DF General Discussion / Re: What you want (Related to DF)
« on: July 21, 2014, 07:56:01 am »
We probably do, haha, : )
And wow, a USB themed with DF and has all the Packages?
Awesome.
That face on the USB (That a face?)
I honestly wish it was squarer to better represent Dwarf Fortress with the classic Dwarf Face, if you know what I mean?
Haha would be sooo much cooler then but even now, that is pretty cool.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think there is a policy.
Haha, I'm thinking I might try and get that trench coat, by getting it custom made?
Jeeze, now I think about it, it sounds expensive to get done.

Some very interesting replies. : )

I'd really like a 3D printed Planepacked. That would be crazy awesome. Or any mega-artifact for that matter.
Or maybe just a chair that menaces with spikes of cloth, adorned with hanging rings of Dingo Soap, for the wtf factor.
3D printed artifacts. Now that sounds awesome. Imagine printing off a miniature mountain with the Dwarven doors leading into the mountain, on it.

I've always wanted to modify my computer to "menace with spikes of old RAM."
I'm currently making my Linux laptop fit the theme of DF. Although I play DF on the windows desktop generally cause the laptop is fairly cheap.

I would like to live long enough to see a relatively finished version of DF. I mean a version not composed of basically TODO signs. I mean the scope of the project is huge, and admirable, but if you measure the progress against the years that pass by, it induces a dose of pessimism. Also, I am no longer young, so to say.
No particularly sure what you mean by this?

So I was just talking to my mate who I randomly said to. You know what I want? I want a leather trench coat with that dwarf from my desktop background on it. And well, he made an image of it.
No i keep gazing at it when bored and realized how much I want this.

Anyway, what about you guys? Ever had something awesome to represent DF or wanted something?

DF General Discussion / Re: How did you find DF?

Ah yes... The amount of references to this all over the Internet. Naturally, I had to wonder how a game referenced so much on the Internet, was never heard of by any my mates, all gamers. So, with my, "hipster like attitude" as they call it, I looked into it right away. Been sucked in to the procedural generated humour, ever since.

Well, thanks for you help everyone : ) Im well on my way to becoming a Linux user, haha.
I got it in the end.
I had to install some libraries for 32bit, as I was running on 64. That was a task in itself, now I know how to unlock programs, and set admin rights, and install packages...
Now I just have a problem where it disables sound for Dwarf Fortress, which is no prob, but I remember seeing a thread to fix that yesterday so I might fix it later, but.. : )
Thanks for your help everyone.. And to think when I first started, I had no idea how to run a terminal (It took 2 seconds to find but still :P )

Thanks for that reply, I guess that sort of explains the beginnings of permissions.
Unfortunately, it did change anything at all.

Actually yes, there is a change... Instead of
./df: 6: ./df: ./libs/Dwarf_Fortress: Permission denied
I get
./df: 6: ./df: ./libs/Dwarf_Fortress: not found

Yeah I'm looking, but being new, and unsure of exactly what I'm looking for it's a little hard, : P
But, I always get there in the end, haha. Should hopefully find a solution soon. Thanks for your help though.

Do I maybe need to set the permission to all folders and sub folders?
And how would I go about that?

Similar thing happens to CataclysmDDA (Another ASCII roguelike)
./cataclysm-launcher: 3: ./cataclysm-launcher: .cataclysm: not found

Now I get...
./df: 6: ./df: ./libs/Dwarf_Fortress: Permission denied

So I think I am getting it right, I definitely am in the right directory and I type ./df
It comes up with Permission Denied...
bash: ./df: Permission denied

DF General Discussion / Running on Linux (So New Here)
« on: February 17, 2014, 05:11:27 am »
So, I have just installed Linux Mint for the first time ever installing Linux on a separate laptop. I thought it would be a nice change. Honestly, I generally have crazy ideas to do this sort of thing. At once, I downloaded Dwarf Fortress and CataclysmDDA linux builds and put them on the desktop.
Now, I have no idea how to even run them...  :(
I'm so new to Linux and would love to learn it, and I figured here would be the best place to ask...
So, if anyone could please help me out here, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't normally use mods for games though? I dunno why, I've just never been into them. However, might look for a couple for Dwarf Fortress to spice up the game a bit.
And I've got Cataclysm DDA for Zombie Survival. : )
And yep, am going to make a lot of Cages, bout 30 or so for that Long Hallway Entrance. But my Carpenter is on break at the moment. Should assign someone to temporarily be Carpenter. And I got a High Master in Masonry during the first wave of immigrants... : ) : ) : )
