood creatures are on our side.
With ease they trampled the dead even deader.
An army of righteousness.

Praise the elephants !

Akroma's log 7th Granite 1051

Most parts of the working area has been dug out, and the storage area is dug out as well.
Tyr has started to set up a farm, and Madkadol is assisting him.
Imp, our mason, has been released from mining duty, since he has more important stuff to do. We need tables to eat from and chairs to sit on, if we want to be a proper mountainhome !
BurnedToast started with the construction of some beds, a sight to behold, for he never ever build a bed before. His strong, ax swinging arms are not used to exact movement...
Well, I wouldn't be able to sleep calmy anyway...

I can still hear it.
The song of the dead. Their warcry.
Ever since they emerged, they have been singing for 7 days and 7 nights.
If I don't die by their theeth, I wills urely soon succumb the dominating madness of this place, trapped into a cacophany of voices.

How can something so dead be so..so full of hate ?
What legendary event led to their creation ?

As soon as things are sorted, I will request some cage traps to be build.
I shall catch and study them. Surely a closer look at them can help me understand..

Akroma's log 3rd Granite 1051

After recovering from the shock, we made some basic scetches on how to start.

Nothing fancy for the start, just some farming area, and basic lodgings.
The soil in this area is scarce, so we will have to bridge a huge cliff to get more workingspace soon.
On a happy note, we have struck magnetite.
for now we have not enough wood to smelt it, but we can make very expensive trade goods from the raw magnetite, making it very valuable for us.
BurnedToast was made a woodcutter, seinding him against the undead army below us would be suicide.
I am still unsure what to do with our hunter. He spotted some living animals, however he was too terryfied to climb down the cliff and hunt them. Not only because of the skeletal plague, the are elephants
And quite a few of them !

Lets just hope that the Elephants will hold the fish at bay.

I am still making the scetches for the huge staiways for the traders, but I am busy with digging out the basics, so this will have to wait.

(sorry for the slow updates, but the game runs exceptionaly slow the cliffs are 50 Z-levels high, and together with the elephants, there are around 40 creatures out to kill me) also

Akroma's log 1st granite 1051

What a sight !

A mountain, high as Armoks toes. We arrived here after nearly a week of travel, me and my band of drunks that were "impressed" by my courage.
A quick glance at the terrain brought both good news and bad news.

Firstly, we are still alive. Which is something I no longer take as granted, after I woke up and saw what the darkness of the night hid away from me.

A cliff that drops deeper than I can look. Whatever drops down there dies, no question asked.

Furthermore, the "army of the undead" that the adventurer discribed was nowhere to be seen.
So we decided to take a tour around the cliffs to search this "unholy menace"
The tour down the cliff proved itself to be absolutely dangerous, partially impossible. We will need huge stairways if we ever want a caravan of traders to enter our new home.
Also, Torak, a hunter addressed me, he was unable to locate even a single huntable animal.
Not even the slightest trace of a mountain goat !
Hopefully we will be able to find at least something soon, or he will have nothing to do.
When we finaly arrived at the bottom of the cliff, my nose was burned by a smell, the made my beard become white. What a devilish trick was that ?
We soon located the source of the smell.

Oh the horror..the horror

A lake so black, you couldn't determine if it was water, or obsidian. The surface was perfectly calm, smooth as the walls of the mountainhomes. It was like looking into a nightmare, it chilled me to my bones. A thick mist covered the ground, I was barely able to distinguish the lake from the ground, covered by black sand, just as smooth as the lake.
It was Tyr who woke them.

He accidently stepped into this ..."water"
It dyed his socks black.
Black as this obsidian lake.

Circular waves extended from the place his food was tainted, disappearing into the thick mist.
Then it happened.
The calmness was broken. The whole lack was throwing fierce bubbles, it was boiling, it was raging.

And it emerged.

What emerged you ask ?

A creature so ridiculous, I broke into a laughter.
It was the skeleton of a fish, that crawled out of the water. It looked so pathetic, trying to move what was left of his fins. Almost helpless.
Almost.
But for such a pathetic creature, it was unbelievable fast, it charged at me.
A fish !
Charged at me.
And not only one, dozens over dozens of skeletal fish emerged from the boiling obsidian.
We turned to run, as we discoverd that right behind us, was the skeleton of a four legged creature, I am not sure which, as they are hard to identify without flesh. All I knew his massive skull was equipped with theeth, white, lond and deadly.
Oh what created this horrible...horrible..THING ?!
Was it, magic, cursed occult rituals, diseased science ?

It..it was remarkably abtract. No flesh, no sinew but it walked, it sang
It roared a tune, the strangest sound I have ever heared, and will ever hear.

oh the horror...
