Eh, It's a bit hard to control the volume in SoundCenSe since the icon covers the controls...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: DF v0.43.03+ Worldgen Cookbook Thread!
« on: January 18, 2017, 08:30:27 am »
Hi! I'm looking for a generally !!FUN!! embark.
What I mean by that is:
-a volcano
-terrifying biome
-contact with dwarves, humans, goblins, and (preferably) elves.
-enough materials to make steel (trees/coke, flux, iron)
Bonus points if:
-it's close to a Dark Fortress or some Dark Pits so I'm under constant siege by gobbos
-has a tower neighbor
-is reanimating

Thanks in advance!

I wish the base-game embark finder had an option like that, I'm in a game now where everything is great (for once) but I get no migrants and no traders, I think the goblins have taken over the only other dwarven place on the map...

FYI: I just tried the program out. It runs ok for me, but unfortunately I can't really use it. I have a 3200x1800 screen resolution with scaling on Windows 10, and the program's UI doesn't work with it.

Scaling isn't even supported correctly for all Windows applications. You're better off just changing the text-size to get larger windows/buttons.
one more reason not to go for anything past Win7 :D

Scaling isn't supported for Windows 7 either, it has never been supported by Microsoft.

DF General Discussion / Re: PeridexisErrant's DF Starter Pack
« on: January 01, 2017, 06:59:13 am »
If I have to choose, I'll be going with 64bit + TwbT rather than 32bit + Therapist - I'd still make at least one 32bit release, but I don't want to maintain two versions of the pack.  However, DFHack has a number of very nice options that (while not identical) can largely replace Therapist.  Enabling autolabor or manipulator are good places to start.

Go all out on 64 bit ASAP I'd say!
And the sooner you release a new version the sooner Toady will release a new version making everything incompatible again :)

That about win x64 as we had dfhack updated?
This is unaffected since it just reads the gamelog.txt file.

DF General Discussion / Re: DF Europe World
« on: November 02, 2016, 07:09:32 am »
Ok, new map:

No deserts in Europe (at least Western Europe), mountains in Scotland, separated land bridges between Spain/Africa and Denmark/Sweden, also opened up the Bosphorus.

And, by popular request, volcanoes, approximately in their real-life locations.
There are nine of them, gathered from a Wikipedia list:
In Iceland we have Snæfellsjökull, Öræfajökull, Katla, Hekla, and Eyjafjallajökull. Italy has Vesuvius, Stromboli, Vulcano, and Etna.
Which, by the way, I'm surprised no one requested Vesuvius or Etna, since they're pretty famous volcanoes; but they're in now.

I'll put this up on DFFD, although I think my drainage map is still messed up - I can make out the Danube, but the other big rivers are kind of all over the place.
Also, fair warning, this map generates very slowly. I'm not sure how/if I could improve that. I think I'll make medium- and small-sized versions.

Looks nice!

I'm not sure this helps at all but here is a Map of Forrest coverage over Europe.

You could try UristMaps http://demo.uristmaps.org/

Zoom into a level of detail you want and start making screenshots, then put them all together in GIMP or Paint.Net, then print.

Mod Releases / Re: Modest Mod v0.42.06-1
« on: October 17, 2016, 03:40:00 pm »
The leather changes have been removed,

Is this where there is only one type of leather? If so, It's the only feature I really wanted from this mod...
I assume, though, that you're referring to the Accelerated Module, which merges all leather types into one generic leather type. If so, then yes, I removed the module because it was a lot of work to update it to the new version and, as mentioned, I mostly made this for myself. The official modest mod still supports Accelerated. There's a large warning to avoid Accelerated on the first page, so you probably shouldn't be using it anyways. Masterwork has this feature working well. To be honest, I don't understand the appeal of Accelerated: much of the FPS gain is just turning off temperature and reducing how many items are created. It has a separate goal of reducing the variety of stone, leather, bone, and more, but that has nothing to do with making the game faster.

Might I suggest my Wanderer patch? It might be worth noting that DF Wanderer adds in classes of leather, so that dragon leather (dragonscale) is much stronger than chicken leather, unlike vanilla (where they differ in name only) or Accelerated (where there's no difference at all). This is why I like Wanderer. Taming large or rare beasts to set up a leather industry ought to be rewarding, but Accelerated (and, I assume, Masterwork) remove the only real reward the game offers: seeing "roc leather armour" rather than just "leather armour". Wanderer at least scales the quality of the leather output as a reward, so you'll get better leather.
Yes it's the Accelerated part I'm after.

I'm not at all concerned for FPS gains, I just don't want to have to deal with loads of different leather, and it also makes my life easier, just make "leather armor" instead of "alpaca leather armor" or something like that.

Is there a way to hide soundsense while it is running ?

Minimize the window?

More like moving it to tray or making it work in background

DF Announcements / Re: Dwarf Fortress 0.43.05 Released

Not sure how much RAM you have, but that shouldn't be a concern if you don't do things differently. That said, I think it should start using hard disk as swap space (should you have that enabled) for DF rather than offload active OS processes, though if you have non-OS processes those might get stored to HDD before that. And remember, DF cannot use all of your CPU, so you should always be able to do something.

(You can also always download 32-bit one, of course.)
True, I suppose.
I don't yet have the ram to make full use of 64 bit currently, anyway, and if i recall correctly the game does a pretty good job at cleaning up unneeded ramspace as info is unloaded.

It's your OS:s job to make sure it has enough RAM to work. I suspect you're low on RAM anyway if you even have this concern.

DF General Discussion / Re: PeridexisErrant's DF Starter Pack
« on: August 31, 2016, 03:00:22 am »
The Starter Pack has updated to 0.43.03-r05!
As usual, you can get it here.

This release focusses on content updates and bugfixes - Armok Vision is prettier than ever from the new first-person mode; SoundCenSe is like Soundsense but shinier; and there are many smaller things (just read the changelog).

Work is ongoing on the update to 64-bit DF 43.05, but expected to take a while longer (nobody knows exactly how long).  Until then, remember that the 32bit version - this one! - is better than it's ever been before  :D

Strike the Earth!

0.43.03-r05
 - added SoundCenSe
 - added Lee's Color Scheme v2
 - fixed keybinding for gui/settings-manager
 - re-enabled TwbT by default (in DFHack tab)
 - misc minor tweaks (eg no blank line in tooltips)
 - added option to hide DFHack console window
 - updated Armok Vision
 - updated Mayday and Spacefox graphics

If you want to say thanks, check out Toady's Patreon, or even mine!  ;D

Are you distributing .NET4, GTK-Sharp and Microsoft Visual C++ 2013  also? Or is it included in a readme somewhere?
SoundCense didn't work without them and a reboot last time I tried.
