bear in mind that there are a lot of major arteries that run through arms and legs, and that bullets do more than pierce vital organs; the impact can cause shockwaves through the body that can really mess you up (or something), or send you into shock.

DF Suggestions / Re: Actually throwing enemies in combat
« on: May 26, 2013, 12:48:00 pm »
being able to direct the... direction.. of your throws is planned, i think, and if you're big enough or strong enough you can throw an enemy quite a distance as-is, just on a random vector.  my first thought, however, is: suplexes.  if you're strong enough to actually do it (conditioned to ridiculous levels, a vampire, or some other uber-strong supernatural being), then being able to execute flamboyant or otherwise flashy throws could serve to intimidate nearby enemies.  if you're fighting a dude and he picks up your 100 kilo musclebound friend by the neck and throws him into a nearby river or powerbombs him through a live jaguar or something then, frankly, fuck fighting that guy, particularly if you're unarmed or not a part of a well-disciplined group.  might get you pumped-up (HULKAMANIA!) if you do something that shows your complete superiority to your opponent whilst giving them a penalty to their rolls due to their fighting spirit being somewhat dampened by their comrades' broken bodies flying into trees and shit.

yes i want to role-play kane.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Vampire cults!
« on: February 18, 2012, 08:56:36 am »
so i just unmasked a wicious wampire (who was also an architect!), thanks to his identifying bling.  but now the names of everyone else in the central keep of this town have switched to '[profession] Cultist', who are trying to destroy me and my loyal band of warriors.  there are a few normal people who are fighting beside me, but there are a hell of a lot of cult fanatics too.  this is freaking awesome! if the entire town splits in half and starts a civil war i'll inform you and wet my pants from the epic.  also, what's with the weird titles people in the top floors of keeps have ('sacred surprise' is my current one, i've had 'sacred marble' and 'holy cluster')? they seem to be regular folks but slightly evangelical and very stuck-up, are they high priests or something?

EDIT:
seems that it was confined to just that one keep, unfortunately.  i got the hell out of dodge ASAP so the loft and the basement might still be crawling with the buggers.  here's a screenshot of it all starting:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

i wonder: if we recruit companions then become a vampire, then retire and go to fort mode... can we form our own cults?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What's goin' on here?

someone should bee-rate them for this scandalous behaviour.  i mean, can you beelieve the low standards to which our society operates? it's beereft of all decency and respect.  it just really bugs me that there's such a sting in the tail for these poor adventurers, walking in and getting told to 'buzz off' due to this ludicrous display.  this is the beeginning of the end for civilisation, i tell you.

edit: also, i'd like to add that the 'reverse mormon night monster' sounds like one kinky-as-hell position.

just had another ridiculous escape on a different adventurer, this time from a gaggle (that's the correct collective noun, i can guarantee it) of bogeymen lurking in the wilderness.  it had just gotten dark, and a group of them decided to ambush me.  one of them punched me rather severely, sending me into 'imminent giving into pain and horrific goring death mode', which generally spells the end for any adventurer caught out in the boogeymen gaggles.

then i went into a martial trance.

many upper bodies were separated from lower bodies that day.

the real kicker is: the final bogeyman got bisected in the exact same turn as when i finally passed out.  i saw time stop and thought i was done for, then realised the final one was dead.  didn't even know that could happen :/

so, here's the scene: my (demigod) adventurer sets off to kill a 'mate of the twilight troll' that lives in some stupid cave somewhere.  easy peasy, i think, as i killed another one of its brood without any fuss whatsoever.

i go to the cave, pop my head 'round the door and see myself a big scary troll bitch.  we do battle.  i smack it in the skull with my scimitar (how did that not kill it?), but, shock horror, it bites me in the leg and latches on.  i slice its hand off in an attack of opportunity, but this doesn't even phase it, rather alarmingly.  it shakes me around, which hits a nerve and removes my freaking ability to walk.

'fuck, best plan what weapon to specialise in once this chump bleeds out', i think to myself.  instead of running, i decide to stand, fight and die an honourable death.  on the floor, i sink my pearly whites into this troll thing's leg, yet this only annoys it slightly.  i'm backed into a corner with nowhere else to go, so i attempt a final gambit.  a normal/normal aimed head attack, with the faintest chance of hitting, let alone killing in a single hit.

'the severed part flies off in an arc'. :D

after that page of melodrama, share with us your best near-death saves.  the only criteria is that they must be awesome!

Creative Projects / Re: The Zombocalypse Is Coming

snip

i agree with what yann is saying here; the lack of goals is primarily why i play adventure mode in DF a lot more than fortress - it requires a lot less intellectual involvement and planning compared to the task of creating a working settlement, and i find it rather difficult to motivate myself for the latter task without a real reason to do so.  and i never pay attention to any self-imposed goals i set (because i'm a big n00b :<), so every fortress just fizzles out after i get the basics like farming and brewing working.  there actually IS an overarching objective in LCS, so every fascist and GODDAMN CONSERVATIVE SCUMBAG FROM HELL A BAD PLACE that i dispose of feels like a 'step', rather than an unfocused flail as in the fortress of dwarves.  i am quite happy with just the general goal of 'liberalise everyone' that is present in LCS, but i wanted to step in to defend yann's idea: it's not a commercial step, it's just something to keep people playing and help them discover some of the really cool shit present in bay 12's games.

This would be PERFECT for modding!

I mean, I always wanted a tank...

Urist Mcnoble cancels Being A Noble: Interrupted By Tank.

Imagine the goblins making tanks though.  they could be pulled by trolls! :D

One could also make L4D jokes, as below:

Louis McUrist: "Run or shoot? RUN OR SHOOT?!"

Bill the Golden SpearThrusts of Rape has entered a martial trance!

Bill the Golden SpearThrusts of Rape: "Both!"

I've heard of a kiss goodbye, but that's just ridiculous.

I just sliced a wolf open, making their guts spew out.  The wolf gave into pain, then I bit into its entrails, shook it about by its intestines, and ripped its guts clean out.  Holy fucking crap.

Also, how are people doing all of this 'headlock' stuff I'm hearing about? I assume you grab the head then punch, but it doesn't seem to give any accuracy boosts for me.  Does it need a certain skill level?

Curses / Re: lcs what is religion for?
« on: July 04, 2010, 08:27:51 am »
Being able to found a liberal 'religion', to rally followers to would be interesting.  I'm thinking the LCS equivalent of the Church of Fonzie, or some kind of religion parodying other religions, to be 'hip', and attract college students or other impresionable individuals.  Pastafarianism go.

I can't wait for that new justice system. Getting captured and having your fingers cut off sounds accurate for 14th century punishment.
And then cutting off the whole arm of the person that cut your fingers  :-X

nonono, train up your surgery skill on.. people.. and once you're legendary, cut off your entire hand and plonk a big iron fist on there.  Then use aimed attacks to knock the fucker's block off.
