for the games that have no servers, I have 2 computers capable of running srcds at least. So for completely empty games I will manage servers/lobbies for them.

Aaahhhhhh, curse you for making me choose between 3! This was hard! :P

I have a tiny suggestion though - if this whole thing proves successful, why not put the winners of each round in hibernation mode for a week? This way, any entry that people are obviously interested in but didn't make it has a chance in next round?

Yeah great idea.

This thread is a cool idea, but I do not see empires on the poll. (which I was playing last night which was fun)

Plus I recommend tremulous a action/rts game similar to natural selection except that all of the players can build the buildings for the base.

To be honest I thought that 10 choices was a good idea for a first time, so if more people want to see empires I will add it.

1+ to eternal silence. I will do a poll tomorrow, and based on the top 3 we can make dates for games and the creation of a possible pool of games that could be used to organise past the first time.

Also, it seems like disproportionate effort to resurrect a multiplayer game for a single day.  Might be better to have pool of games we know people want to play and then go back to them whenever people feel like it.

That may be a good idea, although at the moment to find out what games people want to play and we will organise a game and if neccessary I will set up a dedicated server.

when i first saw the tittle of this thread i assumed we would be playing games that have empty official servers we can still do that though did nintendo shut off the wii servers to or just the ds ones if they left the wii servers we could play some brawl or some monster hunter

I think we should probably do that if they still have official servers up but I don't think we should be restricted to just games with official servers or even master servers still up. Could always use hamatchi or a similar tool and create a LAN match of some form.

Having looked through some of the more popular games on this thread (or at least by my observation), I could probably run servers for A new Zero, Lord of the Rings battle for middle earth 2 (I don't have a copy yet and we would also need to be using hamatchi or something) and perhaps giants citizen kabuto. I think tribes 2 still has a few servers so we could just organise a match around them.

Please mention more. Once we have a few more suggestions I will put together a poll.

Well it does do the games earlier in the series than RA2 and Tiberium Sun.

Many very good multiplayer games become empty wastelands of deserted servers or simply nothing at all. I think it is sad that many games are there without anybody to play them. Many of these multiplayer games such as Unreal Tournament 3, The Ship and other such games appear to be good examples of dead multiplayer games that were actually good. However, I have found myself in the possession of 2 computers capable of running servers for such games, having proved themselves capable of running game server software such as SRCDS. Therefore I thought it may be a good idea to attempt to change that temporarily.

The idea is that people suggest a multiplayer game that deserves to be played but isn't, and if enough people want to play it I will run the dedicated server software for it (if needed) and we can organize a reasonable size lobby of people from Bay12 to play it as to revive the game even if it is just for a few hours.

I am not sure if this is explained adequately but I do believe it gets across the general idea. If their are any major questions I will edit them into here as at this point it is just an idea to see if people are interested.

Please let me know if there are any games that you would appreciate playing and of any questions you have about this.

EDIT: first time appears to have been a success!

Other Games / Re: Your Hidden Steam Games, The Category of Shame
« on: August 15, 2014, 06:06:31 pm »
I don't have a hidden list so much as I catergorise my steam collection from ratings from 1 - 10, so these are the ones up to and including 5:

DOTA 2: Quickly discovered in spite of liking RTS games I hated MOBAs and the "community" associated with them. (3/10)

Chess the gathering : A free game key I got off the developers website and played it for about 10 minutes and came to the conclusion it was far from playable (3/10)

Angry Birds Space : Bought it because it was about $0.40 and I reckoned I could make a profit from the cards (and did). It plays badly with keyboard and mouse (4/10)

Darwinia : I found the story annoying and it was too simplistic and I lost attention after about an hour and just uninstalled it (4/10)

Day One Garry's Incident : Got it for free from the game giveaway (thanks sappho) and played it for a joke for about an hour before the novelty wore off, still hilarious though (4/10)

Half Life 2: Episode one : I found it highly disappointing and boring (althought Half life 2, episode 2 and lost coast sit at 8/10). (4/10)

Warhammer Dawn of War II : 2 reasons. Firstly, Games for windows live. Secondly, it changed Dawn of War I too much (I couldn't get enough METAL BAWKSES). (4/10)

Woodle Tree adventures : Got it for free on indiegala and played it for about 2 hours until the awful camera and half assed design put me off for good. (4/10)

Counter Strike Source: I disliked it because I didn't have the reflexes neccessary and I got into it after 18 months of CS:GO. (5/10)

Paranautical Activity: It seemed to dislike my computer and once I got chance to play It felt undercooked and after about an hour I went back to DOOM 2 and UT 2004. (5/10)

Red Faction Armageddon : Colossal Dissappointment after Guerilla and It glitched out on the first mission. (5/10)

Rocketbirds Hardboiled Chicken : It felt like a first year's project, but was still non the less somewhat enjoyable. (5/10)

Skydrift : A fairly thin game reminiscent of mario kart with none of the good controls IMO. (5/10)

Superfrog HD: Almost uncontrollable and plays like sonic. I hate sonic. (5/10)

Trine 2: Not sure why it is here, but I am not willing to find out either. (5/10)

Uplink : Another Introversion Software game. None of the others were as good as DEFCON before Prison Architect IMO. (5/10)

Well there is my highly controversial games that may as well be hidden in my steam library since I seldom play them but don't.
